Finally returned to the race track for the first time in eight days since last friday night in Britt. Mother Nature won last saturday night's races, sunday night races in Vinton and Fort Dodge. With the Hancock County Speedway taking this week off the plan was to head to Marshalltown on Friday Night but again mother nature won so then I set my sights on trying to find a Saturday Night race to go.
Saturday Night, the decision was to make the short fifty-three mile trip from Marshalltown to Boone Speedway for D&E Outside Services Night. One Hundred and seventy-two cars signed in the regular six classes. There two-man cruisers and UTV side-by-sides were also on the card.
Smith Brothers dominated victory lane by taking the checkers first, David in the IMCA Stock Cars and Daniel in the IMCA Hobby Stocks. Joe Glick wins Mod Lites, Tyler Thompson wins Sprint Car and Joel Rust wins Modifieds. Cam Reimers wins his first career Sport Mod feature.
Joe Glick flexed his muscles early in the MyRacePass Mod Lites 15 lap feature event holding off early challenges from Tanner Gannon and Jeff Stensland. Glick went on to lead from start to finish in the feature that went green-to-checkered to claim his second feature win of the year. Tanner Gannon finished second, Randy Bryan was third, "Huggie Bear" Joel Huggins was fourth and Bryan Zehm was fifth.
In the 18 lap Elmquist Towing IMCA Northern Sport Mods feature saw Cam Reimers claim his first career win. Reimers jumped out to the lead early but the only to have two consecutive yellows on lap two slow his efforts. First caution was for Cory Rose in turn three and four, the second one on the restart was for Mitchell Morris and Kyle Bentley in turn three. Reimers motored away from the field on the restart and cruised on to the win ahead of Austin Schrage, Johnathon Logue, tenth place starter Tony Olson and twelfth place starter Doug Smith.
Up next on to Iowa's Action Track was the Snap-On Tools IMCA Modifieds 20 lap feature event. Eric Elliott led the first twelve laps of the race with only cautions on lap three for Randy Havlik in turn four and on lap four for Cory Sauerman in turn one, slowing him down. Elliott looked to be heading on to take the win until twelveth place starter Joel Rust made the topside work and took over the lead on the thirteenth lap. Rust knew that fellow Rage driver Jimmy Gustin was making hus way from tenth, as the laps winded down Gustin grabbed the lead with one lap to go but Rust regained the lead on the backstretch and crossed the start finish line first to take the victory. Gustin, eighth place starter Mike Van Genderen, eleventh place starter Ricky Thornton Jr and ninth place starter Tim Ward rounded out the top five.
Matthew West led the first three laps in the Arnold Motor Supply IMCA Stock Cars 18 lap feature. A caution came out on lap two for Mark Hidlebaugh in turn three, Russell Damme Jr and Les Blakley in turn two. The real show in the feature was the battle between brothers David and Devin Smith through out the feature and when a caution came out on lap 14 for Todd Reitzler in turn two, it was even more exciting. On the restart, David stumbled in turn two after hitting a rut that allowed Devin to sneak by on lap fifteen. The following lap, Devin did the same thing that allowed David to get back by on lap sixteen. David Smith went on to lead the remaining laps to score his first win in Boone this year. Jay Schmidt, powered by Devin Smith in the final moments to finish second ahead of Devin Smith. Calvin Lange was fourth and Scott Davis was fifth.
Brian Efkamp led the opening lap in the K1 Race Gear IMCA Racesaver Sprint Cars 20 lap feature before Val Urman took the lead away. The caution came out on lap two for Cade Higday spinning in turn four. Urman and Mike Moore would battle for the lead with Urman holding off but just after the eighth lap was scored, Moore made the move took the lead away going down the backstretch but Urman refused to go away tried to take it back but they got together in turn three. That handed lead over Tyler Thompson and Thompson would go on to take the win despite a pair of cautions on lap 17, first one for Shadrach Sporaa in turn two and then Brian Efkamp in turn two. Mike Houseman Jr finished second, CJ Houseman was third, Cade Higday was fourth and Joel Thorpe was fifth.
