Mather Remains Perfect In Indee

Independence, Iowa (May 28th, 2022) - After losing last week's races to the victim of mother nature, it was back to action at the Independence Motor Speedway on Saturday Night for Weekly Points Night. It was Michael Pittman Memorial Night, a night to remember a competitor who lost his life in a work related accident on February 19th.

It was a picture perfect night to wrap up the month of May, that saw one hundred-six race cars sign into tame the 3/8 mile bank race track on the Buchanan County Fairgrounds. They were going two, three and a few times four wide during the night. The final checkered flag was displayed at 9:47pm.

Kinderknecht Takes Mod Lite Corn Belt Clash in MoTown

After a little help from mother nature this week the Karl Auto Group of Marshalltown Speedway saw some fantastic racing all night along on Friday night. The night featured $500 to win Big 8 Tyre Center IMCA Sport Mods and the IMCA STARS Mod Lite Corn Belt Clash. It also saw the first appearance of the Karl Chevrolet Dirt Trucks.

There was some great two, three and four wide racing on a beautiful night in late May. Toby Kruse, Jerry Vansickel and Dave Wolf did a great job getting the racing surface prepared and ready for seven classes of competition. First heat race went green at 7:30pm and the final checkered flag was displayed at 10:52pm.

One hundred-thirty nine cars signed in the back game with the IMCA Hobby Stocks leading the way with 29 followed by the Tire Demon by Love Tap IMCA Modifieds with twenty-seven. IMCA STARS Mod Lites had 21, nineteen Drury Automotive IMCA Stock Cars, eighteen Big 8 Tyre Center IMCA Sport Mods, fourteen IMCA Sport Compacts and eleven Karl Chevrolet Dirt Trucks.

First feature of the night was the IMCA STARS Mod Lite Corn Belt Clash 20 lap feature event. Jacob Copley and Rick Graves led the field the green but it was third place starter Jason Masgengarb getting by both of them to take the race lead. Masengarb held off Copley as Justin Kinderknecht worked his way from eighth to second on lap seven. Kinderknecht than began to challenge Masengarb for the race lead and on lap nine took the lead away. Kinderknect pulled away only too see the caution come out on lap 16 when Alex Eischeid spun in turn two. The red flag came out on the restart when Matthew Weiss went for a soft tumble in turn two. Kinderknecht fended off challenges Masengarb and Randy Bryan on the retart to take the win. The win pocked $500 for Kinderknecht in the first of three nights of the IMCA STARS Mod Lite Corn Belt Clash. Bryan finished second, Masengarb was third, tenth place starter Joel Huggins was fourth and Austin Gray was fifth.

Karl Chevrolet Dirt Truck Series was up next for their 20 lap feature event, in their first of three appearance on the high banks. Shonn Mapes led the first lap before Bryan Spangler took the lead away on lap two. Spangler worked the top side of the speedway with Mapes running third fending off Bill Davis Jr and Jeff Johnson until the caution came out on lap ten. The caution was for Shaun Clinger in turn two. Johnson worked his way to third and manage to claim the race lead on lap eleven but Spangler reclaim the lead on lap twelve. Spangler went on to become the fourth different Dirt Truck feature winner of the season, it was the second time this season however for the number seventeen truck as Rod Richards won in Boone a few weeks back. Johnson, Mapes, Shawn Cooney and Dennis Plain rounded out the top five.

Ryan Gillmore grabbed the early race lead in the Big 8 Tyre Center IMCA Sport Mods 20 lap feature event. Gillmore kept Brayton Carter and Travis Peterson behind him until the caution came out on lap eight when Steve McLaughlin spun in turn one. Carter took the race lead away on the restart, Gillmore continued to run second until seventh place starter Logan Anderson took that spot away on lap fourteen. Carter looked comfortable out until the caution came out on lap seventeen. Carter fended off Anderson and Gillmore on the restart but the caution came out again on lap nineteen when Thomas Woods in turn one. Carter held strong and went on to take the win over Anderson and Gillmore. Peterson and Vern Jackson finished fourth and fifth respectively.

