After spending Wednesday, Thursday and Friday at the races and
Saturday being the 4th of July i was unsure if i was going to races but i
made the decision about 3pm in the afternoon to head to the town of
Independence.
Indee was starting early this week to be done for
the city fireworks and for the most part it was a great night of racing.
One feature got put in "time out" as i would say because they were
struggling to get a lap in more on that in a bit. 112 cars signed to
race the Buchanan County Fairgrounds oval.
First feature of the
night was Burco Sales IMCA Stock Cars 15 lap feature event. Colt Mather
started on the pole and he took advantage by taking the lead early.
Mather saw the caution come out on lap two for Scott Hampton in turn two
but Mather was not going to let that bother him. The final race caution
came out on lap eight for Jarod Weepie and Jason Hocken getting
together in turn three. Mather held off challenges from Phil Holtz and
Chris Luloff to take the win. Holtz was second, Justin Temeyer took
third away from Luloff and Norman Chesmore was fifth.
Dawn Krall
led the opening lap of the Tenacity Graphics IMCA SportMods 15 lapper
but Kevin Hurst grabbed the lead away on lap two just before the first
race caution that resulted in a pile up in turn four. Hurst continued to
lead but saw the caution come out on lap six for Nate Smith in turn
four. Hurst pulled away and appeared to be heading on to the win but
with three laps to go, Hurst spun in turn four all by himself giving the
lead over to the "Montour King" Ryan King. King held off challenges
from Lucas Lundry, Dakoda Sellers and a hard charging Tony Olson to take
the win. Lundry took second, Olson was third, Sellers was fourth and
Kevin Robinson was fifth.
Next out on to the track was the Big
Daddy Chassis IMCA Hobby Stocks 15 lap feature event but they struggled
to get a single lap completed so after four cautions before lap was
completed the call was made by track promoter Dana Benning to park the
hobbys in the infield. They would be placed as the final feature before
the RCZ Indee Cars.
Budweiser IMCA Late Models 25 lap feature was
up next on to the speedway and it was Scotty Welsh taking the early
lead but Jon Passick took the top spot away on lap three. Passick
looked to be heading on to take the win but a caution came out on lap 21
for Welsh in turn two. Passick now saw Ryan Dolan and John Emerson
right there. Passick held on until the final turn as Dolan took the win
away from Passick. Travis Smock came home in third, Andy Nezworski was
fourth and Tyler Droste was fifth.
Ryan Maitland led the first
three laps of the Performance Bodies IMCA Modifieds feature before the
caution came out first for Josh Sherbon in turn four. Maitland spun on
the restart in turn two that handed the lead over to Jason Morehouse.
Morehouse lost the lead to Tony Snyder. Snyder saw Brian Irvine take the
lead away on lap six. Irvine went on to take the win over Snyder, Zach
Less, Troy Cordes and JD Auringer.
The Hobby Stocks then went
back to the race track to complete their feature and it was Jeremiah
Wilson grabbing the lead but the caution came again just after two laps
was completed for Mike Wilson in turn four. Wilson continued to lead the
way but then a pair of cautions on lap 14, 1st for Jim Ball in turn
three and then on the restart for Wilson going off the top of turn one.
That gave the lead to Shawn Kuennen and Kuennen held on for the win
ahead of Justin Lichty, Billy Rhoades, Benji Irvine and Rod Grother.
Final
race of the night was the RCZ Indee Cars and it was Tristan Cordes
leading from start-to-finish in the 12 lapper. Buster Pate, Jeff Davis,
Don Erger and Jason Hard.
