By Jeremy Fox
Oskaloosa, Iowa (May 25th, 2016)
- For the first time this season, the Southern Iowa Speedway was able
to get two consecutive nights in as mother nature cooperated for Bill
and Ray's Truck Repair & Wrecker Service. Extra money was add to the
purse in all the classes and a Kid's Candy Dash. 56 cars signed in to
compete on Wednesday night.
Feature winners included Ricky
Thornton Jr (IMCA Modifieds), Cayden Carter (IMCA Stock Cars), Dustin
Griffiths (IMCA Hobby Stocks), Brett Lowry (IMCA SportMods) and Jake
Benischek (IMCA Sport Compacts).
First feature of the night was
the ten lap IMCA Sport Compacts feature. John Whalen wrestled the lead
from Lincoln Schrock on lap one. Whalen continued to lead until lap four
when Shane Evans grabbed the top spot. Evans time out front was short
lived as he would experience troubles in turn one, that handed the lead
over Jake Benischek. Benischek went on to take his second win of the
season in Osky. Bill Whalen got by John Whalen for second. John Gill
came home fourth and Lukas Yoder was fifth.
Colton Livezey led
the opening lap in the 16 lap IMCA SportMods feature event but Brett
Lowry worked his way on the outside and took the top spot away on lap
two. Lowry and Livezey battled it out until the caution came out on lap
six for Logan Anderson going on a spin cycle in turn two. Lowry and the
field saw the caution come out on lap nine when Curtis VanDerWal spun
exiting turn four and collecting Austin Paul, both would continue. Lowry
was not going to be denied the win though as he went on to take his
first win of the season at Osky. Last Week's Winner Colton Livezey
finished second, Jason McDaniel was third, Logan Anderson was fourth and
Carter VanDenBerg was fifth.
Nathan Wood started outside row
two in the 18 lap Budweiser IMCA Stock Cars feature event but by lap one
he was in the top spot. Shortly after the completion of lap one, the
caution came out when Todd Reitzler, Daniel Hilsabeck and Mike Brown got
together in turn two. Wood continued to lead until Cayden Carter worked
his way through the field to take the top sot on lap four. Carter now
leading with Wood, Mike Hughes and Todd Inman battling for second
through fourth before the caution came out on lap seven for Keith Kuder
in turn three. Carter went on to take his fourth consecutive win of the
season at Osky, only night he has not won this season was Frostbuster
Night, a non-track point night. Hughes, Inman, Reitzler and Louis Lynch
rounded out the top five.
Travis Bunnell and Bobby Greene
started the 15 lap IMCA Hobby Stocks feature event on the front row and
by the end of lap one, Bunnell was the leader. Bunnell pulled away from
the field but the caution came out on lap five for a wheel. Bunnell
now had to contend with August Bach and Brad Stephens but Dustin
Griffiths made it a three car battle behind Bunnell. Griffiths would
grab the lead away from Bunnell and go on to take his third consecutive
win at Osky. Bunnell came home a close second ahead of Bill Bonnett,
Bach and Brad Stephens.
Final feature of the night was the IMCA
Modifieds 20 lap feature event. Dennis LaVeine grabbed the lead early
with Andrew Schroeder running second but Zack Vanderbeek and Ricky
Thornton Jr was working their way through the field. Vanderbeek grabbed
the lead way just before a caution on lap seven for Casey Skyberg in
turn three. On the restart, Vanderbeek saw Thornton sneak by and grab
the top spot. Thornton went on to take the win ahead of Vanderbeek, Todd
Shute, Cayden Carter and Colt Mather.