IMCA Hobby Stocks 20 lap feature did not disappoint as their was a great three car battle up front for the first six laps. Tom Killen Jr grab the race lead receiving several challenges from Jake Nelson and Sam West, then Nelson and John Watson. Watson took the lead away on lap seven and was followed by Nelson. The first caution came out when Jake Nelson was spun in turn two on lap seventeen and then again on lap eighteen for Mitchell Thomas spun around in turn two. Watson held on to take the win ahad of West, Bradly Graham, Solomon Bennett and Seth Butler.

Jay Schmidt led the first four laps of the Drury Automotive & Truck Repair IMCA Stock Cars 20 lap feature event before Damon Murty took the spot away on lap five. Schmidt did not go away as he reclaimed the race lead on lap six just prior to the caution for Austin Evens, Scott Bailey and Jeff Byers in turn one. Schmidt led until lap nine when Murty got by Schmidt for the race lead. Michael Jaennette, Austin Kaplan and Kaden Reynolds also got by Schmidt before the caution came out on lap twelve for Josh Capalla in turn two. Capalla was mistakenly sent to the infield. Murty held off Jaennette and Reynolds to take the feature win. Jaennette and Reynolds finished second and third. Kaplan and Tyler Pickett was fourth and fifth.

Kolby Sabin grabbed the early lead in the IMCA Sport Compacts fifteen lap feature event. Sabin was followed by David Kimmel and Blake Driscol until lap seven when Kimmel took the lead away briefly. Sabin worked his away back around Kimmel on lap ten and went on to take the feature win. Kimmel, Blake Driscol, John Gill and Mark Smith rounded out the top five.

Final feature of the night was Tire Demon by Love Tap IMCA Modifieds 20 lap feature event. Paul Nagle wrestled the race lead away from fellow front starter Rod Clement early. The caution came out on lap three when Zack Rawlins and Kelsie Foley spun in turn four. Nagle held of Ronn Lauritzen on the restart but the caution came out again on lap five when Theodore Harrell spun in turn two. Nagle continued to lead until Johnathon Logue worked his way from sixth to the race lead on lap nine. Logue was followed by Tim Ward and those battled it out for the race lead. Ward pulled a slider exiting turn four to take the top spot away on lap eleven and Logue returned the favor in turn two on lap twelve to reclaim the lead. The caution came out shortly after when Harrell spun in turn four. One more caution slowed the event on lap 17 when Jimmy Cruise spun in turn two. Logue went on to take his first IMCA Modified feature win ahead of Ward, Nagle, Lauritzen and Dallon Murty.

Michehl Wins Flaws Memorial, Glover Wins Super Late Model Summer Series #1 at Hamilton County

Since Independence cancelled the races on Saturday after talking with drivers, fans, employee's because of the forecast of rain and cold temperatures to continue to linger the decision was made to cancel so that meant I had a free Saturday night to go racing. Options was back to Boone Speedway or Warren County Speedway or go somewhere new this season, Hamilton County Speedway or Keokuk County Fairgrounds in What Cheer for racing. Well at 2:30pm, the decision was make the trip up to the historic half mile in Webster City.

Karl Chevrolet Buick GMC Hamilton County Speedway officials moved the start time up because of the much cooler May temperatures and it out to be a smart decision. It was also the 2nd Annual Flaws Memorial Race, this is the second year of honoring Bob Flaws and the first year of honoring Dean Flaws. The Night also brought the first of the Super Late Model Summer Series presented by Jerry Goebel State Farm and the first visit of the season by the Karl Chevrolet Dirt Trucks.

The race track was a nice fast and slick track that saw One hundred-two cars sign in the back game including 22 Seneca Foundry USRA Stock Cars, 15 Super Late Models, 15 Stein Heating & Cooling USRA B-Mods, fourteen A1 Auto USRA Tuners, 13 Diamond in the Rough USRA Hobby Stocks, twelve Olsen Family USRA Modifieds and eleven Karl Chevrolet Dirt Trucks. Final checkered flag was displayed at 9:50p.

First feature of the night was the A1 Auto USRA Tuners 12 lap feature event. Fourth place Oliver Monson grabbed the race lead on lap one just before the caution came out for Alex Hayes and Gerald Ford on the front stretch. Monson continued to lead fending off Trent Reed, Jade Lange and Chris Wilson until lap eight when Reed made the move and took the top spot away when Monson started to have mechanical issues. The caution came out again on lap nine for Chris Eddington in turn two. Reed held off Monson on the restart before Monson exited pit side. Reed went on to take the feature win ahead of Jade Lange, Tayla Lange, Ryan Sams and Wilson.

