Grabouski Dominates 13th Annual "Frost Maker" World Nationals in MoTown

Where to spend a Saturday Night, the answer is the Marshalltown Speedway once again for night two of the 13th Annual World Nationals. Night two did not disappointed as once again there was exciting racing all night despite temperatures in the 40s. One Hundred and Fourty Six cars checked in for night two it an event I am officially dubbing it as the "Frost Maker".

Kaden Reynolds, Cody Thompson and Damon Murty, all took the feature events in the Hobby Stocks, Sport Mods and Stock Cars respectively. Jordan Grabouski took the $10,000 top prize in the Modifieds back to Nebraska.

After heats and B-Features were completed in the Hobby Stocks, Sport Mods and Stock Cars plus last chance qualifiers in the Modifieds, it was time for the Modifieds "Final Four" Race. Taylor Musselman led the first six laps before Marcus Yarie took the top spot away on the seventh circuit. "T-Dub" Tim Ward worked his way through and took the top spot coming to the white flag. Ward held on to win, Yarie settled for second, Musselman was third and Jacob Hobcheidt ended up as the final transfer to the 50 lapper.

First feature of the night was the 20 lap IMCA Sport Mods feature event, Kyle Olson grabbed the early race lead but the caution came out just after lap one scored in the books when Friday Night's Winner Dylan Van Wyk spun in turn two. Olson held off Cody Thompson initial on the restart but Thompson refused to go away and grabbed the top spot from Olson. Thompson began to pull away only to seed the caution come out on lap eight, when Ryan King came to a stop on the exit road. Thompson got a great restart and never looked back taking the win. Kyle Olson finished second, Brandon Schmitt took third, Tony Olson was fourth and Austin Kaplan was fifth.

Eric Stanton wrestled the lead away from Miciah Hidlebaugh in the 20 lap IMCA Hobby Stocks feature event but just after lap three was scored in the books, the caution came out. The caution was for Matt Wahl and Seth Janssen getting together on the front stretch. Stanton continued to lead until lap 16 when Kaden Reynolds made the move and took the top spot away just before the final race cautions. First caution on lap 16 was for Brandon Nielsen coming to a stop in turn two with a flat right rear tire and then the initial restart was called back. On the second restart, Reynolds made the move as did Jason Fusselman meanwhile Stanton slided of the top side of turn three ending his night. Reynolds held on to take the win at Marshalltown. Fusselman, Hidlebaugh, Cody Williams and Austin Mehmen rounded out the top five.

The IMCA Stock Cars 20 lap feature event allowed them to live to the "Class Too Tough Too Tame" tag line. Wisconsin's Josh Mrockowski led the first two laps before another fellow Wisconsin driver Jeremy Christians took the top spot way briefly on lap three. Mrockowski took the lead back and held on until lap 11 when "Chelsea Charger" Damon Murty made the right move to take the top spot away. Murty looked to be heading on to the easy win despite Jordan Grabouski chasing him down but Dallon Murty spun in turn two bringing out the caution on lap 16 forcing a 4 lap shootout to the finish. Just before the green flag came back out, Grabouski headed pit side. Murty led the remaining laps to take the win. Mrockowski finished third ahead of Elijah Zevenbergen, Jeremy Christians and Todd Reitzler.

Final feature of the night was the 50 lap IMCA Modifieds World Nationals Finale but the start was called back and tried again. Jordan Grabouski flexed his muscles and fend off Richie Gustin ot take the race lead. Grabouski, Gustin and Jeff Aikey battled with Grabouski holding on to the race lead. The first caution came out on lap ten when Jacob Murray spun in turn four. A lap later on lap 11, the caution came out for Marcus Yarie and Kollin Hibdon in turn two. Grabouski continue to not be fazed but the caution came out on lap 20, this time it forced a 30 minute red flag as Jeff "Bones" Larson droved it off the top side of turn three hard and hit a cement barrier. Larson was checked out for further observations and update was posted on his Racing Facebook Page. He passed all neurological tests but could head home and it was recommeded he follow up with his doctors.

After the lengthy red flag on lap twenty, Grabouski contiune right where he left off and held off challenges from Aikey and Joel Rust. Grabouski and the field saw the final caution coming out on lap 41 when Tom Berry slid off the top side of turn two. Grabouski managed to lead all 50 laps to take the win, that came with a $10,000 prize day and Championship Title Belt. Rust, Richie Gustin, thirteenth place starter Cayden Carter and Aikey rounded out the top five. Eigteenth place starter Benji LaCrosse was sixth ahead of Brandon Beckendorf, Michael Long, twentieth place starter Kenny Schrader and nineteeth place starter Mike Mullen.

Racing was completed in just over 4 hours as the final checkered flag waived at 9:19 pm putting a wrap on 2019 racing season at the Marshalltown Speedway but keep your eyes out on the website or facebook for the 2020 racing season schedule.