Micah Hidlebaugh looked strong early in the 15 lap Pickett Salvage IMCA Hobby Stocks feature until Daniel Smith worked his way from seventh to take the top spot away on lap six. Smith and the field was slowed on lap seven when Shaun Wirtz spun turn one. Smith cruised on to the easy win ahead of twelveth place starter Aaron Rudolph, ninth place starter Eric Knuston, eleventh place starter John Watson and Rusty Gyles.
Cruiser Feature went to the team of Donny Mason and Junior Worley meanwhile the side by side UTV main event went to Greg Hayes.
Racing returns to its normal start times with Hot Laps at 6:45 and Racing at 7:30 next Saturday. It will also be another Super Saturday presented by IMCATV for the IMCA Modifeds and IMCA Sport Mods sponsored by BHE Custom Suspension. IMCA Stock Cars, IMCA Hobby Stocks, IMCA RaceSaver Sprint Cars and Mod Lites will all be on the card as well.

Pictures from last nights races taken by me during hot laps and heat races are posted on the Trackside Report Facebook Page or at Boone D&E Outside Services Night 5/25/19
Up next for me is the Benton County Speedway in Vinton tonight for Albert Auto Service Night and then Monday Night for the Dirt Knights Tour Season Opener, if mother nature cooperates both nights there will be no blog because of me working corner 1 and 2.
Then next week my schedule will be Friday Night at the Hancock County Speedway, Saturday Night is Open, Benton County Speedway again on Sunday and Hancock County Speedway for IMCATV Monday Night Spotlight on Monday June 3rd.

Shryock, Nordman, Pesicka, Nielsen and Lange Win In Britt
Mother Nature tried several times to claim the races at the Hancock County Speedway before they even got started but Speedway Officials were not scared. The little amounts of rain that came down was called "Dust Control" as the track prep team led by John Pletcher had the race track in amazing condition all night long. They went to two, three and some times four wide battling most of the night and had several close finishes in either the heats or features.
Sixty-Five cars signed in to race on Schroeder Racing Products and Doll Distributing Night. House Motorsports IMCA Sport Mods had the most with 19 cars. Quick Performance IMCA Stock Cars and MPM Marketing IMCA Hobby Stocks each had 15 cars. IMCA Modifieds had 13 cars and IMCA Sport Compacts 3 cars.
Jade Lange led from start to finish in the 6 lap IMCA Sport Compacts Feature event to take his first career win ahead of Oliver Monson and "Upside Down" Bubba Brown. Only thing slowing this race down was a caution on lap three for debris in turn two. Monson tried to make a move on the last lap but ran out of time.
In the Quick Performance IMCA Stock Cars 15 lap feature event it was Gary Pesicka wrestling the early lead from Andrew Borchardt. Borchardt tried to take the lead away before the only race caution came out on lap three for Darin Toot in turn four. Pesicka continued to hold off challenges from Borchardt and Calvin Lange on the restart, later by Chad Palmer. Pesicka went on to be the third different winner in the Stock Cars this season in Britt. Palmer finished second and will take over the points lead. Borchardt was third, Dan Mackenthun was fourth and Austin Jahnz worked his way from fifteenth to finish fifth.
Up next the House Motorsports IMCA Sport Mods 15 lap feature event saw Autum Anderson grab the early lead but a caution came out on lap two for Justin Bettin. Anderson saw George Nordman take the top spot away on the restart and he began to pull away only to have the caution come out again on lap four for Corey Klouse in turn four. Nordman got a great restart only to see the caution come out again on lap six for several cars getting together in turn two. Again after lap seven for Matthew Hanson and Kent Haugland in turn four and then again on lap 11 for Bettin again in turn four. Nordman was not going to be denied as he cruised on to the win. Colby Fett, Jason Bass, Doug Cook and Jamie Anderson rounded out the top five.
