With a night off at the Independence Motor Speedway for the Independence Day Holiday weekend and so the Buchanan County Fairgrounds ready for the Buchanan County Fair next week, the decision was already scheduled to go to Boone this week for the Tammy Stevens Memorial.
The night was in honor and memory of a track official Tammy Stevens who passed away in July of 2021 after a battle with breast cancer. The D&E Outdoor Services IMCA Modifieds were draw/redraw for $1,000 to win in honor of Tammy Stevens, her favorite division was the Modifieds but she love working and watching races. Somebody who knew her, she was just an extremely amazing person, I know I miss her dearly as do all the other people.
One Hundred-sixty two drivers in the five weekly IMCA divisions checked in to tame 1/3 mile dirt oval known as Iowa's Action Track, thirty-three IMCA Modifieds were in attendance. Also the 2 Man cruisers was in attendance and their was a total of 10 on the night, although six of them was unable to race the feature. There was great racing plus fireworks on and off the track, final checkered flag was displayed at 10:00pm.
First feature of the night was the 15 lap MyRacePass IMCA Star Mod Lites feature. Austin Gray grabbed the early lead fending off Bryan Zehm. Zehm refused to go away and continued to trail Gray until taking the race lead away on lap ten. Zehm hung on to take the feature win in the feature that went caution free, his second of the season in Boone. Gray finished runner-up, Charlie Brown driving Joel Huggin's second car finished third. Josh May was fourth and Joe Glick was fifth.
Colton Nelson took the early lead in the Elmquist Towing IMCA Sport Mods 18 lap feature event fending off Joey Young, Matt Ruf and Kaylin Lopez. The caution came out on lap four when Jessiah Taylor and Chance Titus spun in turns three and four. Nelson held tough but the caution came out again on lap seven when Garrett Nelson and Jake Sachau got together in turn three. Another caution after lap eight was scored when Billy Dyer, Curtis Veber and Blair Simmons in turn four. Nelson continued to lead until Lopez stole the lead away on lap ten. That swap of the lead came just before the final race caution came out when Hayden Hillgartner, Dyer, Taylor, Titus and Summer Anderson got together in turn one. Lopez led the final eight laps to go on and take his first win of the season in Boone. Nelson, Young, Timothy Warner, from Wisconsin and Braden Richards rounded out the top five.Next up was the D&E Outdoor Services IMCA Modifieds 25 lap feature event for $1,000 to win in memory of Tammy Stevens. Jeff Schroyer, originally from Marshalltown know Elkhorn, Nebraska led the first lap. Shortly after the caution came out when Robert Moore and Denny Pittman got together in turn four. Schroyer saw Johnathon Logue take the lead away on the restart and then Doug Smith take second away. Logue and Smith began to battle it out for the race lead with Logue holding him off. The caution came out on lap 12 for Moore spinning in turn four and then again on lap fifteen when Pittman slid off the top of turn one. Logue led until lap sixteen when Doug Smith pull a slide job to take the race lead away. Smith's lead was short lived as Dylan Thornton took the lead away on lap seventeen. Thornton pulled away and went on to take the feature win. Smith finished second, Tim Ward was third, Mike Van Genderen was fourth and Nick Roberts was fifth. Smith and Logue exchanged their displeasure in the infield following the feature.
Andrew Burg has been fighting gremlins in his car but seemed to have them figure out as he led the first seven laps of the Arnold Motor Supply IMCA Stock Cars 20 lap feature. "Bobcat" Johnathon Logue took the race lead away on lap eight from Logue. The only race caution came out on lap ten when Corey Piffer and Rowdee Van Genderen got together in turn one. Logue got a great restart and fend off Burg and Jay Schmidt. Logue went on to take his first win of the season in the Stock Car at Boone ahead of Troy Jerovetz, Schmidt, Devin Smith and Josh Daniels.
Jay Sidles led the first two laps of the Pickett Salvage IMCA Hobby Stocks 15 lap feature event, there was some great two and three wide battles up front. Nicholas Adams took the lead away on lap three, Josh Vancannon took it away on lap four. Seth Janssen grab the lead away on lap six and appeared to be heading on to the win until a caution came out on lap twelve for Rusty Bates in turn four. John Watson stole the lead away on the restart and went on to take his third win of the season in Boone. Eric Knutson finished second, Mike Smith was third, Janssen fell back to fourth and Solomon Bennett was fifth.
Final feature of the night was the 10 lap Cruisers feature event, five of the ten cars made the call for the feature after the rest of the field got tore up in the heat race. Nick Dewitt / Chris Harrington led the first lap before Kyler Hodnefield / Abe Ambrose took the lead away on lap two. Hodnefield / Ambrose went on to take the feature win. Max Allen / Shawn Allen finished second, Dewitt / Harrington was third, Jesse McCollough / Dustin Hanson was fourth and Kristina Wilson / Brant Peterson was fifth.
