Smith Family Takes Two at Boone Speedway

For the first time since the Frostbuster, I made the trip to the Boone Speedway for a night of racing action at Iowa's Action Track. It was night two of three of the IMCA STARS Mod Lites Corn Belt Clash presented by Stealth Racing. One hundred and forty eight cars checked in on Saturday night for IMCA Saturday Night Series not including 7 Cruiser cars.

The racing action was intense and exciting with a few races coming down to the final few laps to settle who was going to claim wins on this Memorial Day Weekend. Final checkered flag came out at 10:02p. Take time to remember all those that we have lost to give us the chance to do what we love and go racing.

First feature of the night was the Carquest Auto Truck Farm IMCA STARS Mod Lites for their 25 lap Cornbelt Clash feature, the initial start was waived off. Ben George was able to take the top spot when the race got going and maintain that top spot until lap eleven. On lap eleven, George nearly spun in turn four and that allowed Josh May to take over the top spot. The caution did come out 2 laps later when Alex Eischeid slowed and came to a stop in turn three. May got a great restart and started to pull away only to see a caution on lap 18 for George spinning in turn two. The final caution came out on lap 19 when Timothy Hall slowed on the back stretch. May held of Bryce Vowan and Jon Padilla on the restart and went on to take the feature win. Padilla came home second, Vowan was third, RJ Gonzales was fourth and Austin Gray was fifth.

Dustin Lynch led the first two laps of the Elmquist Towing IMCA Sport Mods 18 lap feature event before Cory Pestotnik took the top spot away on lap three. Lynch regained it again on lap four. Petotnik and Lynch battled it out with each exchanging the lead several more times in the early going. The caution came out on lap ten for Ted Gould in turn two. Lynch coninuted to lead fending off Jeremiah Reed and Cam Reimers until a caution came out on lap 16 for debris in turn three when Colby Grady lost his driveshaft. Reimers got a great restart and made the move to steal the lead away and go on to take the win. Taylor Kuehl followed suit and grabbed up second, Ryan Leeman was third, Lynch fell back to fourth. Reed came across in third but was docked two spots for transponder not in the correct location.

Up next was the D&E Outdoor Services IMCA Modifieds 20 lap feature event. Ronn Lauritzen jumped out to the race lead fending off Joel Bushore and Cory Sauerman. Just after lap one scored, the caution came out when Mark Prueser and Tyler DeBouche spun in turn three. Laurtizen got a great restart and pulled away until another caution came out on lap seven for Bushore and Prueser getting together on the back-stretch. Lauritzen got another great restart and appeared to be heading on to the win despite have Sauerman and Todd Shute trailing him the restart of they way but lap traffic became a factor. Shute was able to get by Lauritzen on lap 16 to take the feature win despite nearly making contact with Prueser when Bushore did early in the race. Shute took the feature win ahead of Lauritzen, Sauerman, Jerry Flippo and Jacob Hobscheidt.

Boone Moose Lodge 104 IMCA Stock Cars 20 lap feature saw the "Tire Punisher" Jeff Mueller grabbed the lead and pull away. Mueller was chased back down by "The Bobcat" Jonathan Logue, Devin Smith and Josh Daniels prior to the caution on lap seven for Kyle Rose and Jeff Byers Jr in turn one. Mueller looked to be heading on to the win but the bottom went away and Devin Smith was able to use the top to his advantage to take the lead away with one to go. Devin Smith went on to take the win. Mueller, Daniels, Buck Schafroth and Scott Davis rounded out the top five.

Joe Wollenhaupt led the first four laps of the Pickett Salvage IMCA Hobby Stocks 15 lap feature before Andrew Burg took the top spot away. Burg led until Wollenhaupt was able to regain the lead back on lap nine. Wollenhaupt looked to be taking the victory in the feature that went caution free but "Turbo" Mike Smith was able to make a power move on the final lap and snatch it up. Smith took the win ahead of Wollenhaupt, Burg, Matt McDonald and Eric Knutson.

