Oskaloosa, Iowa (May 30th, 2018) - Another week, another night of racing on the monster half mile, the Musco Lighting Southern Iowa Speedway presented by KBOE 104.9 FM. Thirty-Seven young race fans went home with a brand new bicycle to ride on Kids Night presented by PellaMotors.com.
Fifty-Five cars checked in to tame the Monster Half Mile including 10 Sport Compacts, 13 Stock Cars, 12 Sport Mods and 19 Hobby Stocks. Brandon Housley (Sport Compacts), Jason McDaniel (Sport Mods), Eric Stanton (Hobby Stocks) and Cayden Carter (Stock Cars) took the feature wins. First feature of the night was the Parker Tree Service Hobby Stock 15 lap feature. Christian Huffman started on the pole and took advantage by grabbing the top spot early but Points Leader Dustin Griffiths worked his way from sixth starting spot to the lead on lap five. Griffiths lead was short as Eric Stanton, had worked his way by Huffman and began to battle for the lead. Stanton took the lead away on lap seven. Stanton cruised to the win, even though a pair of cautions, first for Jesse Williams slowing in turn one and then for Rick Van Dusseldorp in turn two, tried to deny Stanton the win. Derek Kirkland grabbed the second place finish ahead of Clint Nelson. Huffman and Craig Brown finished fourth and fifth.
Jason McDaniel took advantage of Jeff Frana opting to go to the tail in the Carter Manufacturing / Van's Racing Sport Mods 15 lap feature. McDaniel grabbed lead early and followed by Taylor Elliott from Webster City. McDaniel and Elliott ran first and second until a caution on lap seven for Coleton Pace in turn two bunched the field up. Nobody had anything for McDaniel, driver nicknamed "Mighty Mouse", as McDaniel cruised on to take the win ahead of "Speedy Bray" Brayton Carter, Curtis VanDerWal, Logan Anderson and Elliott.
Cody Phillips led the first lap of the Finish Line Auto Sales Sport Compacts 10 lap main event but the caution came out for debris in trun two. On the restart, Phillips had to contend with Ryan Havel. Havel led lap two but Brandon Housley worked his way from fifth to grab the race lead on lap three. Housley pulled away and went on to take his fourth consecutive win in as many weeks in Osky. Phillips settled for second, Kyle Boyd was third, Barry Taft was fourth and Austin Kaplan was fifth.
Final feature of the night was the Midstate Machine Stock Cars 18 lap feature event. Derrick Agee wrestled the lead away early and pulled away meanwhile behind him the battle was heating up between several drivers for second on back. Agee looked to heading to an easy win when the caution came out on lap 12 for Mike Harward blowing up in turn one. Agee had Scott Dickey, Mike Hughes, Cayden Carter and Danny Trasher behind him on the restart was able to hold them until he slid up left the door open and Dickey took advantage. Dickey led the remaining laps to come across the line in first but disqualified in post-race tech inspection, that handed the win over to the Orange Crush Machine driven by the "Gasman" Cayden Carter. Agee, Hughes and Nathan Wood rounded out the top five.
Fire Truck rides from Eddyville Fire Department and the Nickel & Candy Toss will move to another because their was 37 bikes given away, so keep your eyes on the Southern Iowa Speedway Facebook for what night that will be on.

Fifty-Eight cars signed in to race at the Southern Iowa Speedway including 11 Sport Compacts, 13 Stock Cars, 13 Sport Mods and 21 Hobby Stocks. Two New Faces made a trip to victory lane, Mike Hughes (Stock Cars) and Cayden Carter (Sport Mods) meanwhile Brandon Housley (Sport Compacts) repeats and Dustin Griffiths makes it two for three in the Hobby Stocks.
First feature of the night was the Finish Line Auto Sales of Shellburg Sport Compacts feature event. Cody Phillips jumped out to the race lead from his second row starting spot passing Jason Breuklander and Nathan Moody. Phillips cruised away until a caution came out on lap nine forcing a green-white-checkered finish. Phillips had to contend with Brandon Housley and it was Housley making the right move on the last lap to take the win for the second week in a row. Phillips came across in second ahead of Kyle Boyd, Breuklander and Brandon Allison.
