Packed Pits and Stands Widness Great Thunder Dome Racing
By Jeremy Fox
Marshalltown, Iowa (March 16th, 2013) – After temperatures in the upper 50‘s and lower 60‘s earlier this week it caused a muddy mess but that didn’t damper anybodies plans as Thunderdome race number 7 would take place in the covered arena building at the Central Iowa Fairgrounds. Along with that the indoor pits would be packed full and the grandstands would be the fullest i have seen in the 3 years thats what we call progress being made.
First feature of the day would see the Open 4 Cycles as it would be “Turbo” Timmy Bontrager leading all 15 laps to complete the sweep and take his 4th win of the season. Jordan Krug would finish 2nd, Kody Havens finished 3rd and Mike Jones would grab 4th in the Open 4 Cycles.
Scott Badker would be the only Unilimted All-Stars kart on the day and so he would race with the Open 4 Cycles but claim the win in the UAS division.
Ethan Starrett would be the only Jr 1 Animal so he would claim the win in that division.
In the Kid Karts it would be “Zombie” Rolend Stewart completing the sweep to take the win in the Kid Karts. Keegan Thompson would come across the line in 2nd.
Jr 2 Medium feature would see Coltin Runyan have issues forcing him to the infield meanwhile it was Shawn Cooney jumping to the early race lead and appeared to be going away with the win but on lap 7, Thomas Egenberger would go on a spin cycle not once but twice forcing to yellow flags and 2 restarts. Cooney however had to deal with Tyler Havens on the restart, Cooney was able to hold him off momentarily but with 2 laps to go, Havens would find away around Cooney to take the lead and the win away. Mark Maas would also get by Cooney to grab 2nd, Cooney would end up 3rd. Brooke Havens would finish 4th and Brock Badger was 5th.
In the Quad C Trophy Class it was Jeff Robinson taking the whole shot win over Josh Thompson, Justin Sutherlin, Rick Reeves and Trinity Cuppies.
Rookie Beginners would see 8 entries on the day so we would split them up into 2 features. In Feature #1 it would be the “Ty-Man” Ty Solverson dominating from start to finish leading the entire 10 lap feature. Jayson Alexander, Riley Plymesser and Kennedy Davenport rounded out the field in feature #1. In Feature #2 it was Keagan Thompson leading the first 6 laps before Kinzer Jaennette would get by and grab the lead on lap 7. Janennette would take the win over Thompson, Drake Badker and Braeden Wildan.
The Rookie Adavanced class would again see only 2 competitors and it would be Brady Kohrs taking his 3rd straight feature win and 4th win of the season. Landon Duffy would finish 2nd.
Jr Quads would be split up into 3 feature events based on cc’s and size. In featrure #1 it was Caleb Ruyan would lead the entire feature to grab the win over quad #KB20 and Brody Watson. In Feature #2 it was Carter Kruse leading the entire race with JP Strawn finishing 2nd and Jackson Brown in 3rd. In Feature #3 it was Tristian Rethmeier taking the win over Kaden Polson.
In the Jr 1 Amateur division it would be Keaton Woosley grabbing the lead but in the early going the caution would come out for Kamden Criss which ended his race. Woosley would able to hold on to the lead and grab the win over Jordan Graves, Walker Ashton, Caleb Peterson and MaKayla Stephens.
Quad B feature would see Doug Slyvester get the wholeshot sweep on the way to grab the feature win. DJ Robinson was 2nd, Josh Thompson was 3rd and David Petothory was 4th.
Only 1 Box Stock signed in on the day and that was Riley Plain from Webster City so he would take the win.
Jr 1 Medium feature would see McKinzie Culbertson start off right where she left off 3 weeks ago and that was out front but on lap 2, Logan Duffy would drive in too hard in turns 3 and 4 and spin out forcing the yellow to come out. Culbertson wouldn’t let that bother her as she would remain out front and then the yellow would fly again on lap 8 this time for Nick Rose spinning in turn 3. Culbertson would manage to lead the remaining 4 laps to grab her 2nd win in as many races. Nick Rose would finish 2nd, Duffy would finish 3rd, Kadence Davenport was 4th and Blaine Webster was 5th.
Stock Heavy feature was up next and before 1 lap was completed the caution would come out when Dylan Webster and Adam Stevens would get together. When the reace restarted, Stevens would exit to the end field and it would be Kody Havens jumping to the early race lead. Johnny Emerson would find his way up to grab the lead away from Havens on lap 6. Emerson would go on to take the win with Travis Hatch in 2nd, Jordan Krug would be credited 3rd and Albert Wolgram was 4th. Kody Havens would come across the line in 3rd but be penalized 2 spots placing him in 5th.
Quad A Feature would see David Petithory complete the sweep again as he would get his 3rd wholeshot victory of the day. Doug Slyvester was 2nd and Blake Miller was 3rd.
Amateur Bikes and Pro Bikes would race together. Only one Amateur Bike and that would be Brandon Webster meanwhile 2 Pro Bikes would compete. Clayton Webster would grab the win in the Pro Bike over Keeton Fleener.
Final feature of the day was the Mad Dogg Bikes. Keeton Fleener would grab the wholesot victory over Brandon Webster and Promoter Brian Kauffman.