Blaine Hanson led the three laps of the MPM Marketing IMCA Hobby Stocks 15 lap feature before Scott Dobel took the top spot away. Dobel led until the only caution came out on lap eight for Jace Hanson in turn four. Dobel knew the Nielsen Brothers were coming and he quickly found that out on the restart as Cody Nielsen took the lead away on lap nine. Nielsen slipped up just enough on lap 11 to allow Dobel to take back the lead. that lead was short lived as Nielsen powered back by and went on to take the win. Dobel finished in the runner-up spot ahead of Zac Smith, tenth place starter Josh Sidles and Brandon Nielsen.
Final feature of the night was the 20 lap IMCA Modifieds feature and it would go green-to-checkered caution free. JJ Wise, the Racing Auctioneer, led the first three laps before Nick Meyer took the spot away. Jeremy Mills worked his way to the top spot on lap eight but it was Kelly Shryock looking too strong on the top side and he took the top spot away on lap ten.
Shryock went on to take the win with Mills in second, Meyer in third, Wise in fourth and Cody Knecht in fifth.

Stuart Speedway remember a great friend of the racing community on Wednesday with the Inaugural Jake Durbin Memorial sponsored by Elite Electric & Utility Contractors, John's Tree Service, DJ Septic Services, Pitts Lawn and Tree Service. Along with family and friends of Jake throwing extra money to make it an All-Star Invitational Qualifer for the Modifieds and adding to the purse in all other classes. Honorary Guest of the night was Jake's Daughter Lexi Durbin and I know that Jake is watching down on all of us that got a chance to know him.
110 cars and trucks signed in too compete on the bull ring 1/4 mile oval. Twenty-four Rick's Towing IMCA Northern Sport Mods, Twenty John's Tree Service IMCA Sport Compacts, Nineteen Karl Chevrolet of Stuart IMCA Modifieds, Nineteen Affordable Quality Roofing & Exteriors IMCA Stock Cars, Eighteen Pitts Lawn Service IMCA Hobby Stocks and Ten Karl Chevrolet Dirt Trucks.
Ricky Thornton Jr won the IMCA Modfieds, Kyle Brown took the IMCA Stock Cars, John Watson won the IMCA Hobby Stocks, Brayton Carter won the IMCA Sport Mods, Myles Michehl won the Dirt Trucks and Ramsey Meyer won the IMCA Sport Compacts. Cody Thompson won the Pole Position Raceway Challenge Race which pitted all classes except Sport Compacts on the track at one time. Thornton finished second ahead Corey Madden, Josh Most and Shannon Anderson.
First feature of the night was the 15 lap John's Tree Service IMCA Sport Compacts feature. Denny Berghahn Jr. grabbed the top spot early from his second row inside starting spot but just after the completion of lap two, the caution came out for debris in turn four. Berghahn continued to lead until twelveth place starter Ramsey Meyer worked his way through the field and took the top spot away on lap eight. Meyer pulled away and went on to take the easy win. Berghahn finished second, tenth place starter Jake Benischek finished third, Travis Graspy was fourth and Colton Garside was fifth.
In the Rick's Towing IMCA Northern Sport Mods 20 lap feature event, it was Cody Olsen nabbing the early lead. The first caution came out on lap three for Mark Menard in turn four and then again a lap later when Chris Burke spun in turn two. Olsen was not to be denied as he continued to pace the way holding off Brayton Carter and Cody Thompson until the next caution came out out on lap ten for Kyle Tanner, Colton Nelson and Mitchell Morris in turn four. Olsen lost the lead on lap twelve to Carter with the caution coming out two more times, lap 15 for Matt Hays in turn four and then again on lap 18 for Hays in turn two. Carter went on to take the win ahead of Tyler Inman, Olsen, Cody Thompson and Chase Rudolf.
Karl Chevrolet Dirt Trucks was up next for their 20 lap feature event. Rick Clark led the first lap before Jeff Frevert took the top spot away on lap two. Frevert led until just after the completion of lap four when he spun in turn four, Myles Michehl made contact but was able to inherit the lead as he had no where to go was given his spot back as was Lou Siplot. The caution came out on the restart when Lucas Richardson spun in turn one. When the race finally got going again. Michehl was out front but all eyes was on Siplot and Jeff Johnson racing door handle to door handle for the second spot through the remainder of the race. Michehl took the win and the becomes the points leader in the Dirt Trucks Series. Siplot came across the line in second but because of over heating issues skipped post race tech inspection to get water resulting in a disqualification. Jeff Johnson, driving Siplot's second truck, inherited second. Bryan Spangler was third, Clark was fourth and Richardson came back to finish fifth.
