Third time was the charm as it was a very beautiful night at the high banked quarter mile. One hundred and forty six cars signed in the back including 37 Super Later Models. A Big Thanks has to go out to Judy DeFrance Gustin and Kathy Link for all the hard work making sure no driver went home with just money but contingencies. The fans even got prizes and gifts thanks to along list of sponsors. The night took a little longer to complete but the final checkered flag waived at 11:55pm.
First feature of the night was the IMCA Hobby Stocks 20 lap feature event, Joren Fisher out wrestled Ben Newhouse for the race lead early. Fisher fought of pressure from Seth Janssen before getting a little separation until a caution came out on lap 12. The caution was for Kaitlyn Schuring and Shane Palmer in turn two. Fisher held of Eric Knutson and Jacob Floyd on the restart and refused to lose. The caution came out again on lap seventeen when Kyle Parizek and Calvin Dhondt got together in turn two. Fisher managed the last three laps just enough to take the feature win. Knutson finished second, Floyd was third, Janssen in fourth and Graham in fifth.
As the field was coming to green in the Big 8 Tyre Center IMCA Sport Mods 20 lap feature, Taylor Bass, Jeremiah Reed and Rayce Mullen get together in turn four. Kyle Olson grabbed the race lead on the following restart but Brayton Carter took the lead away just prior to the caution on lap three. The caution was for Matt Beerbower in turn four. Carter held off Kyle Olson on the restart but seventh place starter Logan Anderson worked his way up around Kyle Olson and then set his sights on the race lead. Anderson got by Carter on lap eight and managed the late race lap traffic to take the feature win. Carter came home second, Tony Olson worked his way from eighth to finish third. Izac Mallicoat and Matt Avila was fourth and fifth.
Next on the speedway was the Hoker Trucking SLMR East Series Late Models for the Dale DeFrance Memorial 44 lap feature event. Tad Pospisil grabbed the lead early but received several challenges from Jake Neal, Jeff Tharp and Jason Hahne early. Pospisil held on to the race lead through a pair of cautions. First race caution on lap seven for Chris Spieker going off the top side of turns one and two. Next caution was on lap ten for Jeff Larson spinning on the front stretch. Neal pressure Pospisil and ultimately took the race lead away on lap 14. Neal pulled away and looked to be heading on the fairly easy victory but lap traffic slowed him down allowing Tharp, Luke Goedert and Andy Eckrich to reel him down. Goedert grabbed the race lead briefly on lap 39 and 40 but Neal use a lap car to regain the lead on lap forty one. Neal held off Goedert, Tharp and Andy Eckrich to take the feature win. Goedert came home second. Andy Eckrich, Joel Callahan and Tharp rounded out the top five. Charlie McKenna, Bill Leighton, Pospisil, eighteenth place starter Justin Kay and seveenth place starter Matt Ryan rounded out the top ten.
Dave Atcher led the first lap of the Drury Automotive & Truck Repair IMCA Stock Car feature event before Michael Jaennette took the race lead over. Jannette led until Damon Murty took the lead away on lap six. The caution came out on lap eight for Todd Reitzler in turn four. Just like the Sport Mods, the Tire Demon by Love Tap IMCA Modifieds 20 lap feature saw caution as the field was coming to green when several cars got together in turn four. Jake McBirnie outdueled Jacob Murray for the race lead. McBirnie was very smooth out front as Murray got passed by Joel Rust, Rust started to challenge McBirnie but could make the pass. The caution came out again on lap 12 when Robert Moore spun in turn two. McBirnie held off Rust and eleventh place starter Tim Ward on the restart but another caution for Moore spinning in turn two on lap 17. The final caution came out on lap 18 when Austin Kuehl spun in turn one. McBirnie held off Rust and Ward to take the feature win. Rust, Ward, fifteenth place starter Jeff Aikey and Gat Leytham rounded out the top five.
Final feature of the night was the Karl Chevrolet Dirt Truck Series 20 lap feature event. This was a make-up date for their May race cancellation. Todd Cooney, driving Bryan Spangler's truck, grabbed the race lead early meanwhile Shawn Cooney worked his way into second when Jeff Johnson came to a stop in turn one. Todd Cooney held off Shawn Cooney and Rick Clark on the restart and pulled away. The caution came out one more time on lap fourteen when Dennis Plain and Shonn Mapes got together on the front stretch. Todd Cooney got a great restart and went on to take the feature win. Mapes worked his way back through the field in six laps to finish second, Shawn Cooney came home third, Clark was fourth and Lucas Richardson was fifth.
Next Friday August 12th is Bob Harris Enterprises Night at the Races featuring a $1,000 to win for the Big 8 Tyre Center IMCA Sport Mods.