The Midstate Machine Stock Cars lived up to the "Class Too Tough To Tame" as they battled for the top five spots the entire distance. Derrick Agee and Mike Hughes started on the front row and they were among that battle for the race lead through out the 16 lapper. Hughes managed to lead all the laps to take his first win and become the third different feature winner. Agee fell back to third but took back second when Cayden Carter pulled off. Dustin Griffiths worked his way from eighth to finish third, tenth place starter Nathan Wood finished fourth and Jason See came home in fifth.
Taylor Elliott and Logan Anderson led the field to the green in the 15 lap Carter's Maufacturing / Van's Racing Sport Mods feature event but it was neither of them taking the early lead, it was Blaine Webster. Webster tried to pull away but Cayden Carter, driving brother Brayton's car worked his way to second on lap three. Webster slipped up and left the door open for Carter on lap six, Carter took advantage and took the lead away. Carter appeared heading to the easy win until the caution came out on lap 13 for Trent Brink in turn two. Carter had to contend with Curtis VanDerWal and Webster on the restart but he held them off to take the win and VanDerWal finish 2nd. With Carter taking the win it ended the 10 race weekly racing winning streak that VanDerWal had dating back to June 2017. Webster, Anderson and Jason Hall rounded out the top five.
Final feature of the night was the Parker Tree Service Hobby Stocks feature. Dustin Griffiths grabbed the early race lead but a caution came out after lap two was in the books when Anthony Goldsberry came to a stop in turn four. Griffiths pulled away on the restart and was never challenged until a late race caution for Darin Dezwarte on backstretch forced a green-white-checkered. Griffiths determined to not lose as he got a great restart and went on to take the easy win, his second at SIS in the Hobby Stocks. Brock Hopwood was second, Craig Brown was third, 14th place starter Chanse Hollatz was fourth and Mike Kincaid was fifth.

Oskaloosa, Iowa (May 16th, 2018) - Race fans and drivers donated money to the purse in memory of their loved ones that they have lost on Wednesday Night. Dean Sylvester Family, Yaw’s Auto Salvage, Friends & Family of the Late SIS Hall of Famer Aaron Brown #54, Huffman Fabrication, Scharky Frame, Ervin Edel, Chandler Family, Bradshaw Family and Sammons Family among some donating money on Memorial Night sponsored by Budweiser Doll Distributing at the Musco Lighting Southern Iowa Speedway presented by KBOE 104.9 FM.
Next Wednesday Night, Fans and drivers will cast their votes for the 2018 Southern Iowa Speedway Hall of Fame Inductees. Copeland Auto Body & SS Mobile Blasting are the sponsors next week. Dolan, Phillips, Murty, Luellen, Stanton and Morrill Take Dale DeFrance Memorial Wins
Thursday Night it was back to the Marshalltown Speedway for the
Inaugural Dale DeFrance Memorial Race with extra money and contingencies
on the line in all classes. Dale was a pioneer of racing at
Marshalltown and the surrounding area back in the day, even loading up
the back of his truck taking neighbor kids back in the day to the race
track but unfortunately we lost him May 22nd, 2017.
Dale was called "The Leader" by former Marshalltown Speedway Announcer Denny Grabenbauer because of his Both a leader on the track and off the track, it was an accurate name for him. Over the years I have known the DeFrance Family and they are one of most positive and polite family you will ever meet on and off the track. Dale was very proud of his kids and grand kids doing something they loved just as much as he did, win or lose he was more than willing to help make the car better every night. Dale will be missed and I know after the races on Thursday, he was proud of all the hard work put on by the family to make a race in his memory strong.