Final feature of the night was the Cruisers 8 lap feature event. Sean Allen / Max Allen led the first two laps before a caution came out when Alex Albert / DeeDee Albert came to a stop in turn two. Dawson Mack / Hunter Rolfes took the race lead away on the restart and lead until lap five when they slowed down the back stretch, that allowed Jack Allen / Michael Miller to take over the race. Allen / Miller held on to take the win ahead of Brent Petersen / Javon Behle, Nick Dewitt / Brandon Powell, Todd Heckathorn / Angela Heckathorn and Mack / Rolfes.

Next Saturday will see the Capital Sign Company Two-fer Twin Topless Dirty 30s for the IMCA Modifieds and IMCA Sport Mods plus IMCA Saturday Night Series for IMCA Stock Cars, IMCA Hobby Stocks and IMCA Mod Lites. The speedway also moves to its normal summer start times. Wild Night of Racing on API Solutions Salute to Military Night

The Karl Auto Group of Marshalltown Speedway finally returned on Friday Night for some racing action, after ten days off since the Castrol FloRacing Night in America Night and being nearly a month since a Friday night race. It the racing action was hot and heavy all night long as they managed two, three, four and even five wide.

Unfortunately a few drivers had their nights in an extremely wild fashion. Curtis Masterson had his night end in the heat race as he caught fire exiting turn two and came to a stop in the infield. Chad Rickett Jr and Kaitlyn Schuring, both rolled down the front stretch in the hobby stock b feature before landing on all four wheels and catching fire under the hood. All the drivers would be okay but frustrated their night came to an end.

One hundred twenty nine cars checked in for API Solutions Salute to Military Night. API Solutions is your mechanical contractor in Marshalltown. Take time to remember all those we have lost, all those that are currently serving or have served on this Memorial Day weekend. Final checkered flag came out at 1l:10p.

First feature of the night was the Hy-Vee IMCA Sport Compacts 15 lap feature event. Kolby Sabin led from start to finish to claim his second win of the season, first track points win of the season. Terry Bickford and "Ricky Bobby" Mitchell Bunch tried to apply pressure on Sabin but neither could steal the lead away. Bickford came home in second, Bunch was third. Matt Miller finished fourth with John Gill in fifth. as "Cole Trickle" John Patterson got by "Crash Dummy" Larry Werner on the final lap to take sixth.

Before a single lap was scored in the "Wild Thing" IMCA Hobby Stocks 20 lap feature sponsored by Big 8 Tyre Center, there was a caution as Ben Newhouse came to a stop in turn one. On the restart, "Ferguson Freight Train" Sam West jumped out to the race lead fending off Seth Butler first. West had challenges from Butler, "Flyin' Fireman" Calvin Dhondt and "The Mayor" John Watson but maintain his composure out front. The caution came out on lap seven when Eric Knutson spun in turn two. West fended off Dhondt and Watson on the restart and the rest of the distance to claim the victory. Dhondt finished second, Watson was third, Bradly Graham was fourth and Luke Ramsey was fifth.

Sam Wieben took the early lead in the Rugged Radios IMCA Sport Mods 20 lap feature event, meanwhile Ryan King and Kyle Olson battled it out for second. The caution came out just after the completion of lap one when "Anniversary Man" Taylor Bass and "Too Cool" Taylor Kuehl in turn four. Wieben fended off Olson and King until Olson was able to make the pass for the lead on lap four. A lap later the caution came out when Matt Avila in turn two and Josalyn Elmquist in turn one. Olson got a great restart only to see the caution come out on lap 9 for Kenser Ellis in turn two and then again on lap 13 when Mike Rutherford spun in turn two. Olson continued to lead the away until a caution came out forcing a 2 lap shootout when Shane Palmer spun after forcing Olson off the top of the track as Olson was getting ready to lap him. Unfortunately Olson lost the lead and was scored in fourth for the following restart. Wieben took the lead back and held on to lead the final two laps to take the victory. Olson finished second, Kuehl worked her way back to finish third, Travis Peterson was fourth and Braden Richards was fifth.

After having a caution on the start of the Tire Demon by Love Tap IMCA Modifieds 20 lap feature event, it was "The Bobcat" Johnathon Logue leading lap one. Shortly after the caution came out when Jacob Hobscheidt and Bret Ramsey got together in turn four. Izac Mallicoat used the top side to his advantage on the restart taking the race lead away from Logue. Logue did not go away as he continued to pressure Mallicoat, as did Ronn Lauritzen, "Toddzilla" Todd Shute and Zack Rawlins. Mallicoat continued to lead fending off the challenges but a caution came out on lap 11 when Ramsey slowed in turn three and Shute made contact forcing the caution to come out. Joel Rust now entered the mix and it would be Rust making the right move and taking the top spot away from Mallicoat. Rust went on to take the feature win. Tripp Gaylord grabbed up second, Mallicoat fell back to third, Logue was fourth and Nagle in fifth.

