So Friday Night was suppose to be at the Marshalltown Speedway for the Local UAW 893 Cliff Chambers Memorial, mother nature had other plans as she decided to let loose at about 4 pm and not let up so after making the decision to stay home on Friday Night. My Attention turned to figuring out where I would go racing on Saturday.
So on Saturday after watching the cancellations roll in again, the thought was would there be racing will yes, Boone Speedway and Warren County Speedway was both racing. After discussion, I decided to load my camera and prep my clip board to keep notes and make the 69.7 mile trip to the Warren County Speedway in Indianola.
The race track had a lot of character and left the drivers with their hands full, however don't blame that on the track blame that on mother nature and the meteorologists. They said all week it would be only scattered Showers on Friday and would not last long well that was wrong so instead of getting pissed thank Brandan Long and the track crew for their hard work. Anybody that wants to complain about how last night take it up with mother nature.
I had a fun night took some pictures and posted them on the Trackside Report by Foxman Facebook Page in a photo album called Warren County Speedway Crows Nest RV Resort Night 5-6-23.
First feature of the night was the Micro Sprints feature event, Brantley "The Bullet" Tjaden had issues in the heat race but in the feature no issues here. Tjaden grabbed the lead early and never looked back. Luke Lane ran second, Tim Young was able to come home third and Garrett Warren was fourth. Morgan Dennis and Chuck Alexander scratched from the feature.
Chris Mitchell and Shelbie Mitchell jumped out to the lead and never looking back cruising on to take the victory in the TruBank Cruisers 16 lap feature event. Ethan Thompson and his co-driver battled with Jason Collins and Clay Collins most of the way before Thompson's car expired to the infield. Collins / Collins came home second, Donavon Binns / Denny Binns was third, Will Aldridge and co-driver was fourth, Will Shivers and Travis Shivers was fifth.
In the Williams Machine Shop Open Figure 8 Feature event, Casey McKasson jumped out to the race lead with David Burnell folllowing into second. McKasson and Burnell pulled away from Aubrey McKasson and Colton Wicker. Burnell started to apply some pressure on Casey McKasson until McKasson retired from the race with mechanical issues. Burnell was able to go on and take the feature win ahead of Aubrey McKasson and Colton Wicker.
Brock Bush led the first ten laps of the Bussanmas Heating & Cooling Stock Figure 8 feature event despite receiving pressure from J Milton Tarter Jr. However on lap ten, Bush all of sudden lost power and came to a stop in turn four. Jesse Tarter was able to get by J Milton Tarter Jr on the restart and went on to take the feature win. Tarter Jr finished second, Joe Grubbs was third, Will Aldridge was fourth and Bush got fifth.
Hawkeye Auto Salvage Hobby Stocks 16 lap feature event was next on the Speedway, Josh Fredrickson led the first lap before David Castellano took the lead away. Castellano got a little separation before encountering lap traffic on lap seven. Castellano saw the caution come out on lap 11 when Preston Kline came to a stop in turn four and then again on the restart when Josh Fredrickson came to a stop in turn three and when Castellano experience mechanical issues. That allowed Jason Collins to claim the top spot and after fending off Travis Fenton and Leonard Loftus, Collins took home the win. Loftus, Fenton, twelfth place starter Garrett Croy and Brandon Willemsen rounded out the top five.
Cole Becker driving the Intimidator Truck in the Phillips' Floors Trucks 16 lap feature took the top spot fending off Joe Graves. The caution came out on lap four though when Robby Dittmer, Travis Shivers and Matt Breeden get together under the flag stand in turn one. A lap later the caution came out when Clay Collins came to a stop in turn two. Becker was determined to continue to lead the way but the caution came out again on lap nine for debris against the wall that came off of Shiver's ride. One more caution on lap 13 when Cole Edgington and Shivers got together in turn two. Becker was not intimidated as he went on take the feature win. Graves ran second the entire way, Shivers came back to finish third, Robby Dittmer was fourth and Alex Catron was fifth.
Katelynn Watts led from start to finish in the DeYarman Ford JR Front Wheel Drive 12 lap feature event. Watts is two for two this season at Warren County. Colton Howe got by Zachary Cleghorn for second forcing Cleghorn to third. Emberli VanClark came home in fourth and Emily Duncan started on the pole but fell back to fifth.
Final feature of the night was the Front Wheel Drive 16 lap feature event, the initial start was called back, on the following restart it was Michael Gardner III grabbing the lead but shortly after the first lap was scored the caution came out when Logan Stevens spun in turn two. Gardner III saw Colbin Funke wrestle the lead away on lap three. Funke tried to pull away only to see the red flag came out when Braelynn Long made heavy contact with Wesley King causing a small fire. Funke was not to be denied despite heavy pressure late as he went on to take the feature win. Terry Bickford claimed second late, Gardner III fell back to third, Michael Gardner was fourth and King finished fifth.