When your name is on a memorial race at Marshalltown, you know what you mean to the racing community as they have the Cliff Chambers Memorial, Dale DeFrance Memorial, Steve Priske Memorial (Miller Lite 50) & Larry Wollam Memorial (Season Championship Night). May be gone but will never be forgotten Mr. D.
It was a beautiful night for racing filled with 150 cars signed in to the pits including 19 Late Models, 38 Modifieds, 18 Stock Cars, 17 Mod Lites, 26 Hobby Stocks and 31 Sport Mods.
First feature of the night was the 15 laps Mod Lite feature event. Mike Morrill driving Erin Turner's car grabbed the top spot early, despite battles from Jason Masengarb, the caution came out for Larry Sorenson in turn two. Morrill had Masengarb and "Huggie Bear" Joel Huggins behind him on the restart, out of those three it was Huggins getting the best restart as he grabbed the lead on lap five. Huggins however lost the lead back to Morrill on lap seven and then pulled off a lap later with mechanical issues. Morrill led the remaining laps and went on to take the win in a borrowed car. Masengarb came across in second, Randy Bryan finished third, Doug Byers gets his best place finish of fourth and Trace Ayers from Salina, Kansas finished fifth.
David Rieks wrestled the lead away early in the IMCA Hobby Stocks 15 lap feature event from Leah Wroten. Rieks led until the caution came out for Kenzie Ritter spinning in turn two. Rieks had Wroten and John Watson behind him but it was Eric Stanton that made a challenge for the lead which resulted in Stanton taking the lead away on lap seven. Stanton went on to take the win despite the late race charge by 12th place starter Shannon Anderson. Anderson finished second ahead of Eric Knutson, Watson and Wroten.
The IMCA Sport Mods 20 lap feature was next, it was filled with two, three and sometimes four wide racing the entire distance. Jared Van Deest started outside front row and took advantage by grabbing the race lead but Austin Luellen unleashed the rage and took the top spot away on lap five. Luellen pulled away and went on to take the easy win. Van Deest was second, Ethan Braaksma was third, Chase Rudolf was fourth and Beatrice, Nebraska's Lance Borgman was fifth.
Damon Murty redrew the pole for the 20 lap IMCA Stock Cars feature event and grabbed the race lead. The only thing slowing down Murty was a pair of cautions on lap four, first for debris in turn three and then on the restart when second place runner Jeff Mueller spun in turn two collecting Paul Shepard, Tom Cannon, Darin Toot and Todd Inman. Murty was only challenged by Jeff Wollam the final 16 laps and managed to cruise on to the win. Wollam got his best finish of the season coming home second. Reitzler, Donavon Smith and Steve Meyer rounded out the top five.
The IMCA Modifieds 25 laps feature event was led from start to finish by Terry Phillips from Springfield, Missouri driving a car for Jordan Grabouski. Phillips was slowed by heavy lap traffic late but was not to be denied the win. Johnny Scott from Las Cruces, New Mexico finished second with Tyler Droste in third. Another Las Cruces, New Mexico driver Stormy Scott finish fourth with "Toddzilla" Todd Shute in fifth.
Final feature of the night was the 44 lap IMCA Late Models main event. Todd Cooney and Darrel DeFrance led the field to the green flag with Cooney grabbing the race lead on lap one. Cooney's lead was short lived when "Flyin" Ryan Dolan took the top spot away on lap two. Dolan began to pull away until the caution came out on lap eight for Jenna Johnson spinning in turn four. Dolan got a great restart and pulled away again until lap traffic late. Lap traffic allowed Kyle Hinrichs to get up as close as the back bumper of Dolan but it was Dolan going on to take the win with a $1,500 top prize. Hinrichs, Cooney, Jeremiah Hurst an DeFrance rounded out the top five.
No Racing at Marshalltown on Friday Night because the Iowa High School Rodeo gets it turn to take over the Central Iowa Fairgrounds this weekend. Racing returns next Friday for Military Night sponsored by UAW Local 893. Hot Laps at 6:55pm and Racing at 7:30pm.