Next up was the "Class Too Tough To Tame" IMCA Stock Cars 20 lap feature presented by Drury Automotive and Truck Repair. As the field was getting ready to complete lap one they managed to go five wide, but before that lap was scored Rhett Ehmen Jr spun in turn four forcing the caution to come out. When the racing got rolling it was Kylie Rawlins leading the opening lap before Michael Jaennette took the top spot away on lap two. Jaennette's lead was short lived as the "Game Changer" Dallon Murty worked his way from tenth to the race lead on lap four. Murty started to pull away as Tyler Pickett followed into second and "Chelsea Charger" Damon Murty moved into third. Damon Murty grabbed up second prior to a caution on lap eight for Payton Bellm, Jeff Byers Jr and Ehmen in turn two. Dallon Murty continued to lead until Dad Damon made the move on lap 17 to take the top spot away. The caution came out for Bellm in turn two. Dallon Murty tried a slider on Dad Damon but the old veteran still had some tricks up his sleeve as he out schooled his son by crossing over. Damon Murty went on to take the win. Austin Kaplan was able get by Dallon to take second forcing Dallon into third. Steve Meyer and Dave Atcher rounded out the top five.

Final feature of the night was the Knight Sanitation IMCA Mod Lites 25 lap feature event, the first of a 3 night swing in the IMCA STARS Mod Lites Corn Belt Clash. Brian Efkamp spun in turn one after making contact with the wall forcing the initial start to be called back. David Bailey led the first three laps before Jon Padilla was able to take over the top spot away on lap four. Padilla was trailed by Josh May but Padilla remain strong. The caution came out on lap eight for Michael Mann and Bryce Vowan in turn one, lap 12 for Bailey off the top of turn one. Padilla remained strong and held off May and Justin Kinderknecht on the restart and appeared to be heading on to the win despite lap traffic but the the caution came out on lap 22 for Mike Pershing slowed in turn three and then on lap 23 for Vowan in turn two. Padilla held on to take the feature win. Kinderknecht was second, May in third, Illinois's RJ Gonzales and Kansa's Dalton Bell rounded out the top five.

Pospisil Takes SLMR Victory at Hamilton County

The decision on where to go was set earlier in the week so since mother nature cooperated so I made the trip up to the historic half mile Karl Chevrolet Buick GMC Hamilton County Speedway. The night featured the Hoker Trucking SLMR Late Models presented by Jerry Goebel State Farm Insurance and Karl Chevrolet Buick GMC along with the Summit Racing Equipment USRA Weekly Racing Series.

Seventy-two cars signed in to tame the Hamilton County Speedway including 22 SLMR Late Models for the first solo Haulin' with Hoker Trucking East Series. Racing action was action packed and did not disappoint on a beautiful Saturday night in Webster City.

Thanks to track announcer Bryan Denekas for giving me a shoutout and want to thank Todd Staley for always allowing me to attend some of your races you put it, the racing track was fantastic last night. Final checkered flag came at 10:24p.

First feature of the night was the Al Automotive USRA Tuners 8 lap feature event. Matt Buchanan jumped out to the race lead but had to fend off challenges from Tyler Crimmins. The first caution came out for Michael Sinclair in turn four. A lap later Matt Buchanan and Crimmins got together sending Crimmins spinning and Buchanan penalized for spinning him. This allowed Crimmins to regain the lead and lead the final two laps. Crimmins took the win. Matt Buchanan was second, Sinclair in third and Jonathan Buchanan was fourth.

After an intermission, it was go time for the Hoker Trucking SLMR Late Models for their 30 lap feature event. Corey Zeitner and Tad Pospisil led the field to the green flag with Pospisil grabbing the top spot early. Zeitner trailed Pospisil but couldn't get by as Pospisil was able to pull away until encountering lap traffic. That allowed Zeitner and Chad Holladay to reel him back down. The caution came out on lap 11 when Gavin Tarras went off the top of turn four. Another caution came out two laps later when Zeitner slowed on the back-stretch before coming to a stop. On the following restart, Derrick Stewart spun in turn four.

