Friday Night I went to the Marshalltown Speedway for a night at the races but mother nature had other plans as the second of three Modified heats was on the track the rain came and washed the night away. Saturday I went with the family to the Iowa State Fair so that meant no racing for me and then on Sunday I headed to the Benton County Speedway in Vinton for their Weekly Points Night.
Curt Hilmer took two of five feature events by winning the BCS Micro Mods and IMCA Northern SportMods meanwhile, Matt Brown took the IMCA Hobby Stocks. Damon Murty won the IMCA Stock Cars and Ronn Lauritzen took the Modifieds.
First feature was the 12 lap BCS Micro Mods feature event and it was Curt Hilmer and Kaden Reynolds leading the field to the green. Hilmer wrestled the lead away meanwhile Reynolds fade back. Hilmer look to be taking the win comfortablely but the caution came out on lap ten for Reynolds in turn two. Hilmer held off Scott Beatty and Don Erger the remaining laps to take the win. Beatty, Erger, Matt Post and Cole McNeal rounded out the top five.
Curt Hilmer started inside row two in the 16 lap IMCA Northern SportMods feature but by the end of lap one, Hilmer found himself right where he left off after the Micro Mods feature and that was in position one. Hilmer saw the caution come out on lap five for Gage Neal and Tony Olson getting together in turn four. Hilmer saw the caution come out three more times in the next five laps, lap six for Jared Van Deest, Ben Chapman and Kyle Olson in turn three then on lap seven for AJ Fulton in turn three and the final time on lap ten for Scott Meyers in turn one. Hilmer was not to be fazed despite have to hold off Danny Dvorak, Tony Olson, Matt Petrzelka and Van Deest. Hilmer took the win with Van Deest coming back up to finish a strong second, Dvorak was third, Tony Olson was fourth and Petrzelka was fifth.
After a No start call in the 15 lap IMCA Hobby Stocks feature, Jacob Floyd grabbed the top spot but getting ready to complete lap three, the caution came out when Floyd spun in turn four. That handed the lead over to Matt Brown with Andrew Torkelson in second. Brown saw Brian Happel get by Torkelson for second and they began to battle of the lead. Brown and the field saw the caution come out for Scott Siems go off the top side of turn four. Brown held off Happel to take the win. Justin Wacha, Brett Vanous amd Torkelson rounded out the top five.
Kevin Rose grabbed the early lead in the IMCA Stock Cars 18 lap feature event until Curtis Roster took the spot away on lap eight. Roster's lead was short lived as Damon Murty worked his way through and grabbed the top spot away on lap nine. Murty led the remaining laps to go on and take the 300th IMCA Stock Car Feature event held at the Benton County Speedway. Scott Pippert was second, Norman Chesmore was third, Roster was fourth and Jared Daggett was fifth.
Final feature of the night was the 20 lap IMCA Modifieds feature and Brandon Maitland wrestled the lead away from Tommy Belmer on the start and by the end of lap four, the caution came out of Belmer in turn four. Maitland continued to lead but the caution came out again on lap ten for Matt Fulton in turn three. Maitland looked to be heading to the win but the caution came out two more times on lap 15, first for Fulton again in turn two and then on the restart for Patrick Flannagan off the back stretch. Maitland knew there was five laps to hold off the field but on lap 18, Ronn Lauritzen got to second and grabbed the lead away on lap 19 from Maitland. Lauritzen beat Maitland back to the line for the win, Scott Hogan finished third, Jason Snyder was fourth and Kaleb Bentley was fifth.
Racing action finished right around 8:30pm leaving only Two nights remaining at the Benton County Speedway including an appearance by the IMCA Late Models. Sunday Night will be Kids Carnival Night plus the IMCA Late Model Sunday Series, Gates Open at 4pm, Track Packing/Hot Laps begins at 5:50pm, Racing to Follow. Then BCS takes two weeks off and return for the Salute to Soldiers Night Season Championships on September 18th.
