Wroten, Logue, Murty, Lauritzen and Morrill Win on Triple E Insulators Little League Night

Week off at the Hancock County Speedway meant another trip to the Marshalltown Speedway for Little League Night sponsored by Triple E Insulators. Ninety-five cars signed in to tame the high banked 1/4 mile race track. Several features came down to the final few laps to determined a winner.

Leah Wroten (Hobby Stocks), Johnathon Logue (Sport Mods), Damon Murty (Stock Cars), Ronn Lauritzen (Modifieds) and Mike Morrill (Mod Lites) all took feature wins on Friday Night.

Joel Huggins grabbed the early race lead in the Mod Lites 15 lap feature event. Huggins held off challenges from Terry Brown, Randy Bryan, Mike Morrill and Joe Glick until a caution came out on lap 11 for Bryan Compart in turn two. Huggins had Morrill and Glick right behind him on the restart with Huggins and Glick on the bottom side, Morrill on the top side it was going set to be an exciting finish. Morill grabbed the lead coming to the white flag and went on to take the feature win ahead of Glick, Huggins, Jeff Stensland and Bryan.

In the IMCA Hobby Stocks 15 lap feature event, Travis Merical led the first two laps before Gary Pfantz took the lead away on lap three. Pfantz continued to lead until the caution came out on lap six for Jacob Floyd and Scott Ellis in turn two. Pfantz and Leah Wroten battled for the race lead on the restart with Wroten able to wrestle the lead away on lap eight. Wroten went on to take the win ahead of Pfantz. William Klosterman finished third, Jeremiah Andrews was fourth and Floyd race back to a fifth place finish.

Up next was the IMCA Sport Mods 18 lap feature, Jason Hall took the lead early despite serveral challenges from Kyle Olson and Austin Schrage. Hall held off all challenges until Schrage made the move and grab to top spot away on lap 12. The caution came out on lap 13 for Dale VanDerWal sitting in turn one after contact with the front stretch wall. Schrage and Hall now had to battle with Johnathon Logue on the restart, Logue got by Hall on lap 14 and then Schrage on lap 16. Logue held on to the win despite a late race charge from Tyler Soppe, who finished second. Schrage, Travis Peterson and 15th place starter Jenae Gustin rounded out the top five.

Michael Peterson led the first three laps of the IMCA Stock Cars 18 lap feature by holding off Damon Murty. Just after the completion of the lap three, the caution came out for Jason Minnehan in turn four. On the restart, Murty grabbed the lead and began to pull away. Murty went on to take the win over a hard charging Justin Temeyer and 13th place starter Steve Meyer. Scott Rice was fourth and Peterson fell back to fifth.

Final feature of the night was the IMCA Modifieds 20 lap feature event. Thor Anderson led the first two laps before Racing Veteran Greg Kastli took the top spot away on lap three. Kastli led until the caution came out on lap six for Bret Ramsey in turn two. Tim Ward took the lead away on the restart but had several challenges from Joel Rust. The caution came out on lap 12 for Joe McBirnie in turn one. Ward, Rust and Ronn Lauritzen battled for the top spot with Ward hanging on to the lead until lap 16. Rust took the lead and then Lauritzen also got by Ward. Lauritzen worked the bottom side and took the lead away from Rust coming to the white flag. Lauritzen out dueled Rust to the finish line to take the win. Rust, Ward, Cody Laney and Ethan Dotson rounded out the top five.

Racing continues at Marshalltown Speedway next Friday when the IMCA Late Models return to the card for Kevin Sharp-Shooter Miller Lite 50 and Toby K's Hideaway Night. IMCA Modifieds, IMCA Stock Cars, IMCA Sport Mods, IMCA Hobby Stocks and Mod Lites are also racing. Hot Laps at 6:50, Racing at 7:30!