Pospisil remain strong out front and held of Holladay and Charlie McKenna on the restart and started to pull away again. The caution came out again on lap 18 when Jeff Tharp, Dave Eckrich and Corey Dripps went off top of turn three. Pospisil again held off Holladay on the restart and appeared to be heading on to the easy win until 2 more cautions came out. Lap 24 when Fred Remley in turn four and then on lap 26, JC Wyman slid off Top of turn 2. Pospisil held on to take the feature win ahead of Holladay, seventh place starter Jason Hahne, Jeff Aikey and ninth place starter Luke Goedert. Quick Time went to Derrick Stewart. Heat Winners was Andy Eckrich, Corey Zeitner and Lance Matthees.

Dennis Elliott jumped out the race lead early in the Olsen Family USRA Modifieds 18 lap feature event but the caution came out on lap two for Brandon Shahan spins in turns three and four. Elliott held of Christopher Elliott and Garrett Wilson on the restart but Josh Angst, working his way from sixth to the race lead on lap four. Angst lead was short lived as he spun in turn two by himself. Dennis Elliott regained the lead and started to flex his muscles only to see the caution came out on lap nine for Jason Bass stopping in turn four. Elliott was not to be denied as he went on to take feature win. Devon Havlik finished second, Wilson was third, David Brown was fourth and Ben Nading was fifth.

Before a single lap was scored in the Diamond in the Rough USRA Hobby Stocks 15 lap feature event, there was two cautions. The first caution was because Bryce Sommerfeld jumped the start forcing a restart. On the restart, there was another caution for Adam Rodamaker spinning in turn two. Roger Haupt led the first lap when the feature got rolling but Lincoln Miller  able to take the top spot away on lap two. Another caution came out on lap four when Rodamaker went off top of turn three. Miller continued to lead until Kolby Goepel took the top spot away. The final race caution came out on lap 12 when Miller and Danny Ayers got together in turn three. Goepel went on to lead the final three laps and come home with the feature win. Scott Doebel was able to steal second away from Sommerfeld, Sommerfeld was third. Jeremy Crimmins in fourth and Haupt was fifth.

Hunter Longnecker jumped out to the race lead in the Stein Heating & Cooling USRA B-Mods 15 lap feature with Ty Griffith running second and it appeared as Longnecker was going to take the win. The only caution came out on lap nine when Jerid Ratzke broke and spun on the back-stretch. Longnecker held off Griffith and Bryer McCoy on the restart, once again looked to be heading to victory lane. Griffith made the move with three laps to go to take over the race lead from Longnecker. Griffith goes on to take his second win of the season. Longnecker, McCoy, Dustin West and Jamie Andreasen round out the top five.

Final feature of the night was the Seneca Foundry USRA Stock Cars 16 lap feature event. Parker Slagle the opening three laps before a caution for debris in turn two. Myles Michehl got by Slagle on the restart to take over the race lead and started to pull away only to see a caution come out on lap eight when Logan Staley spun off turn two. Michehl got a great restart and went on to take the feature win. Reid Keller finished second, Slagle fell back to third, Bill Crimmins in fourth and Paul Conrad was fifth.

O'Neal Repeats and Takes Castrol FloRacing Night in America at Motown

Karl Auto Group of Marshalltown Speedway finally got back to life after last Thursday's races getting rained out. On Tuesday Night, the speedway hosted the Castrol FloRacing Night in America. A total of 89 cars signed in to tame the high banks for Castrol FloRacing Night in America including 33 Super Late Models.

Castrol FloRacing Night in America for the second year did not disappoint. As there was great racing action all night long in all three classes. Hudson O'Neal has found the winning formula at MoTown and in the off season made the move over to the Rocket1 Racing team, undeniably they have been a strong force as of late.

The IMCA Modifieds and IMCA Stock Cars features did not disappoint that had some great racing through out the field. Troy Jerovetz and Tom Berry Jr. took the feature wins. Racing action wrapped up at 10:10p. This announcer had fun announcing with Ben Shelton, Dustin Jarrett, Blake Anderson and Rodney Tomlinson. It was also really cool to see longtime announcer of Marshalltown, Denny Grabenbauer in the house to watch the races.

