There would be great racing action all night long with three, four and at some points five wide racing. On this night the speedway officials were remembering a former promoter at the Marshalltown Speedway, Cliff Chambers with the annual memorial race meaning the Nostalgia Cars would also be on hand.
In the Nostalgia cars ten lap feature the caution would fly before a single lap would be completed but when the race got going it was John Schroyer taking command. Schroyer would continue to lead until lap 7 when Josh Zieman would make the pass for the lead. Zieman would hold off challenges from Schroyer to take the win and with Schroyer taking second. Pudge Grabill was third, Jim Anderson was fourth and Craig Drake was fifth.
O’Reilly Auto Parts Mod Lites feature would see Joel Huggins take lead early and appeared to be going on to the win until the caution came out on lap 12. Huggins would have Mike Morrill and Andy Hennigar right behind him on the restart. Huggins, Morrill and Hennigar would engage in three wide racing and came off turn four on the last lap that way. Morrill would be credited the win as Huggins would break and end up eighth. Finishing Morrill was Hennigar, Randy Bryan, Josh May and Dusty Masolini.
Merv Chandler would lead from to start to finish in the IMCA Sport Compact feature that would end up going green-to-checkered. David Moorman, John Gill, Justin Tharp and Toby Denning rounded out the top 5.
In the Big 8 Tyre Center IMCA SportMods feature it was Jared Van Deest leading lap one but Brett Lowry would get on by on lap two to take the lead. Lowry would be chased down by Gaitlin Leytham and Jenae Gustin that would make a three car battle for the lead. Leytham would make the pass on lap 13 to take the lead from Lowry. Leytham would go on and take the win in the feature that would go green-to-checkered for 15 laps. Lowry, Gustin, Scott Davis and Eric Elliott would finish second through fifth.
Toby K’s Hideaway IMCA Hobby Stocks feature would see Brice Udelhoven take the early lead however just after the halfway point the caution would come out and Udelhoven would experience mechanical issues forcing him to the infield. That would hand the lead over Eric Stanton, Stanton would encounter three and four wide racing in the remaining six laps. Donavon Nunnikhoven would take the lead and go on to the win. Scott Pippert would start eleventh and finish home second. Stanton settled for third, Austin Luellen was fourth and Brandon Brinton was fifth.
The Mike’s Hard Lemonade IMCA Stock Cars lived up too its nickname of the class “Too Tough to Tame” once again and this week it was only two different race leaders but it was three, four and five wide racing that would excite the crowd. Andy Bryant would lead the first thirteen laps but Brian Irvine, who started tenth would get up there and race Bryant for the lead. Irvine would make the move and the pass to take the lead on lap 14 and shortly after the caution came out. Irvine would get an awesome restart and go on and take the win. Steve Meyer, Bryant, Damon Murty and Tracy Gienger round out the top 5.
The final feature of the night was Meskwaki Bingo Casino Hotel IMCA Modifieds feature and it saw Jimmy Gustin the lead and look to be cruising on to the win but then the only race caution came out on lap 14 bunching the field back up. Gustin wouldn’t let that bother him as he would go on and take the win with Cayden Carter, Adam Larson, David Brown and Kyle Brown would end up finish second through fifth.
Next Friday Night will be the start of three nights in seven days as the Marshalltown Speedway will have Scout Night, where any boy or girl scout in uniform gets in free, hot laps at 6:45 pm and racing at 7:30 pm.
Then on Tuesday May 22nd the IMCA Deery Brothers Summer Series invades the Speedway with IMCA SportMods, Mod Lites and Karl Chevrolet Dirt Trucks with hot laps at 6:15pm and racing at 7pm. That will be followed up with Evening Optimist Club Night on Friday May 25th where any kid will be admitted free and will receive a free pop, hot dog and popcorn with a Candy Toss at Intermission with hot laps at 6:45 pm and racing at 7:30 pm.