Dylan Nelson led the first two laps of the Pitts Lawn Service IMCA Hobby Stocks 18 lap feature event before Corey Madden took the top spot away on lap three. Madden and Nelson continued to battle for the top spot until a caution came out on lap five for Matthew Wahl, Matt Tiernan and Nick Foster in turn two. Madden knew Shannon Anderson was near just before a caution came out on lap eight when Jack Phillips spun in turn two. Madden and Anderson began their crazy battle for the top spot but Madden hung out to the top spot until lap seventeen. Anderson took the lead away on lap eighteen but Madden made the right move and took back the lead in turn two. Madden and Anderson caught up to the lap car for Richard Pahlka coming to the checkers out of turn four, Madden then had his left rear turned around by Anderson. After a brief discussion by track officials, the decision was made to give John Watson who crossed in second the victory. Madden was credited with second and Anderson was placed in third. Nelson was fourth and Micah Hidlebaugh had a fifth place finish.
The Class To Tough Too Tame, Affordable Quality Roofing & Exteriors IMCA Stock Cars rolled on the speedway for their 22 lap feature. Mitch Ross led the opening lap before Shawn Ritter took the top spot away. Ritter led until a caution came out on lap five for Bill Heinkel in turn one, Ritter experienced a flat tire and had to head to the work area to change a tire that handed the lead over to Todd Van Eaton. The caution came out just after lap six was scored for Ross on the backstretch. Van Eaton and Eleventh place Kyle Brown raced for the top spot with Brown wrestling the lead away on lap 11. Brown held off late race challenges after a lap 17 caution for debris in turn three and four to take the win. Buck Schafroth took advantage of a slip up by Van Eaton to take second, Van Eaton was third. Ritter worked his way back up to finish fourth and Brandon Pruitt was fifth.
Final feature of the night was the Karl Chevrolet of Stuart IMCA Modifieds 25 lap event. Ricky Thornton Jr led from start to finish with only cautions slowing him down.
First caution came out on lap eight for Scott Bash in turn one, second caution came out on lap 12 for Matthew Meinecke and Matt Bonine in turn two. Jason Pestka spun in turn one on lap thirteen and Josh Most on lap twenty-one. Thornton did have some challenges early from Kyle Brown, Nick Roberts and Jesse Dennis and later challenges from eleventh place starter Hunter Marriott and Dennis. Tuesday Night Racing Thoughts From Foxman
Last week I did not get to watch much racing action because of rain outs and because of other things resulting in not being able to attend any races with the exception of sunday at the Benton County Speedway. Despite all the rain leading up to the weekend, Don Burkey and the track prep team got the track ready to be raced on and the races went off like scheduled on Sunday.
For the most part the races had no major issues until feature time went their was three roll-overs....1st in Sport Mods when Ryan King rolled two times after clipping a terra-tire avoiding from running over Adam Birck......2nd one in Sport Compacts when Nicole Miller rolled after hitting a rut in turn three.....3rd one in Hobby Stocks when Matt Brown cut a right rear tire in turn two causing him to roll over on the back stretch.
Cole McNeal makes it two for two on the year at BCS in the Micro Mod division. Danny Dvorak picks up his 1st win of the season in the IMCA Sport Mods. Travis Losenicky picks up the win in the Sport Compact class. Damon Murty was the master in the IMCA Stock Cars feature event.
Justin Wacha led the final two laps in the IMCA Hobby Stocks after the top two of Kaden Reynolds and Brett Vanous got together in turn four. Reynolds car damage from the contact and Vanous sent to the pits for rough driving.
Troy Cordes bounced back with a feature win in the IMCA Modifieds and Curtis Glover led from start to finish in the IMCA Late Models feature event on Sunday.

