Champions Crowned as Keokuk County Expo Wrapped Up the 2020 Season

Several people had tried me to get down to the Keokuk County Expo in Sigourney to take pictures and write a blog but with the Yankee Dirt Track Classic in Farley and the Prelude to Super Nationals in Boone as options for racing on Saturday. After carefully thinking, I decided I would make the 174 mile round trip (87 miles one way) to Keokuk County Expo in Sigourney for the second night of the 2 Day Figure 8 Special sponsored by Ulrich Meat Market of Pella.

A good field of cars signed in, the racing action was exciting and intense all night long as the 2020 Season wrapped up at the Keokuk County Expo Grounds located on the east end of Sigourney. Track Champions were crowned in the Trucks, Cruisers, Pro-Stock, Stock and Open Classes. Champions was Dave "Tiny" Sellers (Trucks), Mark Schuring / Jerret Utterback (Cruisers), Corey Danner (Pro-Stock), Jared Gann (Stock) and Jesse Sanders (Open).

First races of the night was the Points Races where champions were crowned. Stock Point Race was first and Ashton Hartwig took the checkers first ahead of champion Jared Gann. In the Pro-Stock Points Race, Corey Danner took the race win along with the track title. Tim McKee won the Trucks Points Race but Dave Sellers took the title. Jesse Sanders won the Open Points Race to polish off the Track title. Mark Schuring / Jerret Utterback won the Cruisers Points Race.

Trucks were up for their 12 lap feature event first but before a lap was complete the caution came for debris in the figure 8. The debris was a driveshaft that came off of Michelle Keasling's truck. Tim McKee grabbed the early race lead fending off Dave Sellers. Sellers made the pass on McKee for the race lead on lap ten. Sellers held off McKee to take the feature win. McKee finished second, Bryan Stephenson was third, Deal Keasling was fourth a.nd Michelle Keasling was fifth

Before a lap was completed in the Front Wheel Drive 12 lap feature event, the caution came out when two corner tires were knocked on the racing surface in turns three and four. Brandon Kramer grabbed the lead when the race got going but it was short lived as on lap four, Kramer had a flat tire and then got spun in turn one by Mark Williams, Williams was sent to the pits for rough driving. That gave the lead over to Jeremy Williams but again the caution came out for debris on the front stretch. Dalton Sowers took the race lead away on lap five and went on to take the feature win. Greg Morse, driving Hailey Morse's car finished in the runner up spot. Jeremy Williams finished third, Megan Haynes was fourth and Kramer was fifth.

Carmen Pearson / Jason Brown spun on in turn two on the first lap of the 2 Man Cruisers 12 lap feature event forcing a complete restart. Bruce Kline / Danielle Kline wrestled the race lead from Preston Kline / Leroy Kline on the start. Bruce & Danielle Kline than had to fend of Mark Schuring  / Jerret Utterback and Laverne Lehman / Jacob Lehman until lap eight. Bruce Kline / Daniele Kline held off to take the feature win ahead of Deal Keasling / Cody Shermer, Bryan Stephenson / Isaac McKee, Jordan Hartwig / Jerry Moffitt and Laverne Lehman / Jacob Lehman.

Clayton Danner led from start to finish in the 12 lap Pro-Stock Figure eight feature event. Butch Lester wrestled his way to finish second on the last lap. Brian Sterling finished home in third, Trenton Witt was fourth and Jason Bringman was fifth.

In the Stock Figure 8 twelve lap feature event, it was Mark Schuring leading from start to finish and not even lap traffic was going to deny him the victory. Schuring crossed the line in first ahead of Travis Danner, Daryl Cavin, Dylan Danner amd Jarred Gann.

Final feature of the night was the Open Figure 8 class for 12 laps. Before a lap was scored the caution came out when Jacob Lehman spun in turn two. Lehman got his original spot back because of a complete restart. Lehman led the first lap before Jerrod Thompson took the top spot. Jesse Sanders worked his way up to second on lap two after choosing to go to the tail to make extra money. Thompson and Sanders than battle for the race lead with Thompson holding him off. Thompson took the checkers ahead of Sanders. John Watts, Aaron Molyneux and Lehman round out the top five.

The final checkered flag was displayed at 10pm to wrap up the 2020 Season at the Keokuk County Expo Race Track in Sigourney. They want you to keep your eye out about the racing schedule for next year.