Before a single lap was completed in the Diamond in the Rough USRA Hobby Stocks 15 lap feature event, the caution came out for Daniel Ayers in turn two after contact from  Austin Hoeft. Dustin Gulbrandson jumped out to the race lead on the restart and after fending off challenges from Bryce Sommerfeld got a little separation before the caution came out on lap eight when Nathan Parkhill spun in turn two. Gulbrandson now had to contend with Riley Crimmins and Scott Dobel on the restart and before they could make it back to the start finish line to complete another lap the caution came out when Riley Crimmins spun in turns three and four. Gulbrandson held off Dobel and tenth place starter Jeremy Crimmins on the final restart to take the feature win. Dobel finished second, Jeremy Crimmins was third, Brandon Nielsen was fourth and Roger Haupt was fifth.

Karl Chevrolet Dirt Truck Series 18 lap feature event was next on to the speedway. Bill Davis Jr out wrestled Rick Clark for the race lead early, "Peanut" Dennis Plain grabbed second early from Clark as well. Davis Jr got several challenges from Plain before the caution came out on lap four when Justin Schroeder spun in turn two. Davis Jr fend off Plain and Clark on the restart again but tenth place starter Shawn Cooney worked his way up to take second on lap six and then set his sights on challenging for the race lead. Cooney attempts failed as Davis fend them off and on lap eleven, Cooney clipped an infield tire forcing him to slow down in turn one bringing out the caution. Two more cautions came out on lap 15 for Plain in turn two and then Shaun Clinger in turn two on lap seventeen, that one first a green-white-checkered 2 lap dash. Davis Jr continued to lead through those cautions and held on to lead all the laps to be the third different Dirt Truck feature winner this season. Clark finished second, Jeff Johnson finished third after having mechanical issues in the heat race. Schroeder, Plain and Shonn Mapes round out the top five.

In the Stein Heating & Cooling USRA B-Mods 16 lap feature event, it was hometown driver Ty Griffith grabbing the race lead early. Griffith fended off challenges from Brandon Toftee and Jason Bass early. The caution came out on lap three for Clayton Bohner in turn three. Griffith got a great restart but the caution came out again after lap four was scored when Mitch Frakes spun in turn one after incidental contact from Hunter Longnecker. Shaun Slaughter spun in turn two on the restart resulting in the caution to come out again. Griffith fended off Bass and Tyler Inman on the restart but the caution came out one more time on lap six when Bohner got into the wall in turn one and two. Griffith led the remaining laps to take the feature win ahead of Bass, Inman, Longnecker and Greg Elliott.

Devon Havlik and Kyle Brown led the field to green in the Olsen Family USRA Modifieds 15 lap feature event. Brown grabbed the lead early after fending off Josh Angst and Lance Mari early, Brown started to pull away and never look back in the feature going caution free. Brown took the feature win. Mari finished second, Havlik was third, Angst came home fourth and Dylan Thornton was fifth.

Up next was the Seneca Foundry USRA Stock Cars 25 lap feature in memory of Bob and Dean Flaws. Fort Dodge's Myles Michehl grabbed the lead early holding off Cody Nielsen. The caution came out on lap two when Todd Reitzler spun in turn three. Michehl held of Nielsen and Reid Keller on the restart. Another caution on lap eight for Todd Staley in turn two. Michehl continued to look strong out front, three more cautions came out on lap thirteen, seventeen and eighteen. Michehl was not to be denied as he went on to take his third feature win of the season in Webster City. Fourteenth place starter Pat Graham worked his way to a runner-up finish. Nielsen fell back to third, Heath Tulp was fourth and Mark Elliott was fifth.

Final feature of the night was the 20 lap Super Late Model Summer Series presented by Jerry Goebel State Farm event. Curtis Glover outduel outside front row starter Luke Goedert for the race lead. Glover fend off Goedert and Jason Hahne before pulling away for a short time. Hahne managed to get by Goedert and chased Glover back down.  Hahne challenged Glover for the race lead but couldn't get by as Glover hung on to take the feature win in the first of five nights of the Super Late Model Summer Series presented by Jerry Goebel State Farm. Remaining nights are June 11th, July 23rd, August 6th and August 27th for the Bill Rice Memorial. Goedert, Hahne, Josh Leonard and Jeff Tharp rounded out the top five.