INEX Legend Cars return for their second visit of the season to the 1/4 mile race track along with a Weekly Points Night for the IMCA Late Models, IMCA Modifieds, IMCA Stock Cars, IMCA Sport Mods, IMCA Hobby Stocks, BCS Micro Mods and Sport Compacts. Gates Open at 4pm with Hot Laps at 5:45pm and Racing at 6pm.
Following week their will be two nights of racing with Albert Auto Night on Sunday May 26th and Dirt Knights Tour on Monday May 27th with the IMCA Modifieds being the headliners both nights. Also racing will be the Stock Cars, Sport Mods, Hobby Stocks and BCS Micro Mods. Late Models and Sport Compacts will have the nights off but return to the weekly racing program on Urbana 5 Memorial Night on Sunday June 2nd.
The Plan for racing this week is
Wednesday Night - Stuart Speedway for the Inaugural Jake Durbin Memorial Race.....Remembering a great man who was involved in racing, he lost his last October.
Thursday Night - Marshalltown Speedway for the 2nd Annual Dale DeFrance Memorial Race....Remembering another great man who you could say many great things about him.
Friday Night - Hancock County Speedway in Britt for Schroeder Racing Products and Doll Distributing Night.....Back behind the microphone with Chad Meyer.....Should mother nature take Britt away if Marshalltown goes that will be a back up plan.
Saturday Night - Still open as of right now with several options but undecided.
Sunday Night - Benton County Speedway for another Weekly Racing Points Night.
Final thoughts......I want to give a shout out to IMCA Modified Driver Nick Roberts for his Facebook post about thanking me for what I do to promote this sport of racing. Honestly I was speechless and I type this I am still speechless to all the people that agreed. You all know you all are true fans and I thank you.
If you haven't seen the post here it is:
When I started going to the races nearly 25 years ago as a young fan in the stands never in my mind did I ever think I would have the passion for racing like I did back then. I love this sport when I created the Trackside Report in 2007, I knew I wanted to continue to promote this sport in a positive way first with a podcast and then keeping the Trackside Report Facebook Page through out the racing season. The one thing a lot of people forget is everything on that page is posted by me so it gets hard keeping up with everything.
Before the season started I got some pens with stylists for your smart phone thanking you for your support of the Trackside Report over the years if u see me at the races and want one I might have some with me

Races Cancelled Tonight in Britt / Thoughts About Rain Outs
Yesterday the plan of attack at the Hancock County Speedway was let it dry before getting equipment on the race track. They posted on the Facebook Page : We are getting a lot of messages asking if we are racing tomorrow. We
will make a decision tonight based on drying today and the ability to
get equipment on the track.
After discussion at the track last night, again posted with an update on Facebook : We just got done meeting with John @ the track. As of now the races are on. Will revisit the conditions tomorrow morning and go from there. Still VERY wet out there but John thinks there is a chance.
So move in to Friday morning the decision was made that they would be racing and anonymous sponsor increased the Modified Winner so the Speedway officials announced the Stock Cars winner would get some extra money too.
Unfortunately after getting equipment on the track to get it ready to race tonight, it quickly came obviously that it was extremely softer than anticipated so because they did not want to tear up race cars the decision was made to cancel tonight.
"HANCOCK COUNTY SPEEDWAY RACES CANCELLED FOR MAY 10TH"
Do I like the factor that the races are cancelled.....answer is no but do I appreciate the decision was made before I report to work yes I do. So thank you for making the decision at a decent so everybody can make different plans.
RACE TRACK CANCELS RACES FOR TONIGHT
I always find it funny when race tracks cancel because of all the people either saying they should have cancelled last night or you could still go racing. Race tracks want to race more than you know but if you get tore up on the race track because of the track, you get mad and give the promoters an earful.
1) Cancelled LAST NIGHT, today you would be saying oh look its Sunny and nice outside.....the race track would've been able to work in nicely if you had just waited it out longer.
2) Cancelled EARLIER TODAY, why didn't you just cancel last night if you knew it couldn't be raced on since you need more drying conditions to help the track.
3) Cancelled after attempting to get on the track to get the track ready for the night.......Why didn't you just cancel last night or earlier today so we could make different plans?