First feature of the night was the Castrol FloRacing Night in America Super Late Models 50 lap feature event. Defending World of Outlaws Late Model Champion Dennis Erb Jr lead the first lap fending off Hudson O'Neal, Max Blair slipped by both of them on lap two. O'Neal however showed his strength and took over the race lead on lap four. O'Neal held off Blair and Erb before starting to pulling away. Blair, Erb and Mike Marlar had a three wide battle on lap eight.

Brandon Overton was able to grab second way on lap 18 and Bobby Pierce followed into second on lap 19. Overton and Pierce reeled in O'Neal as the lap traffic started getting heavy. Pierce tried to pull a slid job in turns three and four that ran O'Neal and himself off the track, O'Neal grazed the guardrail in turn four. Overton nearly sneaked by on the bottom side but O'Neal continued to lead. The only race caution came out on lap 29 for Tyler Bruening sitting in turn two.

O'Neal fend off both Pierce and Overton on the restart and the remaining distance. O'Neal went on to take his second win in Motown in consecutive years, second straight FloRacing Series victory this season and the third of his career. Pierce came home 1.112 second behind O'Neal in second place. Overton was third, Ricky Thornton Jr was fourth and Tim McCreadie was fifth.

Next up on the speedway was the "Class Too Tough Too Tame" IMCA Stock Cars presented by Drury Automotive & Truck Repair for their 20 lap feature event. "The General" Troy Jerovetz jumped out to the race lead fending off Tom Berry Jr early. The only stoppage of the race was on lap five for Taylor Kuehl when she caught fire in turn three and came to a stop in turn four. Jerovetz held off Berry and Jay Schmidt on the restart. Jerovetz goes on takes the win with the top prize of $750 to win. Berry finished second, Schmidt came across the line in third but his right rear shock measured too high resulting in a disqualification. That moved up Dallon Murty to a third place finisher, Jake Sachau in fourth and Todd Reitzler in fifth.

Final feature of the night was the Tire Demon by Love Tap for the Friesen Performance IMCA Modifieds 20 lap feature event. Tom Berry Jr wrestled the race lead from fellow front row starter Ethan Braaksma. Berry got pressure from Todd Shute but the caution came out on lap three for Ryan Maitland spinning in turn two. Berry was not going to be denied as he look strong and tough on the restart fending off Shute. Berry pulled away and never looked back going on to take the $1,000 to win prize. Shute, Tim Ward, Cody Laney and Jonathan Logue rounded out the top five.

Castrol FloRacing Night in America Late Models head to the Mississippi Valley Fairgrounds and the Davenport Speedway on Wednesday May 17th for another $23,023 to win show. IMCA Modifieds join the card at the track promoted by Kays (K-Promotions). Hot Laps at 6:30p.

NASCAR Weekly Racing Series Finally Gets Underway at Hawkeye Downs

Last week was suppose to be the beginning of an era as the Hawkeye Downs Speedway has gone under the NASCAR Advance Auto Parts Weekly Racing Series Banner in 2023. Mother Nature had other plans as last weeks season opener was rained out along with the Mid-Am Series first visit to the Downs.

Friday Night finally got the 2023 season rolling on both the quarter mile and half mile ovals with Hills Bank Night at the Races. Racing action began at 7:05p and wrapped up 9:35p. The racing was exciting an competitive in the heats and features, Great job by Race Director Brian Gibson and the rest of the track crew keeping the program moving.

Yes the car counts are little depressing but the racing action did not and I ask that you go support the Downs when you can because they could use more cars. One cool featured they added this year is the choose cone, an orange cone with blue LED Lights, so the drivers can see and choose their restart lane. Only exception is if you are the caution, you must start the tail end of the longest line.

First feature of the night was the Sunline Hornets 15 lap feature event. Corey Crispin jumped out to the top spot early and was followed by Adam Weller. Weller was able to make the pass for the race lead on lap seven, and appeared to be heading on to the win. Weller  crossed the finish line in first but was disqualified in post race tech handing the win over to Crispin. Korey Lana was given second, Jeremy Cassill in third, Josh Cassill in fourth and Duane Hochstedler in fifth.

