Just as speedway staff was getting the Karl Auto Group of Marshalltown Speedway ready for a Friday night of racing action on KIX101.1, KFJB 1230 AM-93.9 FM and Iowa Seamless Gutters Night at the Races, Mother Nature decided to dump the most rain the race track had received all day long.

Wehrle, Bistline, VanWyk, Fisher and Rick Win July 2nd Races at Vinton

Sunday Night I decided I would make my first official visit to the Benton County Speedway "The Bullring" this season, as I was at the track a couple of weeks ago but it rained out. It was a great night of racing, yeah it dried out but that happens when its almost ninety degrees outside, hard to keep moisture in the racing surface. Corey Dripps and the crew did their best and staying ahead of the problem and I was impressed, I will see if I can manage to make any other Sunday trips to the Bullring.

A total of ninety-seven cars including 21 Shottenkirk Auto Group Sprint Invaders checked in to tame the quarter mile. The racing program moved right along and I was home after 11pm but it was great show and I had never seen the Sprint Cars on the Benton County Speedway so it was kind of cool to see. I also heard that World of Outlaw's Announcer Johnny Gibson was in the house and he was impressed with how well the show was ran last night.

First feature of the night was the Vermedahl Trucking IMCA Hobby Stocks 15 lap feature event, a caution came out for debris in turn four before a lap was placed in the books. Tucker Richardson grabbed the race lead and held off Michael Kimm until a caution came out on lap six when Danny Foster spun. Richardson continued to lead meanwhile Joren Fisher worked his way by Kimm on the restart and set his sights on trying to take the lead. Fisher managed to take the lead away from Richardson on lap 12 and go on to take the feature win. Matt Brown came home second, Richardson fell back to third, Justin Wacha was fourth and Corey VanDerWilt was fifth.

Jake Anderson led the first three laps of the iHeart Radio IMCA Sport Compacts 12 lap feature event before tenth place starter Lukas Rick worked his way through the field. Rick took the lead away on lap four or so he thought, when the caution came out on lap seven forColton Stewart off the top of turn two, Rick was docked two spots for jumping so Anderson was credited with the race lead those laps. Rick got a great restart and took the lead for good. Rick took the win ahead of Anderson, Spencer Roggentien, Korey Lana and Steven Schmitz.

Before a single lap completed in the Houdek Auto Center IMCA Sport Mods 15 lap feature, the caution came out when Kyle Olson drove in deep in to turn three resulting several cars spinning. Curt Hilmer grabbed the race lead on the restart and lead until the caution came out again on lap four. Dylan VanWyk took the race lead on the restart and despite four more cautions, VanWyk was not to be denied as he went on to take the feature win. Joe Docekal worked his way from tenth to finish second. Jenae Gustin came home third. Ben Chapman came across the line in fourth but was disqualified so that moved his brother-in-law Brady Hilmer to fourth and Sam Wieben to fifth.

In the Christie Door Company IMCA Stock Cars 15 lap feature, the caution came out before a single lap was scored when Riley Hanson spun in turn two. Shaun Bistline jumped out to the race lead and never looked back going on take the feature win. Leah Wroten tried to make a charge and challenge Bistline but came home in second. John Oliver Jr came home third, Brett Vanous was fourth and Kyle Parizek was fifth.

Final feature of the night was the Stottenkirk Auto Group Sprint Invaders 25 lap feature event. Bret Tripplett  jumped out to the lead early and look good out front. Cody Wehrle was able to grab the runner up spot away from Chris Martin on lap two meanwhile Scott Bogucki had his nose wing knocked askew in the early going. The caution came out on lap four for Luke Verardi and Ryan Bunton in turns three and four. It would come out again on the restart when Devin Wignall and Ryan Jamison in turn one. Tripplett remained strong out front and just as he entered lap traffic, the red flag came out on lap 11 when Dustin Clark stopped with a fire on the backstretch. The restart saw Tripplett followed by Wehrle, Chris Martin, Riley Goodno and Bogucki. Wehrle challenged Tripplett when the green came back out but would not get by until lap 15 when Tripplett went over the top of turn two. Wehrle was able to lead the final ten laps and go on to take the win. Bogucki made a late bid but came up short and settled for second. Chris Martin, Goodno and Paul Nienhiser rounde out the top five. Bunton, Bogucki and Clark won heat races, Bogucki also took the win in the Shake-up Dash.

