Rust, Pippert, Droste, Whalen and Coffman Win at Benton County Speedway

Vinton, Iowa (May 1st, 2013) –Rainy weather wasn't going to spoil the plans of the Benton County Speedway in Vinton and the night produced some great racing action all night long. There was some great 3 and 4 wide racing along with some awesome finishes.

Vinton, Iowa (May 1st, 2013) –Rainy weather wasn't going to spoil the plans of the Benton County Speedway in Vinton and the night produced some great racing action all night long. There was some great 3 and 4 wide racing along with some awesome finishes.
After an early race caution for Dakota Sellers going off the backstretch that forced a straight up restart in the IMCA Sport Mod feature. Mike McDonald grabbed the early race lead but then the caution came out on lap 3 for Casey Heil off the backstretch. On the restart the caution waved again for Creston Williams, Danny Dvorak, Jim Buhlmann, Brady Graham and Curt Hilmer in turn 3. Kyle Olson got by McDonald on the restart but that was short lived as Joel Rust took the top spot on lap 6 before the caution waved for Brian Anderson in turn 4. Rust remained out front but on lap 7, McDonald would have his car shut off in turn 4 and Ryan Maitland would have no where to go and get into McDonald before Maitland would go for a ride. Rust would lead the remaining laps to take the win over Nick Roberts, John Schaefer, Kyle Olson and Dave Schulze
Curtis Roster lead the first 3 laps before the caution waved in the IMCA Stock Car feature for Trent Jeanes in turn 4. On the restart it was Damon Murty grabbing the lead away and it appeared Murty was going to git the win but after a caution for Rick Kriegel spinning out on the backstretch. Murty had to deal with Scott Pippert, Pippert made the move and grabbed the lead away on lap 12. Pippert held off Murty to take his 1st career IMCA Stock Car feature win. Murty, Norman Chesmore, Bob Ahrendsen and Bob Daniels rounded out the top 5.
In the IMCA Modifieds feature before a single lap was completed the caution waved when Ronn Lauritzen, Jerry Dedrick and Shane Burbridge got together in turn 4. Tony Olson grabbed the race lead when the race finally got started and he held on to that until Troy Cordes took the top spot away on lap 7. Shortly after the yellow came out when Mike Burbridge and JD Auringer got together in turn 4, Burbridge was sent pit side and Auringer was able to continue. On the restart, Richie Gustin had his night end as his driveshaft fell off coming out of turn 4. Cordes remained in command and pull away and until Modified Rookie Tyler Droste worked his way up through the field. Droste caught up to Cordes with 2 laps to go and dived to the inside and made the pass on Cordes for the lead. Droste lead the final 2 laps to take his first career IMCA Modified win with Troy Cordes in 2nd. Scott Hogan, Joe Docekal and Jerry Luloff was 3rd through 5th.
AJ Whitten grabbed the early lead in the IMCA Sport Compacts feature before Merv Chandler took the lead on lap 3. Chandler's lead would be short lived as he spun out on the backstretch forcing the yellow to wave handing the lead over Bill Whalen Jr. Whalen's lead was short lived though as Nathan Chandler slipped by on lap 5. A lap later the race was halted when the machine of Jeremy Lerch rolled in turn 2. Chandler continue to lead until 2 laps to go, Chandler would pull his machine into the infield as his motor blew up and a small fire occur under the hood. Bill Whalen Jr. was there again, took the lead and the win. Tyler Whalen was second, Travis Losenicky was third, Merv Chandler worked his way back up for fourth and AJ Whitten was fifth.
Final feature of the night was the IMCA Hobby Stocks feature. Jacob Keiser lead the first 3 laps before Andy Coffman grabbed the lead away. Coffman went on to take the win over Chris Lulofff, Kyle Parizek, Benji Irvine and Andrew Burg.
