Bennett Claims Hobby Stock Win on RBF Electric Night

After Mother Nature decided to change her mind the week before at the Karl Auto Group of Marshalltown Speedway, the speedway roared back to action on RBF Electric Night at the Races. The night featured $400 to win IMCA Hobby Stocks. Also Racing was the IMCA Modifieds, IMCA Stock Cars, IMCA Sport Mods, IMCA Mod Lites and IMCA Sport Compacts.

It was a beautiful summer night of racing on the quarter mile high banks as there was multiple lanes that was very competitive all night and even the race track had a little character. One Hundred and six race cars signed in the pits to tame the high banks on RBF Electric Night. Intense battles through out the night including two close finishes at the line. Final checkered flag came out at 10:30pm.

First feature like normal at Marshalltown is the 15 lap feature event for the IMCA Mod Lites. Steven Kennedy grabbed the race lead early and never looked back in the feature that went green-to-checkered. Kennedy did have to fend off Josh May early before pulling away and only having lap traffic slow him down. Kennedy took the win, Randy Bryan worked his way from seventh to finish second. Austin Gray, Jason Masengarb and Jacob Copley rounded out the top five.

Big 8 Tyre Center IMCA Sport Mods 20 lap feature event saw the caution come out almost as soon as the race started when Boe Jenkins spun in turn two. Will Wolf jumped out to the lead before the first lap was scored the caution came out again when Chance Titus spun in turn two. Another restart saw another caution when Jessiah Taylor and Michael Miller spun in turns one and two. Wolf wrestled the lead from veteran Vern Jackson on the restart and then received challenges from Travis Peterson before the caution came out again on lap three for Steve McLaughlin in turn two. Wolf appeared to be determined hold on the top spot and did so until another caution on lap seven for Miller in turn two. Wolf lost the lead on lap ten to Kyle Olson and it appeared Kyle Olson was going to take the feature win but just before a caution came out on lap sixteen, cousin Tony Olson snuck by for the race lead. The caution was for Colton Nelson spinning un turn two. Tony Olson held off Kyle Olson to take the feature win and hard charger. Kyle Olson finished second, Wolf was third, Peterson was fourth and Kaylin Lopez was fifth.

Next on the speedway was the IMCA Hobby Stocks 20 lap feature event. Mark Hidlebaugh led the first lap before Darin DeZwarte took the top spot away on lap two. Solomon Bennett grabbed the lead away on lap three and led until seventh place starter John Watson took the lead away on lap six. Watson looked to be heading on to the win until Bennett, Bradly Graham and Seth Butler reeled Watson back in as lap traffic started to slow him down. Watson on top and Bennett on the bottom battled for the race lead again. The caution came out on lap 16 when Briar Kriegel and Ben Newhouse got together in turn one. Watson and Bennett made slight contact on the restart allowing Bennett to take the race lead and Watson heading pit side. Bennett outdueled Graham to the finish line to take the win by the margin of .093 seconds. Butler was third, Eric Knutson was fourth and Cored VanDerWilt was fifth.

Steve Meyer led the first six laps for the Drury Automotive & Truck Repair IMCA Stock Cars 20 lap feature event. Jay Schmidt was chasing him and finally on lap seven, Schmidt took the lead away from Meyer. Schmidt appeared to fending off any challenge from Meyer until lap traffic became a factor. The only caution came out on lap 18 when Schmidt got sideways because of a lap car forcing him to spin and collect Meyer. That handed the lead over to Miciah Hidlebaugh. Dallon Murty took the race lead away on lap 19 but on the last lap Murty experienced mechanical issues allowing Hidlebaugh to take the feature win. Eleventh place starter Jeff Wollam work his way through the field to finish second. Michael Jaennette finished third, Scott Rice was fourth and Mike Goldsberry was fifth.

Bakersfield, California's Ethan Dotson grabbed the early lead in the Tire Demon by Love Tap IMCA Modifieds 20 lap feature event. The only race caution came out on lap two when Tyler Writjes spun in turn two, Andrew Kinser and Brint Hartwick spun in turn four. Dotson held off Garrett Wilson, Dallon Murty and Ronn Lauritzen on the restart. Lauritzen worked his way into second and set his sights on getting by Dotson for race lead in which he would do on lap eight. Lauritzen looked to be take the win fending off challenges from Murty but Murty outdueled Lauritzen to the finish line to take the win. The margin of victory was .178 seconds. Fourteenth place starter Jimmy Gustin, Gat Leytham and Cory Sauerman rounded out the top five.

Final feature of the night was the 15 lap IMCA Sport Compacts feature event. Noah Beenken in a new car grabbed the race lead early fending off Mark Smith and then Tyler Fiebelkorn. The race saw the red flag come out on lap six when John Gill went for a tumble in turn two, Gill climbed from the car okay.
