Shute, Masters, Boumeester and Nielsen Take Victories on Salute to Veterans Night

Thursday Night decided I would make the two hour and twenty-one minute drive to the Kossuth County Speedway for some Racing at the home of Thursday Night Thunder. It was Salute To Veterans Night presented by Hunting with Heroes from Lakota. Many other sponsors donated money to the purses for all classes plus prizes for Military Veterans. There was also a pre-race flyover from Vintage Military Planes. Military Veterans and the Local Law Enforcement was also given a standing ovation. Salute to Veterans tribute cars was driven by Nick Meyer (Modifieds), Jake Masters (Stock Cars), Colby Fett (Sport Mods) and Brandon Nielsen (Hobby Stocks).

I was glad I did because the Racing was fantastic as there was two, three and four wide racing action all night. One Hundred Twenty Four checked in on the night including 33 IMCA Stock Cars, 31 IMCA Sport Mods, 26 IMCA Modifieds, 19 IMCA Hobby Stocks, eight IMCA Sport Compacts and seven Cruisers. Todd Shute (Modifieds) and Jake Masters (Stock Cars) pocketed $2,000 for their wins. Jared Boumeester (Sport Mods) and Cody Nielsen (Hobby Stocks) picked up $1,000 for their wins. Jade Lange won the Sport Compacts meanwhile Peg Lewis and Heather Pesicka won in the Cruisers.

First feature of the night was the Cruisers 6 lap feature event, "The Ladies" Peg Lewis and Heather Pesicka grabbed the lead on the opening lap and never looked back going on to take the their third feature win of the season. Gage Jorgenson and Gavin Jorgenson finished in the runner-up spot, Makiley Pesicka and Makenna Pesicka finished third. Fowler / Fowler finished fourth with  the team of Joe Heyes and Chris Heyes finishing fifth.

Kaytee Devries started third in the IMCA Sport Compacts 8 lap feature event but by the end of lap one, it was Devries in the top spot. Devries held off intial challenges from Jade Lange but Lange grabbed the top spot away on lap four. Lange managed to hold off Devries and then a late race challenge from Lucas Parsons to take the win. Parsons finished scond with Devries in third. Jaedon Erickson and Calvin Hinz finished fourth and fifth respectively.

Brandon Nielsen and Jay Sidles led the field to the green flag in the twelve lap IMCA Hobby Stocks feature event presented by MaxYield SEED. Brandon Nielsen wrestled the lead away but was followed brother Cody Nielsen. Just after lap two was scored, the caution came out for Chris Krug sitting in turn four. Brandon Nielsen held off Cody Nielsen but the caution came out again on lap four. This caution was for Keeran Sampson and Bryce Sommerfeld sitting in turn three. Brandon Nielsen held on to the lead until Cody Nielsen got by on lap six. Cody Nielsen got a little seperation and went on to take his fifth win in Algona. Finishing behind Cody Nielsen was Brandon Nielsen, Josh Sidles, Jay Sidles and Doug Wickman.

Up next was the IMCA Sport Mods fifteen lap feature event presented by JDR Seeds and before a single lap was scored the caution came out. The caution was for Matthew Looft, Doug Cook, Kent Haugland and Nate Whitehurst getting together in turn three. When the racing got going it was George Nordman wrestling the lead away. Nordman held off Alex Smith and appeared to be determined to win the $1,000 payday however the caution came out on lap ten. The caution came out for Thomas Behle spinning in turn two. Jared Boumeester got a great restart and took the lead away from Nordman. Boumeester went on to take his third win of the season at Kossuth County. Nordman, fourteen place starter Matthew Looft, twelfth place starter Doug Cook and fifteenth place starter Gerald Curry rounded out the top five.

It was time for the Class Too Tough Too Tame, the IMCA Stock Cars 20 lap feature event presented by Central Finanical Group. Justin Luinenburg jumped out to the early race lead however just lap was scored the caution came out not once but twice. First caution was for Todd Shute, driving Derek Green's car, spinning in turn four and the second one was for Matt Baker spinning un turn three. Luinenburg was not fazed as held off challenges from Troy Swearingen until the red flag came out on lap six. The red flag was for Devin Smith rolling over the turn three guard rail into the pit area, it all started when Joe Schmit slapped the wall exiting turn two before Smith made contact. Luinenburg had Swearingen and Jeff Larson on back bumper on the restart. Luinenburg held the lead until the caution came out on lap 14 for Shute spinning in turn three again. Larson took the lead away when Luinenburg made a slight bobble on lap fifteen. Larson lead was short lived as Jake Masters took the top spot away on seventeen. Masters went on to take is fourth win at 4/10 mile dirt oval. Larson, Shryock, Luinenburg, and Tyler Pickett finished second through fifth.

Final feature of the night was the IMCA Modifieds 20 lap feature presented by MaxYield SEED but before a lap was scored the caution came out. The caution was for Clint Hatlestad spun in turn four with Aaron Benson made contact. Todd Shute started on the pole and jumped out to the race lead holding off Austin Wolf  before a pulling away just a little bit. The caution came out on lap five when Nick Meyer spun in turn one and two. Shute held off Jeremy Mills and Wolf on the restart and and pulled away. Shute went on to take the $2,000 to win feature win. Points Leader Jeremy Mills finished second, Austin Wolf was third, tenth place starter Brandon Beckendorf was fourth and twelfth place starter Billy Kendall III was fifth.

Final Checkered Flag was displayed by Flagman Logan Kelly at 11:37pm. After getting out of the Kossuth County Fairgrounds and make the drive home, I officially pulled in the driveway at 2:16am. It was nice to meet up with Logan Kelly and Track announcer Chad Meyer, a little bit before the night got rolling. Thanks to Scott Schultze and Ron Reefer for keeping racing going strong at the Kossuth County Speedway, I had fun and will try to make a trip again.
