Meyer, Gustin, Watson, Glick, Sabin and Murty Victorious on Capital Sign Company Night

Karl Auto Group of Marshalltown Speedway got the month of July and the 4th of July holiday weekend with some great racing action on the quarter mile high banked dirt oval. There was fantastic racing with every inch of the racing surface being used all night.

One Hundred-thirty one cars signed into take to the track for Capital Sign Company Night at the Races. There was also one Enduro car of Brad Graham in attendance as well to get some hot laps. The final checkered flag was displayed at 11:24pm which was later than normal because several cautions in the feature events.

First feature of the night was the IMCA Stars Mod Lites 20 lap feature event. Just as the field was coming to complete lap one the caution came out when eight cars got together in turn four. Ben George, Jon Padilla, Bryan Zehm, Austin Gray, Alex Eischeid, Dillon Raffurty, Jason Masengarb and Justin Raffurty were all involved. Joe Glick grabbed the lead on the restart fending off Josh May and Joel Huggins but the caution came out again on lap two when Darrick Knutsen went off turn two. Glick held off Huggins off on the restart but Huggins refused to go away. Huggins made several attempts to take the top spot away from Glick. Glick held on to win by inches over Huggins, according to scoring tower. Huggins was second, Michael Raffurty finished third, Randy Bryan was fourth and Charlie Brown, driving Huggins other car, finished fifth.

The Big 8 Tyre Center IMCA Sport Mods 20 lap feature event was caution filled as the feature took almost 28 minutes to complete. Two caution came out before a single lap scored, first one for Curt Smeins and Dennis Stewart in turn one and the second one for Steve McLaughlin in turn four. Jessiah Taylor took the race lead when the feature finally got rolling but the caution came out again on lap four when Taylor Bass spun in turn four. Jenae Gustin worked her way around Taylor to take over the race lead on lap eight just prior to a caution on when Vern Jackson spun in turn two, Chance Titus and McLaughlin in turn one. The following restart was waived off as the field stacked up in turn three resulting in a jackrabbit warning to Gustin. Gustin got a bet restart but the caution again came out on lap nine when Taylor Bass, Titus, Cory Van Zante, Kaylin Lopez and Ryan Leeman in turn four. Jenae Gustin held off Shane Paris and Tony Olson on the restart, Gustin went on to take the feature win. Paris finished second, Tony Olson was third, fifteenth place starter Sam Wieben was fourth and Matthew Mayo was fifth.

Sam West led the first lap of the IMCA Hobby Stocks 20 lap feature before a caution came out when Calvin Dhondt spun in turn two. Solomon Bennett took the lead away on the restart but his lead was short lived as Bradly Graham took the lead away on lap four. The caution came out shortly after for Rylee Wiebers spun in turn two. Graham got a great restart fending off Bennett and John Watson but the caution came out on lap seven when Briar Kriegel got hung up on a pair of turn four infield tires. Another caution on lap 11 for Wiebers in turn two. Graham held off on every restart and appeared to be heading on to take the win until lap fifteen when he went off the top side of turn two. That handed the lead over to John Watson, Watson fended off challenges from Bennett and Ryan Havel on the restart. The caution came out one more time on lap 18 for Bennett in turn one. Watson went on to take the win ahead of Seth Butler, Havel, Daniel Wauters and William Klosterman.

Next on to the speedway was the Drury Automotive and Truck Repair IMCA Stock Cars 20 lap feature and it was Jay Schmidt taking the early race lead. The caution came out on lap one when AJ Weichmann spun in turn three. Schmidt held off Steve Meyer and Kaden Reynolds initial but Meyer was able to take over the race lead on lap three. Meyer started to pull away as Schmidt was continuing to hold off Reynolds for second. Reynolds took second away on lap ten. The caution came out on lap 14 for Brett Maasdam. Meyer continued to lead the way keeping Reynolds and Austin Kaplan, who worked his way into third. The caution came out on lap eighteen for Weichmann in turn two. The following restart also saw the caution for Michael Smith, Maasdam, Greg Sweerin and Dillon Solum in turn four. Meyer held on to take the feature win ahead of Kaplan, Reynolds, David Atcher and Jeff Wollam. Wollam takes over the points lead in the Stock Cars.

Before a single lap was completed in the Tire Demon by Love Tap IMCA Modifieds 20 lap feature, the caution came out when Dylan Thornton in turn one. Nicholas Carpenter led the first lap before Jimmy Gustin took the lead away on lap two. The caution came out on lap three for Ronn Lauritzen in turn two, Lap four for Chris Wilke and Josh Barta in turn one. Again on lap five when Scott Simatovich slid off the top turn four. Gustin looked strong but knew "Game Changer" Dallon Murty had to be close, Murty attempted to take the lead but failed and to regather to make another attempt. Gustin began to hit lap traffic and Murty used that to his advantage on lap sixteen to take the lead away when Gustin had to slow for a lap car. The caution came for the final time on lap sixteen when Wilke spun in turn one and two. Murty went on to take his third win the Modifieds at Marshalltown in 2022. Drew Janssen got by Gustin for second, Gustin finished third. Maguire DeJong was fourth and Zack Rawlins was fifth.

Final feature of the night was the 15 lap IMCA Sport Compacts feature, John Gill led the opening lap but Kolby Sabin took the away from Gill on lap two.
