Mills Grabs Frostbuster Win at Marshalltown
By Jeremy Fox
Marshalltown,
Iowa (April 5th, 2013) – After being off since September the
Marshalltown Speedway returned with the Annual Frostbuster with a little
over one hundred-ninety cars signed in to do battle from 10 different
states and 1 Canadian province.
All night we would see some
great three and four wide racing on a very wide and smooth racing
surface. During the feautres however they were race five wide at times.
Luke
Wanninger would jump to the early race in the IMCA Modifieds 30 lap
feature and appeared to be pulling away but just before the halfway
point lap traffic would get in the way that would slow
him down. This would allow Jeremy Mills chase Wanninger down and make
some contact. Jay Noteboom was coming though as he chased down Wanninger
and Mills.
Wanninger and Mills would make slight contact as they
were racing in lap traffic and shortly after the only race caution came
out on lap twenty four when Zach Rawlins and Jon Snyder would get
together in turn 4. Officials quickly noticed that Wanninger’s left rear
tire was flat and that forced him to the pits. Mills would inherit the
lead with 6 laps to go with Jay Noteboom and Racer Hulin right behind.
Mills
would hold off Noteboom to take the win, his 2nd frostbuster win in as
many nights and 1st win at Marshalltown. Noteboom started ninth would
finish second. Todd Shute started 18th would finish third. Hunter
Marriott finished fourth and Rookie Racer Hulin was fifth.
After
having one car spin out in turn 2, the IMCA Stock Car Feature would go
20 laps green-to-checkered. Todd
Reitzler would lead lap number one but it was Steve Meyer taking the
lead away on lap two and not look back. Meyer took the win, John Heinz
would take second away from Reitzler with a few laps to go. Damon Murty
was fourth and Michael Jaennette was fifth.
IMCA Sport Mods have
the same similar story happen this time a couple of cars would get
together in turn two on the first lap forcing a restart. When the
feature got going it was Ty Luellen grabbing the lead and about the only
thing that slowed him down was the lap traffic which allowed Clint
Luellen to chase him down. Ty Luellen would hold on to take the win,
Clint Luellen would settle for second. Tracy Wassenberg finish third,
Austin Kaplan would finish fourth after the race something appear to
break in the rear end. Geoff Olson was fifth.
Jamie Songer would
lead the first lap in the IMCA Hobby Stock feature but it would be Nick
Murty getting by a lap 2. Murty appeared to be pulling
away but lap traffic would slow him down and Devin Smith would be able
to chase him down and then the only race caution came out on lap 13 when
Tyler Pickett and Andrew Burg would get together. Murty however would
hold off Smith’s Challenges the remaining two laps to take the win.
Murty would also admit in victory lane that he had no breaks the last 2
laps. Smith, Donavon Nunnikhoven, Eric Stanton and Aaron Rudolph would
round out the field.
The Frostbuster Weekend heads to the Boone Speedway on Saturday and then to the Benton County Speedway in Vinton on Sunday.
The
racing season will continue next Friday at the Marshalltown Speedway as
it will be the Ryan Ashton Racing Season Opener and we will have all 4
classes back plus IMCA Sport Compacts and MADCRA Mod Lites. Grandstands