Jacob Tiegen took the early race lead in the Performance Foods Sportsmans 15 lap feature event with Jim Hanson all over him on lap one. Tiegen looked comfortable out front until a caution came out on lap four when Greg Hentrich and Joshua Sevey got together in turn two. Tiegen initial held off Hanson but Hanson was able to work his way into the top spot on lap six. Hanson started to pull away as Todd Ness worked his way into second. The caution came out on lap 11 when Will Zamastil spun in turn four. Hanson went on to claim the victory ahead of Ness, Tiegen, Hentrich and David Ballstaedt.

Adam Petrzelka led from start to finish in the Anderson Automotive Hobby Stocks 15 lap feature event. Petrzelka held off Jason Sherman and Matt Petrzelka early before getting a little separation. The caution came out on lap seven when Jason Sherman was spun in turn three by Derek Parrott, Parrott was sent to the tail as Sherman got his spot back. Adam Petrzelka was not fazed as he went on to take the feature win. Sherman finished runner-up, Reggie Mitchell finished third, Parrott worked back to finish fourth and Matt Petrzelka was fifth.

Next on the Speedway was the Legends Direct Legends 20 lap feature event. Jacob Tiegen wrestled the race lead early from fellow front row starter Michael Weber. Collin Stocker made it a three car pack out front. The caution came out on lap four when Taylor Bennett spun in turn two. Tiegen continued to lead as Weber and Stocker battled for second. Stocker made the pass on Weber for second and set his sights getting by Tiegen and on lap 13, Stocker was able to get by Tiegen for the race lead. Stocker went on to take the feature win, Weber grabbed second away from Tiegen, Tiegen fell back to third. Kacey Korsmo and Kevin Korsmo round out the top five.

Patrick Flannagan jumped out to the race lead in the Cassill Motors Sport Mods 15 lap feature and never looked back. Jonny Williams ran second the entire distance, Chad Siems was third, Steve Wimer was fourth and Tallan Chandler, spun early but kept going to avoid a caution and came back to finish fifth.

Final feature of the night was the King Enterprises Late Models 15 lap feature and it was all Griffin McGrath. McGrath jumped out and pulled away allowing him to cruise on to the win. Bryce Miller, Kacey Korsmo, Danny Lehmkuhl and Mark Ironside rounded out the top five.

NASCAR Advance Auto Parts Weekly Racing Series continues next Friday May 19th featuring Sprint Series at Hawkeye Downs sponsored by Sunline. Legends, Hornets, Hobby Stocks, Sportsmans and Sport Mods are all racing. Pits Open at 4:30p, Grandstands Open at 6p, Hot Laps at 6:40p, Racing at 7:05p.

Murty Wins by a Photo Finish During Dynamic Drivelines Dirt Duel at Stuart

Initial I was not planning to attend the rescheduled Dynamic Drivelines Dirt Duel at the Karl Chevrolet of Stuart Speedway meaning I did not make sure my camera was ready to go racing to take pictures if I did go. I was offered a ride by Team 3W Racing (Dilly Bar Special) to go along with them if I wanted to go and after working somethings out to be able to go, along with getting my clipboard ready to keep notes, I could make the trip after all.

One hundred and thirty cars signed in for the Dynamic Drivelines Dirt Duel, which included being the season opener for the Karl Chevrolet of Stuart Speedway.  Everybody in attendance did not go home disappointed as the racing was fantastic they were using every ounce of the quarter mile bullring.

They went two, three, four and even briefly five wide on the night and several races came down to the final laps of the feature including one that was a photo finish at the line. All of that the final checkered flag flew at 10:15p meaning the race program was completed in 3 hours.

First feature of the night was the Outlaw Mini Mods presented by Drury Automotive & Truck Repair 15 lap feature event. Chris Trulson led the opening four laps including through three cautions. Ben Kraus, defending Champion, was able to take the race lead away on the restart but being flanked by Lucas Daniels. The final race caution came out on lap nine when Clayton Vanderploeg spun in turn two and Trulson flippped on the backstretch. Kraus was able to get a great restart and go on take the feature win ahead of Lucas Daniels, Bobby Daniels, Chase Daniels and Haggard.