Murty, Reynolds and Kilwine Among Winners on Midwest Liquid System Night at the Marshalltown Speedway

For the second time this week, racing action took to the high banked 1/4 mile Karl Auto Group of Marshalltown Speedway. It was a chilly spring night which started out cloudy but the sun peeked out just in time to see a beautiful sunset as the racing action was getting heated on the track. They went two, three and four wide through out the night with even some nearly making mistakes on a thin cushion.

It was Midwest Liquid System Night at the races and One hundred-two cars signed in including sixteen Outlaw Mini Mods powered by Drury Automotive and Truck Repair. IMCA Hobby Stocks had the most with twenty-five cars then IMCA Sport Mods with 17 entries, IMCA Stock Cars and IMCA Modifieds each at 15 entries and IMCA Mod Lites had 12 entries. The heats started right at 7:30p, Features took to the track at 8:34p and the final checkered flag waived at 10:02p.

First feature of the night was the 15 lap IMCA STARS Mod Lites feature event. Ben George led opening lap before Austin Gray took the top spot away on lap two. Gray continued to lead until seventh place starter Joel Huggins worked his way through the field to take the top spot away on lap five. Huggins led until lap eight when Randy Bryan took it away. Bryan started to pull away from Huggins and Gray until the only caution came out on lap 12 for Michael Mann in turn two. Bryan held on to win, Huggins finished second meaning after two races they are tied in points heading into next week. Gray finished third, Dustin Ford was fourth and George was fifth.

Next on to the speedway was the Outlaw Mini Mod Series powered by Drury Automotive and Truck Repair for their 12 lap feature event. Michael Bryant from Mason City led the first lap before Britt's Ben Kraus took the top spot away on lap two. Normally when Kraus takes the lead it means their is a race for second but not tonight as Glenville, Minnesota's Nathan Kilwine worked his way from eighth to the race lead on lap five. The caution came out on lap eight when Kaden Rice spun in turn two. Kilwine got a great restart fending off Kraus, Bryant and ninth place starter Kamdyn Haggard on the restart. Kilwine took the win ahead of Kraus, Haggard, Bryant and Dalton Faber. This was the first of three races this week as they race Boone on Saturday and their normal weekly track Stuart on Sunday.

Before a single lap was scored in the Big 8 Tyre Center IMCA Sport Mods 20 lap feature event, the caution came out twice. First time was for Charlie Stevens and Curt Smeins in turn two and on the restart, Aiden Webb in turn one. Vern Jackson wrestled the lead from Travis Peterson when the race finally got started and he led until the caution came out again on lap three when Jessiah Taylor spun in turn two. Kyle Olson took the race lead away on the restart just before another pair of cautions on lap four. Olson continued to lead even through one more race caution on lap seven to go on an take the win. Kaylin Lopez was second, Jenae Gustin was third, Travis Peterson was fourth and Sam Wieben was fifth.

Austin Mehmen and Sam West led the field to the green in the IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks 20 lap feature event but both spun in turn two forcing the caution to come out resulting in Mark Hidlebaugh and Eric Stanton to inherit the front row on the restart. Eric Stanton grabbed the race lead until John Watson made the move to take the lead away on lap three. Stanton did not go away as he grabbed the lead back on lap five when Watson slipped up, Eric Knutson also got by Watson for second. Stanton and Knutson ran first and second, Seth Butler entered the mix for the top spot as Watson exited pit side. Knutson took the race lead away on lap 12 from Stanton. The caution came out again on lap 17 for Hidlebaugh in turn two and then on the restart for Kaitlyn Schuring in turn two. Knutson held off Stanton and Butler on the restart, only to see the caution come out the final time on lap 18 when Briar Kriegel spun in turn two. Knutson went on to take the feature win, Stanton finished second. Butler, Bradly Graham and William Klosterman round out the top five.