Its a no win for the promoters when they have to make a difficult decision to cancel races instead of bad mouthing all over Social Media, thank them for making the decision, for perserving the track from ruts all year and for saving you money from getting tore up.
REMEMBER NO NEWS FROM A RACE TRACK IS GOOD NEWS..........so instead of plugging their phones with calls or texts asking if they are racing you can bet if you don't see them post anything on Facebook, Twitter or Website they are racing.

Mother Nature Wins Marshalltown This Week, DeFrance Memorial Rescheduled
This week the plan was to head to the Marshalltown Speedway tonight for the 2nd Annual Dale DeFrance Memorial Race. Due to the heavy rains that fell on Wednesday Morning and Afternoon it left the grounds on the Central Iowa Fairgrounds extremely wet. So Speedway Officials made the quick decision to postponed the race until next Thursday instead.
Some had wondered why the Speedway did not reschedule the races for Friday Night well its very simple as the Central Iowa Fairgrounds is hosting a Iowa High School & Junior High Rodeo this weekend (Friday-Sunday) which is why the races were moved to Thursday Night and no races was scheduled on Friday Night. So there is NO RACING at Marshalltown tonight or tomorrow.
With the 2nd Annual Dale DeFrance Memorial Race is rescheduled for next Thursday Night and then the originally scheduled Salute to Military Night presented by UAW 893. Thursday Night will be draw/redraw for track, state, regional and national points and Friday Night will be the normal IMCA Point Invert Lineup procedure. IMCA Late Models, IMCA Modifieds, IMCA Stock Cars, IMCA Sport Mods, IMCA Hobby Stocks and MADCRA Mod Lites are all on the card both nights.

Of course this was not the only cancellation for this week so far as the Kossuth County Speedway in Algona also cancelled Thursday Night. Thornton Wins A Thriller on Car Wars Night at Boone
After watching the Lucas Oil MLRA Late Models Show at Stuart Speedway on Thursday and Announcing races at the Hancock County Speedway, the decision was to make a much shorter drive to watch some races, take pictures and keep some notes to write another blog. Although their was two other big shows going on with the SLMR Late Models at Corning, Kyle Berck won his 1st win of the year and Lucas Oil MLRA at West Liberty Raceway, Bobby Pierce picked up the win again to complete this week's sweep. The Choice was down to Hamilton County Speedway for a $3,000 to win USRA Alternative Modifieds Special or Boone Speedway for Car Wars Night.....As you see I chose Boone but heard the racing was just as exciting in Webster City.
On to the racing at Boone Speedway, 128 entries checked into Iowa's Action Track not counting Cruiser Cars. Thirty Pickett Salvage IMCA Hobby Stocks checked in for $500 to win and Twenty-Four Snap-On Tools IMCA Modifieds checked in for Car Wars Night. Also Twenty-Nine Elmquist Towing IMCA Northern Sport Mods, Twenty-Five Arnold Motor Supply IMCA Stock Cars, Eleven My Race Pass Mod Lites and nine K1 Race Gear IMCA RaceSaver Sprint Cars.
Hobby Stocks were draw/redraw format, Modifieds had a modified draw/redraw format. Modifieds drew for their heat races and then did a redraw for their starting spots in their Qualifers with the Winners of the qualifers given the option to take the challenge to go to the tail for some extra money. Kelly Shryock and Ricky Thornton Jr won those qualifers and Thornton chose to go to the tail for the A-Main. Everybody would start straight up how they finished in the Qualifers, Qualifer 1 on the inside, Qualifer 2 on the Outside.....more on the Modifieds later.
First feature of the night was the 15 lap My Race Pass Mod Lites feature. After having the initial start waived off, the feature would go caution-free for fifteen laps. "Huggie Bear" Joel Huggins led the entire way to go on and claim his first win of the season in Boone. Tanner Gannon ran second the entire distance. Joe Glick finished third, Mike Kennedy was fourth and Randy Bryan was fifth.
