After making the trip down to the Mountain Dew Bloomfield Speedway to fill in for normal track announcer Tony Paris, i made the trip back late saturday night so i could get up and get ready to go to the Knoxville Raceway for the Inaugural Knoxville Shootout on Sunday.
The rules were pretty simple the top 16 in passing points would make the a-main with the highest guy in passing points would draw a number 1-4 to see how many rows would be inverted and 2 b-mains would be run in each class with the top 4 from each also qualifying.
The first feature of the night was the SportMod 20 lap feature. Jeff Jones from Council Bluffs would lead the first 16 laps but the only race caution would come out on lap 16 for debris in turn 2. On the restart, Jones would have to deal with Scott Davis and Davis would make the pass and go on and take the win. Jones would finish 2nd, Tyler Droste was 3rd, Bill Wears in 4th and Jim Gillenwater in 5th.
In the Hobby Stock 15 lap feature it was Matt Webb leading lap 1 before Kevin Fee would take the lead on lap 2. Fee would hold on to the lead until he was chase down by Andy Boeckman a few laps later. Boeckman would take the win in the feature that would go green-to-checkered with Fee in 2nd. Bill Bonnett, Webb, Robby Marsh and Jason Fusselman rounded out the top 5.
Next up was the Stock Car 20 lap feature and it was a very exciting race with side by side battling for the lead in the entire feature that would go green-to-checkered. Damon Murty would end up leading the first 3 laps before Shay Curtin would lead on lap 4. Jeff Mueller would enter the battle and take the lead on lap 5 and hold on to it until Keith Knop would grab the lead by a slim margin on lap 11. Mueller would come back and grab the lead back on lap 12 but would be side-by-side with Knop the rest of the race. Mueller took the win, Knop was 2nd, Kyle Vanover was 3rd, Curtin was 4th and Damon Murty was 5th.
Final feature of the night was the Modifieds 25 lap feature and Pole Sitter Dylan Smith would lead from wire-to-wire but the real show was put on by "Toddzilla" Todd Shute but Shute ran out of time and laps and was forced to settle for 2nd. Mike VanGenderen would fall back but make his way back up to 3rd, Josh Most was 4th and Mark Elliott rounded out the top 5.
Racing came to an end at 9:05pm. Next Racing event at Knoxville Raceway will be Saturday Night when the World Of Outlaws return back to town for the final tune up before the Knoxville Nationals.
Next Up for me is tentatively the JR Motorsports Hawkeye Dirt Tour Race at the Hamilton County Speedway in Webster City and then its back to the Southern Iowa Speedway in Oskaloosa for the 1st Community Credit Union Hobby Stock Special.
