It was Larry Wollam Season Championship at the Marshalltown Speedway. A night were we honor one of the late great promoters and car owner in Larry Wollam and tonight it would be a question of would we race or would mother nature try to win, the good news is we won but because of the questionable weather we scratched the out of the car driver introductions and would have an open track practice after the night was over.
The first feature of the night would be the O'Reilly Auto Parts Mod Lites for 20 laps. Josh May would take the lead and look to be cruising on to the win. On lap 19, Tim Hennigar would take the lead from May and go on to his 4th in a row and 6th of the season. May would finish 2nd and take the track championship, Andy Hennigar would finish 3rd, Mike Morrill would finish 4th and finish 2nd in the points and Dusty Masolini came home in 5th.
Toby K's Hideaway IMCA Hobby Stocks were up next for their 18 lap feature and it was Kevin Fee taking the early lead but Michael Murphy would take the top spot away on lap 5. Fee would get by Murphy on lap 11 to take the lead for good and go on to the win in the green-to-checkered feature. The win would be Fee's 5th of the year at Marshalltown and wouldn't be enough as he would end up 2nd in points. Michael Murphy would finish 2nd in the feature and clinich the track championship. Eric Knutson, Josh Saunders and Eugene Nicklas rounded out the top 5 in the feature.
Big 8 Tyre Center IMCA Sport Mods would see Scott Davis lead the feature from start to finish despite a couple of races just before the halfway point. The win would be Davis's 2nd at Marshalltown and would give him the track championship also. Cayden Carter would finish 2nd in the feature and points, Tyler Droste was 3rd in the feature and points, Jared Van Deest was 4th and Carter Van Den Berg was 5th.
The "Class Too Tough To Tame" Mikes Hard Lemonade IMCA Stock Cars were up next and before 1 lap could be completed the first caution came out. When the race got going it was Tracy Gienger taking the lead but it wasn't easy it would be a 3 car battle Trent Murphy, Gienger and Damon Murty. Murty would make the pass on Gienger on lap 2 and the battle continue to heat up between the 3. A few more cautions would come out and the Murphy, Gienger and Murty continue to fight for the lead. Murty would end up taking the win, 3rd of the year. Trent Murphy would finish 2nd giving him the track championship, Tracy Gienger was 3rd, John Heinz was 4th and Jeff Wollam was 5th.
The final feature of the night was the Meskwaki Bingo Casino Hotel IMCA Modifieds would see 4 time defending track champion Jimmy Gustin take the lead and not look back despite a race caution just past the halfway. Gustin would pick up his 2nd at Marshalltown this year and finish 2nd in points. Adam Larson would finish 2nd, Luke Wanninger was 3rd, Ronn Lauritzen was 4th and Jon Snyder was 5th. Snyder would end up with the track championship.
Racing will resume in 3 weeks at Marshalltown when we come back with the 5th Annual Toby K's Hideaway Havoc on the High Banks on September 23rd and 24th. Gates Open at 4:30p, Hot Laps at 6:30p and Racing 7p both nights.
