Southern Iowa Speedway roar back to life by holding its first IMCA sanctioned event at the big 1/2 mile since August 27, 2003. This night would not disappoint any of the 124 drivers sign in to compete or the nearly 2,000 people in the stands.
The first feature of the night was the 15 lap feature for the Tracy Elevator IMCA Hobby Stocks. Shannon Anderson would lead the first lap before the racing veteran Bill Bonnett was able to slip by on lap 2. Shortly after Bonnett took the lead the caution came out for Gina Greubel in turn 4. Bonnett wouldn't let that bother him as he would still continue to lead until Anderson was able to make the move and take the lead back on lap 9. The caution would again come out on lap 10 for a car sitting in turn 2.
Anderson would maintain the lead and hold of several challenges by Bonnett and Eric Stanton in the remaining 5 laps. Anderson took the win, Stanton was 2nd, Bonnett was 3rd, Danny Thrasher was 4th and Curt Hook was 5th.
Next up was the 18 lap feature for the Carter Manufacturing IMCA Stock Cars. John Heinz would lead from start to finish in the race that went green-to-checkered. Justin Jacobsen tried to get by Heinz but ended up settling for 2nd when a lap car got in the way. Kyle Harwood was 3rd, JC Howell was 4th and Jeff Mueller was 5th.
Pyramid Graphics IMCA Sport Mods 16 lap feature was out on the speedway next and it was 2011 National Champion Bryan Lariviere would take the early race lead but then the only caution came after the completion of the 1st lap. Lariviere wouldn't let that faze him as he would go on to the win with Clint Luellen, Ty Luellen, Racer Hulin and John VanDenBerg right behind.
Final feature of the night was the Musco Lighting IMCA Modifieds 20 lap feature and before 1 lap was completed the caution would come out for a couple of cars getting together in turn 3. When the race got going it was former B-Mod competitor Andrew Schroeder taking the early lead and then the caution would come out on lap 2 for a Eric Van Iten getting in the turn 2. Schroeder again would take advantage and go on to the win. However in post-race tech inspection Schroeder was disqualifed handing the win over to Richie Gustin. Rob Czarapata, Mark Elliott, Lance Arneson and Ronn Lauritzen round out the top 5.
The Frostbuster week continues at the Iowa State Fairgrounds Speedway on Thursday, Marshalltown on Friday, Boone on Saturday and Benton County Speedway in Vinton on Sunday. Southern Iowa Speedway's next event is next Wednesday night when the Autocrafters IMCA Sport Compacts join the program on WCM Metalworks Season Opener which all will be Pella Night.
