Auringer Wins the 21st Annual Hogan Memorial

Normally Sunday Nights I am at Stuart International Speedway but on Sunday the Benton County Speedway had the 21st Annual Hogan Memorial so the plan was to take the night off and head east instead of west for the night to support the Hogan Family. The race remembers Dick and Janet Hogan, Scott Hogan (driver of the number 33D IMCA Modified) parents which i have gotten to know Scott over the years and never like to miss this event so thanks to Chuck Vanderheiden at Stuart, i got the night off there to help support the race but was put to work by Promoter Mick Trier.

First feature of the night was the 15 lap BCS MicroMods feature and after the initial start was called back it was AJ Whitten grabbing the lead. The caution came out on lap five for Dallon Murty on the back stretch. Whitten continued to pace the field but when the final caution came out on lap 12 for Buster Pate forcing a three lap dash it was Don Erger taking the lead away. Erger went on to take his 4th in at BCS  ahead of Whitten, Jeff Davis, Scott Beaty and Tristan Cordes.

In the 18 lap IMCA Northern SportMods feature event, it was Kyle Olson wrestling the lead away from Dakoda Sellers and Dawn Krall on lap one. Olson saw cousin Tony work his way to second and begin the battle Olson battle for the lead however the caution came out on lap four for Lucas Lundry in turn four and then again on the restart for Dave Burrell in turn two. Kyle Olson continued to hold off cousin Tony but cautions came out again on laps seven, eight and nine. Kyle Olson was not letting any caution bother him and that became to be true when the final race cautions came out on lap 13 and 14 as Kyle Olson went on to take the win. Danny Dvorak took second away from Tony Olson. Sam Wieben and Ryan King was fourth and fifth.

Nathan Wood started on the pole of the IMCA Stock Cars 20 lap feature event and he took full advantage by leading lap one but shortly after the caution came out when Darin Duffy went around in turn four. Wood had to contend with Scooter Dulin and John Oliver Jr on the restart. Oliver took the lead away from Wood on lap three and three laps late the caution came out again this time for Chris Luloff in turn four. Oliver and the field saw the caution come out three times on lap nine forcing a single file restart the rest of the way. Oliver continued to lead despite having to hold off many challenges through the remaining laps but it was Oliver taking the checkered first. Kevin Rose was second, Phil Holtz was third, Duffy came back through the field to finish fourth and Scott Pippert was fifth.

Bill Bonnett and Jacob Floyd led the field to the green in the 16 lap IMCA Hobby Stock feature but it was Adam Petzrelka grabbing the lead. The first race caution came out on lap three for Brayton Boyer, Gabe Phelps and Joe Luethje getting together in turn four. Petzrelka contiuned to lead the way until lap nine when Nathan Ballard worked his way through the field to take the lead away. Ballard saw Brett Vanous follow suit and it was Vanous taking the lead away on lap 12. Ballard though edged out Vanous on laps 14 and 15 but Vanous beat Ballard to the Checkered flag to take the win by a foot. Brian Happel came across in third but was disqaulifed in post race tech that moved up Petzrelka to third, Bill Bonnett to fourth and Zach Swanson to fifth.

Vern Jackson and Joe Docekal redrew the front row for the 50 lap Hogan Memorial feature for the IMCA Modifieds but before a lap was completed Patrick Flanangan spun in turn one. When the race got going it was Docekal taking the top spot which he held until the caution came out on lap 14 for Devon Havlik in turn three. Hunter Marriott was running second at the time and on the restart got a great restart which allowed him to take the lead away from Docekal. The caution came out for Kyle Strickler sitting in turn two after contact from Docekal. Marriott now had JD Auringer on his back side but the caution came out just after the completion of lap 16 when Jerry Luloff spun in turn four. Marriott saw the caution come out again on laps 23 and 24 but he would continue to lead when the halfway pit stop came. Auringer, Kyle Brown, Richie Gustin, Zach Less, Troy Cordes, Vern Jackson, Darin Duffy, Cayden Carter and Scott Hogan was the top ten at halfway.

Marriott continued to lead until Auringer finally found away to take over the lead on lap 29. Auringer continued to lead and Brown worked his way to second. The caution came out on lap 36 but Auringer was not bother as he went on to take his 3rd Hogan Memorial win and two in a row. Gustin was second, Brown fell back to third. Carter and Jackson rounded out the top five. Duffy, Hogan, Marriott, Josh Gilman and Jeff Waterman finished sixth through tenth respectively.