Taylor Kuehl led the first two laps of the Drury Automotive and Truck Repair IMCA Stock Cars 20 lap feature event before sixth place starter Kaden Reynolds took the race lead on lap three. Reynold began to pull away as tenth place starter Dylan Thornton worked his way by Jeff Wollam and Kuehl for second on lap four. Reynolds and the field saw the caution come out only once on lap 12 when Kuehl spun in turn two resulting in Tyler Pickett and Troy Tabor to also spin out. Reynolds held off Thornton and Damon Murty on the restart. Reynolds went on to take his first Stock Car win at Marshalltown and his second of his career in his rookie season. Thornton was second, Steve Meyer nosed ahead of Wollam for third place Wollam in fourth. Michael Jaennette was fifth.

Final feature of the night was the Tire Demon by Love Tap IMCA Modifieds 20 lap feature event and it was all the "Game Changer" Dallon Murty leading from start to finish to take his first Modified win this season in Motown, his second win in the Modified at the hallowed high banks (won night one of the World Nationals) and his 2nd win of the season. Only caution came out on lap two when Rod Clement spun in turn four. Seventh place starter Jimmy Gustin came home second, Joel Rust was third, Dakota Sproul was fourth and Dustin Kroening was fifth.

O'Neal, Berry and Hollatz Claims Castrol FloRacing Night in America Wins in Motown

Karl Auto Group of Marshalltown Speedway saw the return of Super Late Models for the first time by a national touring series since the World of Outlaws Late Models Firecracker Jamboree on June 30th 1989. Yes the speedway has hosted other Super Late Model Series races at Marshalltown since then but I would consider them regional series (Corn Belt Clash, Hoker Trucking SLMR East Series, Malvern Bank SLMR West Series) since most of their races was or are in Iowa or near the Iowa border much like the old IMCA Deery Brothers Summer Series.

Past Super Late Model Series Races at Marshalltown
USAC Late Models : 1987 (July 3rd) - Billy Moyer ; 1988 (July 1st) - Larry Phillips.
World of Outlaw Late Models : 1989 (June 30) - Billy Moyer.
Corn Belt Clash : 2013 (August 13) - Jason Utter.
SLMR Late Models : 2019 Malvern Bank West (Tyler Bruening); 2021 Hoker Trucking East (Jeff Aikey).

Wednesday's Castrol FloRacing Night in America was a year in the making as Marshalltown was scheduled to be a part of the inaugural season last year on May 19th, 2021 however mother nature won that race that could not be rescheduled. So all the excitement was set to make sure Marshalltown was on the schedule of 2022 and on Wednesday night that arrived.

Super Late Models was $22,022 to win / $1,000 to start. Tire Demon by Love Tap IMCA Modifieds race for $1,000 to win along with being a Fast Shaft All-Star Invitational Qualifier, $750 to win for the Drury Automotive & Truck Repair IMCA Stock Cars. It was also a B&B Chassis All-Star Invitational Qualifier.

A Beautiful night that saw seventy-six cars in three classes from eighteen different states including 29 Castrol FloRacing Night in America Super Late Models. Tire Demon by Love Tap IMCA Modifieds saw twenty-four entries and Drury Automotive & Repair IMCA Stock Cars had 23 entries. There was fantastic racing all night long on a track that produced multiple lanes from the bottom to the top leaving only a razor-thin cushion. Final checkered flag waved at 10:25pm.

First feature of the night was the Castrol FloRacing Night in America Super Late Model 50 lap event. "The Reaper" Ryan Gustin from Marshalltown out wrestled the race lead from pole sitter Mike Marlar from Winfield, Tennessee. The caution came out shortly after lap one was scored when Chad Simpson spun in turn two and unfortunately Spencer Diercks had no where to go and made contact, both exited to the pits. Gustin continued to lead fending off Hudson O'Neal and Marlar on the restart.

Just as Gustin was getting a little separation the red flag came out as the field began lap nine, when Ricky Thornton Jr slide off the top of turn two resulting in a slow roll over on his roof. Thornton climbed from the car uninjured. Gustin again fended off O'Neal and Marlar on the restart, beginning to pull away. As Gustin was catching lap traffic, O'Neal reeled him and on lap 30, O'Neal pulled a clean slide job in turn three to take over the race lead, Gustin try to return it but could not grab the lead back. O'Neal nearly slipped up on the cushion in turn two allowing Gustin to race side-by-side down the backstretch.

