IMCA Frostbuster Series returned to action at the high banks of the Marshalltown Speedway on Friday Night after having a pair of nights off. Originally the Series was scheduled to race at the Benton County Speedway in Vinton on Wednesday night but they moved the show to Sunday and Thursday's show at Independence Motor Speedway was cancelled because of the cold temperatures.
Marshalltown Speedway sponsored by its sister track 141 Speedway and Left Turn Lounge did not disappoint as it took a while for the racing surface to produce multiple grooves. The features saw two, three, four and at least once five wide racing.
One Hundred and Ninety Four cars signed in to tame the high banks of Marshalltown and to be crown Frostbuster Feature winners. Cayden Carter and Dallon Murty repeated their Stuart Frostbuster wins by claiming victories in Motown in the Modifieds and Stock Cars. Alec Fett won the Sport Mods and Kaden Reynolds was the hobby Stocks.
First feature of the night was the 20 lap Karl Kustoms IMCA Northern Sport Mods. Before a single lap was complete scored the caution came out when Brett Vanderheiden and Brandon Tharp spun in turn two. Austin Schrage wrestled the early lead from fellow front row starter Josh Appel. Schrage and Appel was under attack by Jenae Gustin in the early going until the caution came out on lap four when Jonathan Logue spun in turn four. Schrage continued to lead and appeared to be heading on to the win until Alec Fett grabbed third away from Gustin and then second from Appel. Fett made the power move on the last lap and be Schrage to the finish line to take the win. Schrage finished a close second, Appel came home third, Gustin was fourth and Dylan VanWyk was fifth. Kyle Olson was the hard charger as he moved up 12 spots to finish in sixth.
Up next was the 20 lap feature for the IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks. Defending Track Champion Solomon Bennett led the first lap fending off Kaden Reynolds but the caution came out when Dru Kueker and Matthew McAtee got together in turn four. Reynolds got by Bennett on the restart but Bennett and Luke Ramsey was putting pressure on Reynolds. Dylan Nelson, Eric Stanton and Eric Knutson joined in the fun just before the red flag on lap 11. The red flag was for Aaron Rudolph flipping upside down on the frontstretch with Randy LaMar, Brett Vanous, Matt Olson, McAtee, Ben Newhouse and Kueker all suffering damage. Reynolds held off several challenges the final nine laps to take the Frostbuster victory. Stanton, Knutson, Aaron Martin and Dylan Nelson rounded out the top five. Knutson was hard charger moving up 13 spots.
Malone, Wisconsin's Timothy Warner led the first two laps of the IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars 20 lap feature event before the "Game Changer" Dallon Murty pounced and took the top spot away just a head of the caution on lap three. Murty fended off Warner and David Atcher on the restart and pulled away only to see a caution again on lap 15. The caution on lap 15 was for Todd Fisher and Rod Richards spinning in turn four. Murty held on to take his second IMCA Frostbuster Series win of the week. Kelly Shryock came home in the runner-up spot ahead of Damon Murty, Warner and Steve Meyer. Aaron Karcz from Pulaski, Wisconsin was hard charger after moving up 11 spots.
Final Feature of the night was the 25 lap IMCA Modifieds feature event before a single lap was scored the caution came out when Marcus Tomlinson, Cory Sauerman, Thor Anderson, Dustin Kroening and Jarrett Brown got together in turn two. Cayden Carter and Kyle Brown battled out for the race lead with Carter leading lap one and Brown leading lap two. Carter took the lead back on lap three and began to pull away. Only thing slowing Carter down was the lap traffic late in the race which allowed Kyle Brown and Cody Thompson to get within a few car lengths. Carter took his second IMCA Frostbuster win of the week ahead Kyle Brown. Thompson, Troy Cordes and Tom Berry Jr. Matt Werner was hard charger moving up 10 spots.
