Stensland, Davis, Durbin, Gifford and Murphy Win on Little League Night at Boone

Since Friday night rained out i decided to go somewhere for racing on Saturday Night and that choice was the Boone Speedway "Iowa's Action Track" or "Historic" Hamilton County Speedway in Webster City. I decided to head to Boone and a good choice that was for me.

At the Boone Speedway it was Little League Night at the races where they had batting practice in the infield which delayed the start of the races and delayed the start of features also along with that all students 19 & under were admitted free.

Only 1 class would need a b-feature and that would be the Mod Lites/Dwarf Cars. Tim Hennigar would come across the line in first but would come across the scale 2 lbs too light so he was disaqualifed so that would give the win too Terry Sorenson, Tim Milner was 2nd and now Larry Sorenson was 3rd.

After a farming session and some infield batting practice again it was feature time and first up was the Mod Lites/Dwarf Cars for 15 laps. Joel Huggins and Travis Stensland battled for the lead through the early going with Huggins the leader. On lap 8, Stensland made the pass for the lead and would go on to the win in the feature that went green to checkered. Huggins would pull into the infield on the final lap and that would hand 2nd place over to Travis's dad Jeff Stensland. Josh May, Charlie Brown and James May rounded out the top 5.

IMCA Sport Mods were up next for 18 laps and it was Stacy Clark taking the early lead but then a caution would come out on lap 6 for Jason Purvis spinning in turn 4. Clark would remain out front until lap 10 when Brian Miller made the pass for the lead but then Miller and the field would see the yellow come out with two laps to go so that would put Scott Davis on his back bumper on the restart. Davis would make the pass on the last lap and take the win from Miller. Nick Roberts took 3rd, Stacy Clark was 4th and Tara Longnecker was 5th.

In the IMCA Modifieds 20 lap feature it was Craig Carlson taking the early race lead but Jake Durbin would charge up and take the lead on lap 5. Durbin look to be cruising away but then two cautions came out on lap 16 and 17. Durbin wouldn't let that bother him as he would go on and take the win. Josh Gilman, Craig Carlson, Cale Sponsler and Randy Havlik would round out the top 5.

The class "Too Tough To Tame" IMCA Stock Cars were up next for their very competitive 18 lap feature. Eric Brown would lead early and looked to be in confortable form until a caution on lap 8 that resulted in a red flag. Terry Corneilson would find his world go upside down and sideways and come to a rest on his side on the backstretch. Corneilson was not injured. Brown would continue to to lead but Richards would take the lead on lap 15 only to lose it to Jerry Gifford then the final caution came out on lap 16. On the restart Gifford, Brown, Richards and Donavon Smith would battle for the top spot and it would an exciting final 2 laps. Gifford would lead the final 2 laps and take the win with Richards in 2nd, Brown in 3rd, Smith in 4th and Trent Murphy was 5th.

Final feature of the night was the IMCA Hobby Stocks 12 lap feature. Brandon Brinton would lead the first 7 laps despite cautions on lap 3 and 5. The caution on lap 5 was for Tyler Pickett, who would lose the rearend out of his car going into turn 3. Michael Murphy would make the pass on Brinton on lap 8 for the lead and then another race caution would come out. Murphy would continue to lead and just after he took the white flag the red flag would come out for Eric Stanton, as Stanton would roll his car in turn 1, he wouldn't be injured. Brinton was 2nd, John Watson was 3rd, Austin Luellen was 4th and Danny Watson was 5th.

Racing action came to an end at 11pm. Next Saturday Night will be Pat Clemons Inc. & Harris Auto Racing Mid-Season Championships Night at the Races. Check out http://www.raceboone.com/ for racing results and points standings.