O'Neal led the remaining laps to take the win ahead of FloRacing Night in America Late Model Points Leader Brandon Sheppard, who started seventh. Marlar fell back to finish third, Gustin slip back to fourth and sixteenth place starter "Turbo" Tyler Erb came home fifth. Sixth through tenth saw Tim McCreadie, Garrett Alberson, Chris Simpson, Bobby Pierce and Billy Moyer Jr. Quick Time was 13.758 by Marlar. Heat Winners was Marlar, Gustin and O'Neal. B-Feature winner was Devin Moran.

The Drury Automotive and Truck Repair IMCA Stock Cars 20 lap feature, a B&B Chassis All-Star Invitational Qualifier was next on the speedway. David Atcher led the first two laps before Chanse Hollatz took the race lead away on lap three. Hollatz was followed by Kaden Reynolds and eighth place starter Dallon Murty. Hollatz continued to pace the way until the caution came out on lap nine when Andrea McCain spun in turn two. Hollatz fended off Reynolds and Murty on the restart and held them off to claim the win. Reynolds, Murty, Jeff Mueller and Jeff Wollam rounded out the top five.

Tire Demon by Love Tap IMCA Modifieds 20 lap feature was the third and final feature of the night. "G-Money" Richie Gustin Jr grabbed the early race lead fending off Johnathon Logue but shortly after lap one scored the caution came out. The caution was for Ronn Lauritzen, Brandon Leeman, Dylan Thornton, Joe Beal and Ethan Robey in turn two. Gustin fend off Logue and Jake McBirnie and pulled away meanwhile sixth place Tom Berry Jr jumped in two second and set his sights on taking the lead away from Gustin. The caution came out for the second time on lap five when Jacob Murray and Rod Clement spin in turn four. Gustin lead but the caution came out again on lap eight when Mike McKinney got hung up on the edge of turn three and four. Gustin continued to lead until Berry Jr and Cayden Carter made a three car battle for the lead on lap 15. Carter edged them out to lead laps 15 and 16 before Berry Jr took the race lead over. Berry Jr went on to take the  feature win, a Fast Shaft All-star Invitational qualifier. Carter finished second, Gustin came home third, McBirnie was fourth and Tim Ward was fifth.

Tuttle and Jones Take Compact Features, Wauters Wins Again at Indee

Independence, Iowa (May 14th, 2022) - Saturday Night was Night 2 of the IMCA Speedway Motors Weekly Racing Series at the Independence Motor Speedway and it was absolute beautiful night for racing on the 3/8 mile banked oval on the Buchanan County Fairgrounds. The night featured the Waterloo Auto Parts Sport Compacts running two features. One hundred-three race cars signed in and the night wrapped up at 9:45pm.

First feature of the night was the Dominator Chassis IMCA Stock Cars 20 lap feature. Jason Hocken led lap one but last week's winner Cole Mather took the race lead away on lap two just before the first of four cautions over the next three laps. The first caution came out on lap two for Kevin Rose in turn three, the second caution was on lap three when Hocken went off the top of turn three. The final cautions was after lap four was scored, first when Dustin Vis went off turn three and then for Buck Swanson spinning in turn two. Mather held tough on the restarts and fended off Kaden Reynolds before pulling away, Reynolds tried to reel him back down. Mather went on to go back-to-back to start the season and take his 29th weekly win at Indee. Reynolds finished second, Vis came back to finish third. Tom Schmitt finished fourth and Jarod Weepie finished fifth.

Tony Olson started third but got by both front row starters Vern Jackson and Robert Patava to grab the early race lead in the Burco Sales IMCA Sport Mods 15 lap feature event. Tony Olson led all 15 laps in the caution free event to take his first in Indee this season, 32nd win in weekly competition in Indee. Brett Thomas, Kyle Olson, Cole Suckow and Brandon Tharp rounded out the top five.

After the initial start was called back twice in the Waterloo Auto Parts Indee Cars (Micro Mods) 12 lap feature, Thirteen year old Kolton Osborn jumped out to the race lead and never looked back. Osborn went on to take his first at Indee with Dale Schwamman in second, Chad Dugan finished third, Carson James started second but fell back to fourth and Matt Dugan was fifth.

