By Jeremy Fox
Webster City, Iowa (May 31st, 2014) – Saturday Night at the Hamilton County Speedway saw some great three and four wide racing on Casey's General Stores Night at he Races. A total of 88 cars sign in to race on the 1/2 mile oval and they had to wait out a couple of rain relays.
Matt Oberhelman led the first two laps in the Oberhelman Motorsports IMCA Sport Compacts Feature before Danny Sassman Jr took it away. Sassman led until the only race caution came out when Ryan Bryant lost a tire in turn one. Then a rain shower came and after a short delay it was back to racing and it was Oberhelman taking the lead back. Oberhelman went on to take his 1st career win over Sassman, Bryce Summers, Kalan Guthrie and Nick Hogan.
The Conley's Trucking IMCA Sport Mods feature was caution filled and before one lap was completed the caution came out when a couple of cars got together in turn two. On the restart, Rick Fasse took the lead and he led until the caution came out again on lap three this time because of a rear spring on the front stretch that came from Fasse's car. Ty Griffith took the lead on the restart but four laps later the caution came out again. Aaron Benson would take the lead away from Griffith and go on to take the win despite a pair of cautions on lap 12 and 15. Carter VanDenBerg, Matt Lettow, Griffith and Jared Van Deest rounded out the top five.
Victor and Nathan Palmateer started on the front row in the Casady Brothers Implement IMCA Hobby Stock feature. But the caution came out before a lap was completed when Wade Gilliland, Matt Mundt and Myles Michehl got together. When the race got going it was Nathan Palmateer leading the first lap but Jeff Lyon took the lead way on lap two. Shortly after the Palmateer's saw their night expire. Lyon lead until late in the race when Randy Embrey was able to his way back through the field after going to the tail for a flat tire early in the race. Embrey took the win, Craig Graham got by Lyon for second. Matt Mundt and Jeremy Morriss was fourth and fifth.
Mary Ann's Speciality Foods Stock Cars 18 lap feature saw Jared Daggett lead the first seven laps before the only race caution came out for Vince Loewen in turn four. On the restart, Daggett saw John Campbell sneak on by. Campbell's lead was short lived as Lance Deal took the top spot away on lap ten. Deal lost the lead to Jason Minnehan on lap 13. Minnehan went on to take his second consecutive win. Campbell was 2nd, Steve Meyer was 3rd, Deal was 4th and Jim Mitchell was 5th.
Chalfant Plumbing and Neighbors Heating and Cooling IMCA Late Models 20 lap feature saw Al Johnson take the lead but it was Jeremy Grady taking it away on lap two. Grady lead until lap four when he experienced mechanical issues that gave the lead to Todd Cooney. Cooney had pulled away until Ryan Griffith found a groove to his liking and chase down Cooney just before the caution on lap 16 for Johnson on the backstretch. Griffith took the lead away from Cooney on restart to take his 1st win of the season at his hometown track. Jason Hahne, Darrel DeFrance and Rookie John Emerson finished third through fifth respectively.
Final feature of the night was the George White Chevrolet IMCA Modifieds 20 lap feature and it saw several heavy hitters there to get the car dialed in for the Hawkeye Dirt Tour Special. After three cautions before including having the initial start called back it was Devon Havlik taking the lead. Havlik continued to lead until the caution came out on lap nine for Greg Elliott in turn three. Havlik saw Scott Olson and Adam Larson on his back bumper. Larson took the lead away on lap 11 and went on take his 2nd win of the season at Webster City. Mark Elliott founded his way to the runner-up spot and tried to get by Larson but fell short.