In the Elmquist Towing IMCA Northern Sport Mods 18 lap feature event it was Hunter Longnecker flexing his muscles. Longnecker had to contend with Tyler Inman in the early going but a total of four cautions, two on lap two and two on lap four. Longnecker managed to lead all 18 laps and going on to take the win. Jake McBirnie worked his way from fifteenth starting spot to grab runner up honors. Cam Reimers held off Cory Pestotnik at the finish line for third and fourth respectively. Chad Ryerson worked his way from a last row starting spot and being involved in one of the early race cautions to finish fifth.
The Snap-On Tools IMCA Modifieds was the featured class of the Night with $1,000 to win on the line for 25 laps. Kelly Shryock and Randy Havlik led the field to the green flag after Thornton opted to go to the rear and start twenty-fourth. Shryock grabbed the lead right away but the first few laps, Jimmy Gustin had his sights to pass Shryock for the lead. Josh Gilman, Mike Van Genderen and Randy Havlik also hanging tough. One Eye was on the leaders battling it out front and another was on Ricky Thornton Jr, to see if he could make his way through the field. By lap nine, Thornton had worked his way uo to the fourth and Gustin and Shryock race wheel-to-wheel up front. Thornton than made his way past Mike Van Genderen for third on lap 14 and setting his sights on the leaders. On lap nineteen, their was a new leader his name was "RT" Ricky Thornton Jr and the crowd went wild as he had just passed twenty-three cars to take over the lead. Thornton was not going to be denied the extra money, the Darth Vader Trophy, as he took the checkers first ahead of Shryock, Gustin, "T-Dub" Tim Ward and "Flying Dutchman" Mike Van Genderen.
Calvin Lange led the opening lap in the Arnold Motor Supply IMCA Stock Car Feature event. Craig Carlson wrestled it away on lap two and looked comfortable out front but the caution came out on lap 13 when Wayne Gifford and Tyler Pickett each came to a rest at the top of turn three. Carlson had Lange and eleventh place starter Donavon Smith on his back bumper on the restart. Donavon Smith took the top spot away just before the caution came out on lap sixteen for Austin Gray in turn two. Donavon Smith got a great restart and went on to take the win ahead of Brother Devin Smith, who worked his way from twelveth to finish second. Lange, Scott Davis and Carlson rounded out the top five.
K1 Race Gear IMCA RaceSaver Sprint Cars made their 2019 track points debut. Mike Moore grabbed the early race lead with Mike Houseman running a close second and then the caution came out on lap three for debris in turn two when DJ Palmer lose a driveshaft. Houseman grabbed the lead away on the restart and led the remaing seventeen laps to take the win. Tyler Thompson took second, Moore was third, CJ Houseman was fourth and Joel Thorpe was fifth.
Final feature of the night was the Pickett Salvage IMCA Hobby Stocks $500 to win 18 lap feature. Adam Ayers and John Watson battled for the early race lead before the caution came out on lap three for Solomon Bennett in turn four. Ayers and Watson continued to battle it out but on lap eight, Ayers blew a tire in turn four resulting the caution coming out. Watson inherited the lead but that was short lived as Daniel Smith took over the lead on lap nine. The caution came out on lap ten for debris in turn two. Smith held on to cash in the win ahead of Watson. Tenth place starter Shaun Wirtz finished third, eighteenth place starter Dylan Nelson was fourth and twelveth place starter Aaron Rudolph was fifth.
Cruisers also ran but I did not keep track of who won or even know who was racing the cruisers so there is no recap for them.

Pierce Nabs the MLRA Checkers at Stuart
When I heard the Lucas Oil MLRA Late Models was going to make their first ever trip to the Stuart International Speedway and the tight bull ring race track it was placed on the schedule as a race to must see. I made just in time for Hot Laps and was extremely excited for the night of racing ahead.
Track Owner Mike Van Genderen and the track prep crew got the race track ready to go and continued to work the racing surface all night to make it the best racing surface. The drivers left very impressed and if I was a betting man, which I am not but my guess is Stuart will have a race or two maybe in 2020.
