Well the story of the weekend at the Marshalltown Speedway was mother nature takening the win and the payouts. As we were looking forward to the Kruse Family Night at the Races but mother nature would win and continue to rain and force the cancellation of night number 3 of the season. So with Marshalltown raining out on Friday i decided i would make the venture over to "Iowa's Action Track" the Boone Speedway on Saturday night for some racing action. Despite mother nature looking like she would win the Boone Speedway was able to race as did the Hamilton County Speedway in Webster City and Algona Raceway but for me it was off to the Boone Speedway.
The Dwarf Cars were up first for their 12 lap feature in Boone, a total of 20 cars signed in the most of the entire season. Matthew Goodin would take the early race lead but would be passed by Joel Huggins on lap 3 for the lead. Huggins would cruise to the victory in the green to checkered race, James May would take 2nd. The first 2 nights winner Josh May would take home 3rd as Goodin would end up 4th and Mike Kennedy would come home in 5th.
The IMCA Sport Mods was up next for their 18 lap feautre but it would take 4 heats and a b-feature to get the field from 31 cars to just 24 cars for the feature. After all that was settle, Dan Wetzel would take the lead from the pole position and look to be pulling away but then a caution would come out on lap 2 when Jared timmerman and Brandon Morris would get together in turns 1 and 2. Wetzel would lead them back to green with Tim Love and Jerry Hinton on his back bumper. Wetzel would continue to lead but another caution would come out on lap 12 after Eric Elliott made heavy contact with the back straightaway wall before coming to a stop in turn 3. Wetzel, Scott Davis, Love, Hinton and Brett Moffitt was the top 5 on the restart. Wetzel, Davis and Love would begin to battle for the top 3 spots, Wetzel would continue to lead the race but would be passed by Davis on lap 16, Davis would go on and take the win. Tim Love would take 2nd over Wetzel, Cayden Carter would get 4th and Jerry Hinton would take 5th.
Up next is the IMCA Modifieds for their 20 lap feature, 27 cars signed in so all cars would go to the feature. Before 1 lap was completed Kent Croskey would spin out in turn 3 but Richie Gustin would take advantage of his pole postiton on the restart as he would get a good start on Rookie Joel Bushore. Richie Gustin would begin to cruise away but another caution would come out on lap 2 when Russ Dickerson would spin in turn 1 and then another one on lap 4 when Fred Schimmels, Jimmy Gustin, Denny Pittman, Todd Shute and Kyle Krampe getting together in turn 1. Richie Gustin would begin to cruise away this time but then the final race caution would come out on lap 12 when Scott Strauss would spin in turn 4. On the restart tho, Gustin would make sure he would pull away and not let anything prevent him from taking the win. As Gustin took the win, Adam Larson would take 2nd with Bushore in 3rd, Cale Sponsler in 4th and Luke Wanninger in 5th.
IMCA Stock Cars were up next for their 18 lap feature, 28 cars signed in so it took 3 heats and b feature to get the field down to 24 cars. Jerry Gifford would jump out to the early race lead and would again to be cruising away or so he thought as his brother Wayne would catch up to him and make a pass on lap 10 and just after that there was 2 cautions before a lap was completed, the first caution was Brad Dutton making contact with the wall on the backstretch and the second caution was when 7 cars got together in turns 3 & 4 on the restart. Wayne Gifford would cruise to the victory as Jerry Gifford would finish 2nd. Donavon Smith, Dustin Smith and Ty Hill rounded out the top 5.
The final features of the night was for the IMCA Hobby Stocks. In Feature #1, Tyler Pickett would take advantage of his outside front row as he would lead the first 4 laps but would be passed by Cody Gustoff on lap 5. Gustoff would take the win in the green-to-checkered race with Pickett in 2nd. Aaron Rudolph, John Watson and Brandon Pruitt would round out the top 5. In Feature #2, Jesse Hopkins would take the lead but would see a yellow after 1 lap was in the books when Chris Hupp would stop on the front stretch. Hopkins would lead the next 4 laps too but would be passed by Eric Stanton on lap 6 and cruise to the victory. Pat Mather, Tony Cox, Randy Embrey and Hopkins would finish behind Stanton.
Despite a little sprinkle through out the night of racing action the entire night was able to be run with out a problem and came to end at 10:45pm.
See you at the races next week!