Mason Mitchell jumped out to the race lead early in the Karl Chevrolet Dirt Trucks 18 lap feature event fending of Shawn Cooney and Jeff Johnson. Mitchell pulled away until the field was bunched back up after a caution on lap 14 for Terry May in Turn one. Mitchell held off Cooney and Johnson, managing to lead wire-to-wire to claim his first truck win for the former ARCA Menards Series Champion. Mitchell had a special guest with him at Stuart, Kyle Larson's Spotter and his friend Tyler Monn. Cooney finished runner-up, Jeff Johnson was third, Brandon Cox was fourth and Brandon Toftee was fifth. Johnson remains points leader as the Dirt Trucks next race is Saturday at the Boone Speedway.

Next up was the Karl Chevrolet of Stuart IMCA Sport Mods 20 lap feature event. Garrett Nelson led the first lap before Taylor Kuehl was able to be Cool and get by Nelson for the race lead. Kuehl led until the caution came out on lap five for Mike Rutherford in turn two. "Speedy Bray" Brayton Carter was able to get by Kuehl on the restart but the caution came out again on lap six when Gage Hilgenberg spun in turn one. The following restart saw the caution come out when Josalyn Elmquist smacked the wall in turn one. Carter had to do with one more race caution on lap ten when Tony Johnson spun in turn four. Carter went on to take the feature win worth $1,000. Cam Reimers got by Kuehl to claim second. Kuehl, Mitchell Morris and Matt Avila round out the top five.

Jeremiah Downing jumped out to the race lead in the John's Tree Service IMCA Sport Compacts 15 lap feature event and appeared to be going on to the win until Kolby Sabin reeled him in. Sabin applied pressure to Downing and on lap 10 took over the race lead after using a lap car to his advantage. Sabin was able to hang on the final five laps to take the win. Downing finished second, Anthony Clark was third, Owen Richards was fourth and Terry Bickford was fifth.

The class nicknamed the "Class Too Tough Too Tame" IMCA Stock Cars sponsored by Affordable Quality Roofing Exteriors was next on the bullring for their 20 lap feature event. There was exciting three and four wide the entire distance of this one allowing them to live up to their name. Damon Murty led the first lap but it was Nick Roberts taking the top spot away on lap two. Roberts pulled away and was smooth until Dallon Murty worked his way from twelfth to second. Dallon Murty reeled in Roberts and began to challenge for the race lead but came up short, but then only race caution came out after Ty Hill got into Brandon Pruitt in turn four.

Caution on lap 16 was able to allow Dallon Murty to change the game and apply even more pressure on Roberts, Roberts initial fended it off but Murty refused to go away and was able to force Roberts to change his line up. Murty was able to beat Roberts in a photo finish at the line, with the gap .030 seconds. Murty taking the win, Roberts finishing second. Eighth place starter Tom Berry Jr finished third, Buck Schafroth was fourth and Troy Jerovetz was fifth.

John Watson led the first lap of Rick's Towing IMCA Hobby Stocks 16 lap feature event before hometown favorite Skylar Pruitt took the top spot away on lap two. Pruitt tried to pull away but the only race caution came out when Jared Smith came to a stop in turn two. Pruitt was not going to denied as he held on to take the feature win ahead of Luke Ramsey, Watson, Adam Hensel and Cody Williams.

Final feature of the night was the 20 lap VIP Contractors IMCA Modifieds feature event. Nick Roberts was able to grab the race lead and once again looked to be heading on to the win despite the race cautions on lap five for Scott Bash stop in turn two and on lap eight when Josh Gilman spun on the front-stretch. Roberts was able to get a great restart and pull away until a caution on lap 17 came out when Josh Cooper spun in turn two. Roberts saw Tom Berry Jr make the move and take over the top spot away, Roberts made heavy contact with the wall in turn one forcing him to fall back to sixteenth. Berry went on to pocket $1,000 to win. Tim Ward was second, Jesse Dennis was third, Grey Ferrando was fourth and Drew Janssen was fifth.

Next up for the Karl Chevrolet of Stuart Speedway is the Tammy & Tim Stevens Memorial Monday Night Madness on Monday May 15th sponsored by Supreme Lawn & Landscape, Rick's Towing & Transport, Avey Sanitation and Big Load Trailer Sales.