24 Late Models checked in for what was supposed to be night 1 of a 4 night swing but just before the race started in Stuart. Tour officials announced that the race scheduled for Friday Night at Davenport Speedway on the 1/4 mile was cancelled. So meaning it was Race 1 of 3 in 4 nights. Series is scheduled to head to West Liberty Raceway on Saturday and 1st ever trip to another Bullring, Quincy Raceways in Quincy, Illinois.
First feature of the night was a thrilling 15 lap IMCA Hobby Stocks feature event. Chuck Madden Jr grabbed the early race lead with Jack Phillips following suit into top two. Phillips put pressure on Madden but shortly after Shannon Anderson from fifth starting spot and made it a three car fight. Phillips tried to find some grip on the bottom, that left the door open for Anderson to sneak on by on the high side and then on lap seven when Phillips again tried to get by Madden, Anderson found the grip strip in the middle and took over the top spot. The Lap traffic got heavy late allowing Madden to see a door open on Anderson but Anderson held off Madden to take win number two at Stuart. Madden, Phillips, Dylan Nelson and Adam Ayers rounded out the top five.
Jeremy Gettler led the first three laps in the IMCA Stock Cars feature event before Last Week's feature winner Buck Schafroth took over the top spot on lap four. The caution came out on lap six when Gettler tried to go low and clipped one of the farm tires in turn one. Schafroth continued to battle with Gettler and Todd Van Eaton. Van Eaton took second away from Gettler and began to battle with Schafroth for the lead. On lap 11, Van Eaton's day came to and end when the driveshaft came out in turn four forcing the yellow flag to come back out. Schafroth now had to contend with Mike Nichols and held his line fending off the pressure. Shawn Ritter joined the battle after making his way through the field. Nichols made one last attempt to take the lead away by going inside of the leader in turn three but when his car bicycled on the right side, he had to let out of the throttle to bring it back down and that allowed Ritter to take second away. Schafroth makes it two in a row after ending upside down two weeks ago. Ritter finished second, Nichols was third, Kyle Brown was fourth and Josh Daniels was fifth.
Next up was the race everybody was ready to see the 40 laps Lucas Oil MLRA Late Models feature event. Payton Looney won DirtOnDirt.com Pole and he wrestled the leada way from Tyler Bruening but the caution came out on lap three for Dave Eckrich coming to a stop in turn three. Looney again held off Bruening until just after completing lap four, Looney saw his engine expire exiting turn two ending his night and handing the lead over to Bruening. "Smooth Operator" Bobby Pierce was working his way through the field from his 13th place starting spot and restarted third with Points Leader Will "The Thrill" Vaught in second. The red flag came out on lap eight when Jake Neal came to a stop in turn four after getting hit in the helmet a chunk of dirt, cracking his helmet. Neal would continue after getting checked out by the medical personnel and his dad getting his back-up helmet from the hauler.
The again come out on lap 10 for Jesse Stovall had his left rear tire went down however Andrew Kosiski had no where to go and would make contact sending both cars to the pits. Bruening continued to lead until Pierce worked the top side of the speedway and powered by on lap 16. Pierce was followed by Bruening, Chris Simpson and Vaught but fend them off until lap traffic got really heavy. Caution came out on lap 30 for debris in turn two making it a dash to the finish. Pierce held on to nab the $3,000 paycheck to take the win with Simpson finishing second, Bruening was third, Vaught was fourth and Jordan Yaggy was fifth.
Final feature of the night was the IMCA Sport Mods 20 lap feature event with 26 cars strong. Before a lap could be scored the caution came out first for Colton Nelson in turn two and then for Kody Havens in turn four on the restart. Hunter Longnecker nabbed the top spot early but the caution again came out just after one lap was scored in the book for Brandon Patava, Nelson and Havens in turn four. Lap later the cautin came out again for Cody Thompson, Tyler Inman, Ed Hamilton and Ronnie Hults in turn one. Longnecker continued to lead until Inman worked his way back through the field to take the top spot away on lap 14. Just after the caution came out when Blair Simmons got into the turn 1 wall. Inman led the remaining laps to take the win ahead of Longnecker, Brayton Carter, Austin Kaplan and Jake McBirnie.