Blake Driscol started in fifth in the first Waterloo Auto Parts Sport Compacts 12 lap feature event but by the end of lap one was in the lead. Pole started Jaice Tuttle did not go away as Tuttle took the race lead away on lap two. Tuttle and Driscol battled it out with Tuttle taking full advantage exiting turn two. Driscol's night came to an end when Nicole Miller seem to have something break forcing her to take a hard right in front of Driscol. Driscol made hard contact forcing the red flag to come out. Tuttle held off Trystin Belthuis and Chase Forey on the restart and Tuttle went on to take his first career win. Belthuis, Forey, Jordan and Keegan Miller was second through fifth respectively.

In Waterloo Auto Parts Sport Compacts 12 lap feature Two, Devin Jones from Mason City wrestled the race lead early from Steven Schmitz. Jones pulled away only to see the caution come out after lap four was scored when Tyler Mannion came to a stop on the front stretch. Jones held off Schmitz and Andrew Bieber on the restart and went on to take the feature win. Bieber grabbed second away from Schmitz, Schmitz settled for third. Jeremy Wheeler was fourth and Alex Lyness was fifth.

Quinton Miller grab the early lead of the Albert Auto IMCA Hobby Stocks 15 lap feature event ahead of Ryan Craven and Jim Ball Jr. Miller fend off several challenges from Ball before the caution came out on lap three and then again on the restart. Miller continued to lead until eleventh place starter Adam Streeter worked his way through the field to take the lead away on lap six. Shortly after the caution came out when Trenton Neuhaus makes contact with Miller in turn two. Streeter fend off Jim Ball Jr and Daniel Wauters off and appeared to be doing just a enough to take the feature win but the caution came out on lap 12 when Garrett Ball spun in turn four forcing a three lap dash. Streeter held off Wauters and Ball initial but Wauters was determined to go back-to-back. Streeter working the lower lane and Wauters working the top side, Wauters and Streeter were side-by-side exiting turn four. Wauters beat Streeter by a nose at the line to take his second win of the season. Streeter finished second, Jim Ball Jr was third, Dalton Weepie was fourth and Brett Vanous was fifth.

Mike Burbridge led the opening lap of the Performance Bodies IMCA Modifieds 20 lap feature before the caution came out when Patrick Flannagan spun in turn four. Troy Cordes got by Burbridge and Adam Shelman to take over the race lead on lap three. Cordes started to pull away just before the caution came out on lap six for Jerry King in turn four. Cordes again held off Burbridge and Shelman on the restart, only two see two more cautions on lap eleven and eighteen. Cordes went on to take his first of the season at Indee and his 50th IMCA Modified win at Indee in weekly competition. Shelman, eighth place starter Drew Janssen, tenth place starter Dustin Kroening and twelfth place Brennen Chipp rounded out the top five.

Final feature of the night was the 20 lap Dunlap Motors IMCA Late Models feature event, Sean Johnson wrestled the race lead early when pole sitter Ron Klein experienced issues forcing him to the infield. Sean Johnson fend off Russell before pulling away. Sean Johnson was chase down by Logan Duffy but lap traffic helped Sean Johnson to keep a gap to take the feature win. Independence, Iowa (May 7th, 2022) - Independence Motor Speedway finally roared to life on Saturday Night with Opening Night after losing a total of four nights in the month of April, the month of May brought some good fortune. Originally scheduled to compete on the 3/8 mile banked oval was the Haulin' with Hoker Trucking SLMR East Series, however series officials cancelled their portion of the program but speedway officials remained determined to get the season started and added the IMCA Late Models back on the card.

A beautiful sunny day led for a great night to having some racing and if you open it they will come. One hundred-thirty one race cars signed in for Opening Night. Track Manager Justin Temeyer and crew did a fantastic job with the racing surface and it showed all night, as they went two and three wide racing leaving fans on the edge of their seat with some very exciting and close finishes. Even one Limited Late Model of Chase Brunscheen, that runs at Dubuque was on hand to hot lap. The final checkered flag flew at 10:49pm

Brady Hilmer and Brandon Tharp led the field to green the Burco Sales IMCA Sport Mods 15 lap feature event. Hilmer grabbed the lead on lap one but Tharp took it away on lap two. Tony Olson and Cole Suckow joined the battle for the race lead with Hilmer and Tharp. Tony Olson took the race on lap six when Tharp left the door open, Tharp wrestled it back on lap seven. Tharp held off all challengers until a caution on lap 12 for Ethan Krall spinning in turn three and four. Tharp got a great restart and kept Hilmer and Suckow at bay to take the feature win. Hilmer finished second, Kyle Olson got by Suckow for third, Suckow was fourth and Kip Siems was fifth.

