Michehl Wins Flaws Memorial, Glover Wins Super Late Model Summer Series #1 at Hamilton County

Since Independence cancelled the races on Saturday after talking with drivers, fans, employee's because of the forecast of rain and cold temperatures to continue to linger the decision was made to cancel so that meant I had a free Saturday night to go racing. Options was back to Boone Speedway or Warren County Speedway or go somewhere new this season, Hamilton County Speedway or Keokuk County Fairgrounds in What Cheer for racing. Well at 2:30pm, the decision was make the trip up to the historic half mile in Webster City.

Karl Chevrolet Buick GMC Hamilton County Speedway officials moved the start time up because of the much cooler May temperatures and it out to be a smart decision. It was also the 2nd Annual Flaws Memorial Race, this is the second year of honoring Bob Flaws and the first year of honoring Dean Flaws. The Night also brought the first of the Super Late Model Summer Series presented by Jerry Goebel State Farm and the first visit of the season by the Karl Chevrolet Dirt Trucks.

The race track was a nice fast and slick track that saw One hundred-two cars sign in the back game including 22 Seneca Foundry USRA Stock Cars, 15 Super Late Models, 15 Stein Heating & Cooling USRA B-Mods, fourteen A1 Auto USRA Tuners, 13 Diamond in the Rough USRA Hobby Stocks, twelve Olsen Family USRA Modifieds and eleven Karl Chevrolet Dirt Trucks. Final checkered flag was displayed at 9:50p.

First feature of the night was the A1 Auto USRA Tuners 12 lap feature event. Fourth place Oliver Monson grabbed the race lead on lap one just before the caution came out for Alex Hayes and Gerald Ford on the front stretch. Monson continued to lead fending off Trent Reed, Jade Lange and Chris Wilson until lap eight when Reed made the move and took the top spot away when Monson started to have mechanical issues. The caution came out again on lap nine for Chris Eddington in turn two. Reed held off Monson on the restart before Monson exited pit side. Reed went on to take the feature win ahead of Jade Lange, Tayla Lange, Ryan Sams and Wilson.

Before a single lap was completed in the Diamond in the Rough USRA Hobby Stocks 15 lap feature event, the caution came out for Daniel Ayers in turn two after contact from  Austin Hoeft. Dustin Gulbrandson jumped out to the race lead on the restart and after fending off challenges from Bryce Sommerfeld got a little separation before the caution came out on lap eight when Nathan Parkhill spun in turn two. Gulbrandson now had to contend with Riley Crimmins and Scott Dobel on the restart and before they could make it back to the start finish line to complete another lap the caution came out when Riley Crimmins spun in turns three and four. Gulbrandson held off Dobel and tenth place starter Jeremy Crimmins on the final restart to take the feature win. Dobel finished second, Jeremy Crimmins was third, Brandon Nielsen was fourth and Roger Haupt was fifth.

Karl Chevrolet Dirt Truck Series 18 lap feature event was next on to the speedway. Bill Davis Jr out wrestled Rick Clark for the race lead early, "Peanut" Dennis Plain grabbed second early from Clark as well. Davis Jr got several challenges from Plain before the caution came out on lap four when Justin Schroeder spun in turn two. Davis Jr fend off Plain and Clark on the restart again but tenth place starter Shawn Cooney worked his way up to take second on lap six and then set his sights on challenging for the race lead. Cooney attempts failed as Davis fend them off and on lap eleven, Cooney clipped an infield tire forcing him to slow down in turn one bringing out the caution. Two more cautions came out on lap 15 for Plain in turn two and then Shaun Clinger in turn two on lap seventeen, that one first a green-white-checkered 2 lap dash. Davis Jr continued to lead through those cautions and held on to lead all the laps to be the third different Dirt Truck feature winner this season. Clark finished second, Jeff Johnson finished third after having mechanical issues in the heat race. Schroeder, Plain and Shonn Mapes round out the top five.

In the Stein Heating & Cooling USRA B-Mods 16 lap feature event, it was hometown driver Ty Griffith grabbing the race lead early. Griffith fended off challenges from Brandon Toftee and Jason Bass early. The caution came out on lap three for Clayton Bohner in turn three. Griffith got a great restart but the caution came out again after lap four was scored when Mitch Frakes spun in turn one after incidental contact from Hunter Longnecker. Shaun Slaughter spun in turn two on the restart resulting in the caution to come out again. Griffith fended off Bass and Tyler Inman on the restart but the caution came out one more time on lap six when Bohner got into the wall in turn one and two. Griffith led the remaining laps to take the feature win ahead of Bass, Inman, Longnecker and Greg Elliott.

Devon Havlik and Kyle Brown led the field to green in the Olsen Family USRA Modifieds 15 lap feature event. Brown grabbed the lead early after fending off Josh Angst and Lance Mari early, Brown started to pull away and never look back in the feature going caution free. Brown took the feature win. Mari finished second, Havlik was third, Angst came home fourth and Dylan Thornton was fifth.

Up next was the Seneca Foundry USRA Stock Cars 25 lap feature in memory of Bob and Dean Flaws. Fort Dodge's Myles Michehl grabbed the lead early holding off Cody Nielsen. The caution came out on lap two when Todd Reitzler spun in turn three. Michehl held of Nielsen and Reid Keller on the restart. Another caution on lap eight for Todd Staley in turn two. Michehl continued to look strong out front, three more cautions came out on lap thirteen, seventeen and eighteen. Michehl was not to be denied as he went on to take his third feature win of the season in Webster City. Fourteenth place starter Pat Graham worked his way to a runner-up finish. Nielsen fell back to third, Heath Tulp was fourth and Mark Elliott was fifth.

Final feature of the night was the 20 lap Super Late Model Summer Series presented by Jerry Goebel State Farm event. Curtis Glover outduel outside front row starter Luke Goedert for the race lead. Glover fend off Goedert and Jason Hahne before pulling away for a short time. Hahne managed to get by Goedert and chased Glover back down.  Hahne challenged Glover for the race lead but couldn't get by as Glover hung on to take the feature win in the first of five nights of the Super Late Model Summer Series presented by Jerry Goebel State Farm. Remaining nights are June 11th, July 23rd, August 6th and August 27th for the Bill Rice Memorial. Goedert, Hahne, Josh Leonard and Jeff Tharp rounded out the top five.