Next week at the Benton County Speedway is Christmas in July + Power Wheel Races. IMCA Modifieds, IMCA Stock Cars, IMCA Sport Mods, IMCA Hobby Stocks, IMCA Sport Compacts and INEX Legends. Pits Open at 3:30p, Grandstands Open at 4:30p, Hot Laps at 5:30p, Racing to Follow.

Sprint Invaders next event is at the Dubuque Fairgrounds Speedway in Dubuque for the Wednesday Dubuque County Fair Races.

Carter, Reynolds, Rust, Bennett and Zemo Take Wins on Minute Man Printing Night

All day long people wondered if the early morning rain would prevent the Karl Auto Group of Marshalltown Speedway to get racing action in on Minute Man Printing Night. Track crew was prepared and was able to get to work on getting the racing surface nice and wide.  There was great racing all night long with some drivers having to hang on to capture victories.

A total of  one hundred-nineteen cars checked in on Friday night to tame the high banked quarter mile on the Central Iowa Fairgrounds in five IMCA Classes. First green flag flew at 7:30p and the final checkered flag came out at 10:15p. Brayton Carter and Joel Rust pick up another win meanwhile Solomon Bennett, Kaden Reynolds and Mike Zemo pick up first win in Motown.

First feature of the night was the Rugged Radios IMCA Sport Mods 20 lap feature event. Matt Avila led the first lap before Logan Anderson was able to take the top spot away on lap two. The caution came out shortly after though when Logan Anderson spun in turn two, giving the lead back to Avila. Avila fended off Brayton Carter and Travis Peterson off on the restart. The caution came on lap five when Avila spun in turn two. That gave the lead over to Carter and he fought off Jenae Gustin and Kyle Olson on the restart. The caution came out again on lap eight for Jackson Harpole in turn one and then on lap nine for Tom Lathrop in turn one. Carter continued to lead the way and only be slowed one more time for the final caution on lap sixteen. Carter went on to take his third win in Motown, first during a weekly show. Tony Olson grabbed up second, Kyle Olson was third, Anderson came back to finish fourth and Gustin was in fifth.

Dustin Kroening led the opening lap of the Tire Demon by Love Tap IMCA Modifieds 20 lap feature event. Joel Rust worked his way from fifth to race lead getting by Kroening on lap two. Rust was trailed by Todd Shute but remain tough. The cautions came out on lap nine when Creston Williams spun in turn two. Rust held off Shute and Dylan Thornton on the restart only to see the caution come out again on lap 11 when Kroening and Maguire DeJong got hooked together on the back stretch. Rust got a great restart and pulled away until lap traffic got heavy allowing Shute and Thornton to reel him back down. Rust went on to take the feature win, his second of the season in Motown. Shute, Thornton, Ronn Lauritzen and tenth place starter Tripp Gaylord rounded out the top five.

Before a single lap was scored in the Drury Automotive and Truck Repair IMCA Stock Cars 20 lap feature event, the caution came out when David Brandies spins in turn two and Keegan Wells has his rear end break in turn two. Kaden Reynolds was able to grab the top spot early when then the race finally got started and pulled away. The caution came out again on lap five when Ian Huff spun in turn two. Reynolds once again got a great restart as the battles behind him heated up. Another caution on lap eight for Cole Czarneski, Huff and Kylie Rawlins in turn two. Reynolds held off ninth place starter Troy Jerovetz and eleventh place starterNathan Ballard and looked to be heading to the win but the caution came out again on lap 19 when Dallon Murty, driving a different car, spun out in turn two while running third. Reynolds held off Jerovetz and Ballard on the restart to capture his first win in Motown this season. Jerovetz was second, Ballard in third, tenth place starter Austin Brands in fourth and eighteenth place starter Michael Jaennette.