Next up was the "Class Too Tough Too Tame" the Dominator Chassis IMCA Stock Cars 20 lap feature. Rookie Kaden Reynolds and defending track champion Tom Schmitt battled it out for the race lead with Reynolds grabbing the top spot until cautions began to plague the feature. The first caution was on lap four for Stephen Streeter in turn four, next one on lap five for Riley Hanson. Tenth place starter Cole Mather worked his way through the field and engaged in a three car battle for the race lead. Mather took the top spot away on lap six, Reynolds took it back on lap seven just before the caution come out again when Brandon Jacoby, Hanson and Streeter on the front stretch. On the restart, Tom Schmitt clipped an infield tractor tire and broke the front end forcing the caution to come out again. Reynolds and Mather swapped the lead a few times down the stretch until the caution came out again on lap 18 for Buck Swanson in turn four. Reynolds looked to be cruising on to take win however the caution came out again on lap 19 for Jacoby on the backstretch. Mather got a great restart and dueled Reynolds to grab the lead. Mather went on to take the feature win. Reynolds crossed in second however was disqualified a rev box infraction. Twelfth place starter Jason Doyle was now credited for second, Jarod Weepie was third, Kevin Rose was fourth and Tyler Carey was fifth.

Just after one lap was scored in the books the caution came out for Cody Jordan and Chris Pittman sitting in turn four. Bieber and Losenicky battled it out for the race lead with Bieber holding tough until lap five. Losenicky used the top side to take over the race lead but the caution came out again on lap six for Jeremy Wheeler, Korey Lana and Justin Hempstead in turn four. Losenicky held off Bieber and Blake Driscol on the restart but the caution came out again on lap eight for Jaice Tuttle in the back stretch. Losenicky was not to be denied as he went on to take the feature win ahead of Driscol, Bieber, Trystin Belthuis and Aaron Swearingen.

In the Waterloo Auto Parts Indee Cars (Micro Mods) 12 lap feature event, Matt Dugan grabbed the early race lead but just after the first lap was scored the caution came out for Kyle Pearson and Carson James being hooked in turns three and four. On the restart, the caution came out again when Jake Steere and Dave Rosburg got together in turn two. Ethan Steere took the top spot away on the restart, shortly after lap two was score, the caution came out when Skyler Dugan in turn four. Ethan Steere held off Matt Dugan and Chad Dugan to claim the win. Chad Dugan finished second, Matt Dugan was third, eleventh place starter Dale Schwamman finished fourth and Carson James came back to finish fifth.

Bradly Graham led the first ten laps of the Albert Auto IMCA Hobby Stocks 15 lap feature fending off several challenges from Brett Vanous. Vanous took the race lead just before the caution came out on lap 11 when Luke Bird went for a spin cycle off the top of turn four. Vanous dealt with Graham and Daniel Wauters on the restart but the caution came out again on lap 12 when Briar Kriegel spun in turn two. Vanous and Wauters battled it out the final three laps with Vanous trying to fend off Wauters. Wauters would beat Vanous in a photo finish at the line to grab the win. Vanous finished second. Graham. Dreu Kueker and Jim Ball Jr. round out the top five.

Brennen Chipp wrestled the race lead from pole sitter Kellie Drury in the Performance Bodies IMCA Modifieds 20 lap feature and was followed by Ronn Lauritzen, Brunson Behning and Troy Cordes. The first caution came out on lap six for Jordan Hicks spinning in turn three. Chipp held off Behning and Laurtizen until the caution came out again on lap ten for Dennis Betzer in turn four. Behning took the race lead on lap 11 before a pair of cautions, first for Patrick Flannagan in turn one and then for Betzer in turn two. Behning held off Chipp and Lauritzen on the restart. On the restart, Veteran Curt Martin and Gage Neal led the field to the green flag with Martin taking the top spot. Martin was followed by Logan Duffy and they begin to pull away from the rest of the field. The caution came out on lap 14 when Jerod Ballhagen spun in turn four. Martin fended off Duffy and Dalton Simonsen on the restart initial but Simonsen used the top side to get by Martin on lap 16.
