Saturday Night i decided to make the adventure over the Boone Speedway for a great night of racing and when i arrived i decided to deem the night as "Mini Super Nationals" because 186 cars signed in to do battle. 6 b-features would be run to help determine the field in a few classes.
Before the features there would be the Modified King of the Hill sponsored by Harris Auto Racing and John Logue. Round 1 saw Jon Snyder beating Cale Sponsler, Kelly Lyons beating Todd Shute, Kyle Brown beating Matt Meineke and Mike Van Genderen beating Jimmy Gustin. Round 2 saw Snyder beating Lyons and Brown beating Van Genderen. The final would see Modified Rookie "Downtown" Kyle Brown take the $500 home as he would be "Showtime" Jon Snyder.
The first feature of the night was the Mod Lites 15 lap feature and it was Bryan Zehm quickly jumping out to the lead and started to pull away until the only race caution would come out on lap 10 when Joel Keenan would lose a wheel and come to a rest in turn 2. Zehm would have to deal with Josh May and Jason Whitehead but would hold off to take the win. May took 2nd, Whitehead in 3rd, Andy Hennigar in 4th and Randy Bryan in 5th.
Chad Ryerson would lead the first 8 laps in the IMCA SportMods 18 lap feature and then the yellow would come out on lap 8 when Rocky Caudle would lose the handle in turn 3. On the restart, Ryerson would be passed by Cole Ferguson. The next race caution came out on lap 11 when Eric Elliott would have a flat tire on the front stretch. Ferguson would continue to lead until the final race caution on lap 15 for Lynn Brockett and Coty Albers in turns 3 & 4. On the final restart it would be Scott Davis making the move on Ferguson to take the top spot away and take the win with Ferguson settling for 2nd. Ryerson, Racer Hulin and Nick Roberts would round out the top 5.
In the IMCA Modifieds 20 lap feature it was Cale Sponsler leading lap one by a bumper over Kelly Lyons, Lyons would take the lead the next lap and just shortly after the yellow would come out when Kyle Brown would have his rear end lock up going in to turn 3 also spinning out where Robert Avery, Kyle Krampe and Shay Woods. Lyons would continue to lead even through the next caution a lap later when Denny Pittman and Michael Reichart would spin in turn 2 and then for Scott Simatovich in turn 3. Joel Bushore would work his way up to take the lead away from Lyons on lap 8 but 3 laps later Bushore would give the top lane and there to take advantage was Jimmy Gustin. Gustin would get by and take the lead on lap 11 and lead the remaining laps to take the win. Jay Noteboom would get by and take 2nd, Snyder would get by Bushore for 3rd meaning Bushore was 4th and Lyons ended up 5th.
Mike Munson would lead the first 3 laps but he would then lose the handle in turn 4 to bring out the caution coming to complete lap 4, Munson would spin in turn 4 so the lead would go over to Cory Bushnell. Bushnell would lead the first lap after the restart but it would be Donavon Smith making the pass to take the lead. Smith and the field would see the yellow come out when Todd Fisher would spin out in turn 4. Smith would not let it bother him as he would cruise on to the win with Josh Daniels in 2nd. Jared Dirks, Alan Van Gorp and Bushnell would round out the top 5.
The final 2 features of the night was the IMCA Hobby Stocks 12 lap features. In feature #1 it was Tony Cox taking the early lead but just after 2 laps the caution would fly twice first for Darin Rothfus, Jacob Thompson and John Watson in turn 4 and then for Seth Janssen in turn 2. Cox would continue to lead until after completing lap 4 when he would go up in flames and smoke and come to a stop in the infield. Aaron Rudolph would inherit the lead and then just after the 5th lap was completed the caution would come out for Craig Brotherton spinning in turn 4. Rudolph would lead the remaining laps to take the win and then would have his carburetor claimed by John Watson. Scotty Lograsso in Brandon Brinton's car was 2nd, Josh Peters was 3rd, Garrett Eilander was 4th and Matt McDonald was 5th.
In Hobby Stock Feature #2 it was Ryan Grochala leading the first lap but then shortly after Grochala would spin out and collect Danny Watson to bring out the caution and handing the lead over to Kyle Dirks. Dirks would be passed by Craig Graham on the restart. Graham would lead but the field would see the caution on lap 8 for debris in turn 4. However 3 laps later Graham would be passed by David Reiks but Graham would get back by on the outside to take the win. Reiks was 2nd, Curt Reed was 3rd, Noah Ludwig was 4th and Matts Hudspeth was 5th.
The Boone Speedway has only 3 weekly Saturday Nights of racing left for the track championship and then the week long 30th Annual IMCA Speedway Motors Super Nationals the first week in September. For more information about all racing events at boone check out http://www.raceboone.com/
