It was a crispy, cool August night at the Karl Auto Group of Marshalltown Speedway on Friday night for Vessco Inc., RBF Electric, and BHE Night at the races. The racing was hot and heavy all night long, with a lot of two-, three-, and sometimes four-wide racing.
Ninety-six cars checked in to tame the high banks on Friday night. $1,000 to win in the IMCA Mod Lites, IMCA Hobby Stocks, and IMCA Sport Mods. The final checkered flag was waived at 10:03 p.m.

The first feature of the night was the IMCA Friesen Performance Northern SportMods, presented by Rugged Radios, a 16-lap feature event. Tyler Inman jumped out to the immediate lead from outside the front-row starting spot. Cory Van Zante and Brayton Carter ran second and third, as Will Wolf and Kyle Olson battled for fifth. The caution came out on lap 12 for Zander Keeland in turn one. Inman held off Carter and Van Zante on the restart. Inman went on to take the feature win and the $1,000 prize, thanks to BHE. Carter finished second, Van Zante was third, Olson took fourth, and Colton Livezey came home in fifth.
IMCA STARS Mod Lite 15-lap feature, presented by Knight Sanitation, was up next. "Huggie Bear" Joel Huggins grabs the early race lead, holding off Silva, Illinois racer Jon Padilla. Padilla, however, got by Huggins on lap four when Huggins slipped up. Padilla then started to pull away as Huggins battled with Josh May. The first caution came out on lap seven for Cody Heck spinning in turns three and four right in front of the leaders. Padilla again got a great restart and pulled away, but the caution came out again on lap 13 for Tracen Glick spinning in turn one. Padilla held on to the lead for the final two laps to claim his third win of the season, worth a prize of $1,000, thanks to Vessco Inc. Huggins came home second, tenth-place starter Bryan Zehm was in third, May was in fourth, and twelfth-place starter Ben George was in fifth.
In the IMCA Stock Car 20-lap feature, presented by Drury Automotive, Scott Rice grabbed the early race lead. Rice held off Michael Jaennette early and even after the caution on lap two when Austin Schrage and Steve Meyer went off the top in turn two. Rice held everybody and looked to be heading for the feature win, but Jaennette refused to go away. Jaennette took the top spot away on lap 15 from Rice and fended off challenges from Rice until the checkers. It was Jaennette's first win this season in Motown. Rice, Meyer, points leader Jimmy Gustin, and Schrage rounded out the top five.
Scott Simatovich led the first lap of the IMCA Friesen Performance Modifieds, presented by Tire Demon by Love Tap, and went 20 laps in their feature event. The caution came out shortly after lap one was scored in the books when Robert Moore spun in turn three. Simatovich slipped up on the restart exiting turn two, "The Game Changer" Dallon Murty too took the race lead away; Tripp Gaylord took second away from Simatovich on lap three. Gaylord then began to battle Murty for the race lead, and he managed to take it away on lap five. Gaylord led, but Murty refused to go away. Murty pulled a slider on Gaylord to take the top spot back on lap 17. Gaylord returned to the favor and took the lead back on lap 18, squeezing Murty in the front stretch wall. Gaylord took the feature win, and Murty finished second. Zack Rawlins took third, David Brown was fourth, and thirteenth-place starter Ryan Gillmore was fifth.
Fifteen-lap IMCA Sport Compacts, presented by Hy-Vee of Marshalltown, were next up on the speedway. Jeremy Williams led the first lap but slipped up, allowing Michael Gardner to take the top spot away, and he was trailed by Cristian Grady. Grady then applied pressure to Gardner, but Gardner fended them off before pulling away. Grady was left to fend off several challenges until the only race caution came out on lap ten. Williams and Ryan Brant got together on the front stretch, resulting in Williams making heavy contact with the front stretch wall. Kaiden Gosselink suffered some damage in the caution; Katelynn Watts nearly avoided that. Gardner held off Grady initially but slipped up on lap 12, allowing Grady to take the top spot away briefly. Gardner was able to come back and make slight contact with Grady to regain the lead. Gardner went on to claim his first IMCA win, ahead of Grady, Watts, Corwyn Whisler, and David Kimmel.
The final feature of the night was the 16-lap feature for the IMCA Hobby Stocks, presented by Cappy's Big 8 Tyre Center. The initial start was waived off, but when the racing action got started, it was Solomon Bennett grabbing the race lead, just like he did last week. Bennett held off Calvin Dhondt and Tucker Richardson. The caution came out on lap two for an infield tire getting kicked out onto the track in turn four. Bennett held them off again on the restart, but the caution came out on lap four when Sam West was spun by Kale Hemsley in turn two. Bennett remained strong and led until Brandon Nielsen took the race lead on lap 12. Nielsen, in town for a wedding on Saturday, decided to bring the race car, which was well worth it as he captured the $1,000 top prize, courtesy of RBF Electric, and the feature win. Bennett finished runner-up again, Dhondt finished third, Richardson was fourth, and eleventh-place starter Eric Knutson was fifth.
