Housley, Agee, Anderson, Griffiths and Sutter Take Wins on Mahaska Kids Night

Oskaloosa, Iowa (June 27th, 2018) - Racing finally came back to the Musco Lighting Southern Iowa Speedway presented by KBOE 104.9 FM for the first time in four weeks. Mahaska Bottling was the nights sponsor meanwhile the kids got involved with car rides after hot laps then a Candy and Nickel Toss at intermission.

Thanks to Trent Orwig, East Market Grocery, Wood Racing, Iowa Sportsman Series, Dustin Griffiths, Travis Bunnell, Ryan Humphry and Travis Musgrove for donating the candy. Money for the nickel toss was donating by Josh Woods, Hopwood Racing, Travis Bunnell, Billy Cain Racing, Josh Gordon, Leighton State Bank, The Perfect Piece, Osky Mini Warehouses, Iowa Sportsman Series and Dustin Griffiths.

Sixty-Seven cars checked in on Wednesday Night including 10 Sport Compacts, 12 Stock Cars, 15 Sport Mods, 19 Hobby Stocks and 11 Iowa Sportsman Series. Brandon Housley (Sport Compacts), Derrick Agee (Stock Cars), Logan Anderson (Sport Mods), Dustin Griffiths (Hobby Stocks) and Tyler Sutter (Iowa Sportsman Series) all took the feature wins.

First feature of the night was the Finish Line Auto Sales 10 lap Sport Compacts feature. Trent Orwig started outside the front row and took advantage of grabbing the top spot early. Orwig soon experienced issues in turn three ending his night and giving the lead over to Bill Whalen Jr on the restart. Barry Taft restarted third but found himself in the top spot on lap two. Taft led until Brandon Housley worked his way from tenth starting spot up to the lead on lap nine. Housley went on to win fifth feature win in a row in Oskaloosa ahead of Taft, Kyle Boyd, Whalen and Billy Cain.

Derrick Agee wrestled the lead early away from Michael Peterson in the Midstate Machine Stock Cars 18 lap feature. Agee and the field saw the yellow come out on lap five for Dustin Griffiths experiencing issues and came to a stop. On the restart, Scott Dickey took over the top spot from Agee but Agee did not go away as he reclaimed the lead on lap 12. Agee leading, Dickey and Mike Hughes battled it out for second and third behind him, they got together at one point. Agee went on to take the win with Nathan Wood grabbing the second spot. Hughes claimed third, Dickey was fourth and Donnie Pearson finished fifth.

Logan Anderson led all 15 laps in the Carter Manufacturing / Van's Racing Sport Mods feature event claiming his first win of the season at SIS. Curtis VanDerWal started seventh but came across the line in the second spot. Blaine Webster, Thomas Egenberger and Greg Cox rounded out the top five.

Before a single lap in the books in the Parker Tree Service Hobby Stocks feature, the caution came out for Rick Goldsberry spinning on the back stretch. Craig Brown grabbed the lead when the race finally did get going but Dustin Griffiths took the lead away from Brown on lap five. Griffiths, Brown and Aaron Martin began a three car battle until a caution came out on lap 12 for Mike Kincaid spinning in turn four and Travis Bunnell made contact. On the restart, Darin Dezwarte and Jared Stephens when on a spin cycle in turn four. Griffiths went on to take his third win of the season. Brown, Martin, Clint Nelson and Christian Huffman finished second through fifth.

Final feature of the night was the Iowa Sportsman Series 20 lap feature. Doug Weiss, winner of the previous three Iowa Sportsman Series Races in 2018, led the first lap. Tyler Sutter grabbed the top spot on lap two and pulled away to take the win before lapping the entire field. Weiss finished a distant second. Austin Meiners, John Watts and Josh Paddellford rounded out the top five.

Wednesday was originally scheduled as the final weekly points night however because of too many rain outs, the race committee has added two races in July. First race is on Wednesday July 11th and the Second race is on Tuesday July 17th.

Next race on Wednesday July 11th will be Crop Production Services and DeKalb Asgrow Hall of Fame Induction Night. Johnny Babb, Ed Sanger, Dave Farren, Jim and Joe Durian join the Southern Iowa Speedway Hall of Fame plus $2 Tall Boys all night long. Stock Cars will also be a $1,000 to win thanks to Francis Electric and Edel Lawn Care. Sport Mods, Hobby Stocks and Sport Compacts also on the card. Adults are just $8, Military & Veterans are $5, Kids (6-15) $3, 5 & Under Free.Hot Laps at 7pm and Racing to Follow.

The following week on Tuesday July 17th will be Middlekoop Seed Corn and Dickey Transport $5 Fan Apperciation Night at the Southern Iowa Fair and Exposition. Hot Laps at 7pm and Racing to Follow. The following night, Wednesday July 18th, the USMTS Modifieds along with the Iron Man Series for USRA Stock Cars and USRA B-Mods will racing.
