Guss, Wilkinson, Meyer, Christians and Gustin Super National Champs

Well now that the regular season is over for the most part its time for the fall specials to begin and the first of the big fall specials is the 28th IMCA Speedway Motors Super Nationals at the Boone Speedway in Boone, IA. For 6 straight nights racing action with over 800 cars signed in with the goal to be named Super National Champion.

Monday September 6th
It was all about the IMCA Deery Brothers Summer Series and the IMCA Late Models crowning their Super Nationals Champion meanwhile the IMCA Hobby Stocks qualified 10 cars for each the inside and middle rows for their super nationals feature on saturday and the IMCA Sport Mods qualified 10 cars for the inside row for saturday's feature. The Sport Mods would also take part in their Arnold Motor Supply Race of Champions Qualifers.

The IMCA Late Models saw 43 competitors take to the track for the super nationals. In heat race action, Sam Halstead would have his night come to an end as he would roll his car in turn 1, he would climb from the car okay. Just before the late model b features mother nature would give the drivers a surprise as the rain came down and cause them to take 40 minutes to work on the track to get it raceable.

In the 50 lap feature though it would be interesting because before they would get one lap completed they would have a caution as Charlie McKenna, Jeremiah Hurst and Tyler Bruening would spin in turn 4. When they got going Terry Neal would jump out to the race lead from his pole position. The next race caution would come out on lap 3 when Jeff Aikey would stop on the frontstretch. On the restart, Neal would have Craig Roberts, Nick Most, Boone McLaughlin and Bobby Hansen right behind him. Neal and the field would complete another lap only to see the yellow flag come out on lap 4 this time for Craig Jacobs would spin in turn 4. A lap later another caution would come out when Mike Garland would stop on the frontstretch.

Then we would see another 14 laps completed before our next caution on lap 19 for debris in turn 4, the debris came from Neal's machine as Neal was passed by McLaughlin before the yellow came out so McLaughlin was now the new leader. On this restart, McLaughlin would have Ray Guss Jr and Josh Most on his back bumper. On Lap 25 another caution would come out this time for McLaughlin amd Most getting together in turns 3 & 4, this would send both drivers to the pits, McLaughlin would return so since we lost our leader the race would now restart as if we had no leader with Guss and Kevin Sather restarting in the lead. Guss would take control though right away.

The next caution came out on lap 29 when Jon Passick would stop on the backstretch. Guss would continue to set pace but would see 4 more cautions on the night, first one on lap 35 for debris in turn 2, second one on lap 37 for Jason Rauen rolling in turns 1 & 2 and Boone McLaughlin would spin out in turn 1, Rauen was okay, third one on lap 39 for Tyler Bruening and Jon Passick in turn 3 and then the final one on lap 43 when Joel Callahan, Mike Garland and Bobby Hansen would get together in turn 4. Guss would not let them faze him as he would go on to his 2nd straight Super Nationals Championship adding to his accomplishments for the week, he was crowned the 2010 IMCA Late Model National Championship and clinched the 2010 Deery Brothers Summer Series Championship just by signing in to Boone on Monday.
