Mitchell Takes Two Wins on Hawkeye Auto Salvage Night at Warren County

With Independence taking a Saturday night off because of the Buchanan County Fair it meant I had a Saturday night free to go racing somewhere, there was a lot of options as mother nature cooperated. So I said what better way to spend a night in Indy aka Indianola since the other Indee (Independence) was off.

I spend hot laps and heat races out on the dirt mound taking pictures which you can find on the Trackside Report by Foxman Facebook Page, Trackside Report by Foxman Facebook Page in a photo albums called Warren County Hawkeye Auto Salvage Night 7-9-22.

There was great all night long but the drivers had to handle the track as the racing surface added a little character. The first race went green at 6:30pm and the final checkered flag was displayed at 9:45pm on Hawkeye Auto Salvage Night. Brandan Long and his team are doing amazing job with the Warren County Speedway, I suggest you get out and support them if you can.

The one frustrating thing is that Dallas County Fairgrounds decided to schedule races on top of Warren County Speedway, Indianola had their schedule out long before Adel. To keep this sport from dying, tracks need to work together and not schedule on top of each other, do I think it hurt the car count a little, yes. Okay enough of my little rant, I just hope tracks can work together next year.

First feature of the night was the DeYarman Ford JR Front Wheel Drive feature event, originally scheduled for 10 laps but was cut short because of way too many cautions. Zachary Cleghorn jumped out to the race lead early fending off Michael Gardner. The caution first came out on lap four when Emberli VanClark and Julia Langille in turn four, Garnder came to a stop in turn one on the restart. Cleghorn continued to lead but the cautions came out again on lap six. First one on lap six for Carter Cleghorn and Joe Tarter in turn four, then Carter Cleghorn in turn two on the restart after getting spun out. The third restart saw Aubrey McKasson come to a stop in turn four after contact from Katelynn Watts. This one forced the race to end under a yellow checkered giving the win Zachary Cleghorn. McKasson was given back second place, Watts was black flagged. Julia Langille finished third, Kyle Charlson in fourth and Joe Tarter was fifth.

TruBank Cruisers 12 lap feature event was up next and it was James Tarter / Britton Brickman grabbing the early lead but husband and wife team Chris Mitchell / Shelbie Mitchell took the race lead away on lap four. Mitchell / Mitchell lead the remaining laps to take the feature win ahead of Jason Collins / Clay Collins, Tarter / Brickman, Kevin Jones / Robert Jones and Blake Henry / Rachelle Henry.

Tim Young led the first lap of the 20 lap Midwest Micro Series Micro Sprints presented by Gregg Young Chevrolet fending of Jaden Alexander. Luke Lane took the race lead away on lap two and was followed by Hunter Lane and Travis Rewerts. Luke Lane led until the caution came out on lap six when Alexander broke in turn two, then on the restart Joe Freidel spun in turn three. Luke Lane fended off Hunter Lane but the caution came out again on lap eight, Dallas Darnell slow on the front stretch. Hunter Lane managed to grab the lead away from Luke on lap eleven. Hunter Lane led until lap 14, before he exited to the infield with mechanical issues. Rewerts inherited the lead after he got by Luke Lane for second. The caution came out on lap 16 for Tim Young leaking oil on the racing surface. This forced a green-white-checkered finish as the time clock expired. Rewerts hung on to take his six feature win at Indy. Luke Lane finished second, Jackson Gray was third, Derrike Clark was fourth and Hunter Hanson was fifth.

Up next was the Phillips' Floors Truck 12 lap feature event. Matt Breeden grabbed the lead early and led the first nine laps. Cole Becker made several challenges on Breeden before finally taking over the race lead on lap ten. Becker went on to take his first feature win of the season. Breeden, Robby Dittmer, Clay Collins and Alex Catron rounded out the top five.

Chris Mitchell led all 12 laps of the Bussanmas Heating & Cooling Stock Figure 8 feature event. Dylan McKasson ran second before exiting because of mechanical issues so that gave second over to Brock Bush. Bush and Will Aldridge battled for second with Aldridge taking second away. For Mitchell it was his second win of the season, Aldridge finished second, Bush was third, Joe Grubbs was fourth and Seth Parker in fifth.

Only three Williams Machine Shop Open figure 8 cars checked in to take part of the 12 lap feature event. Casey McKasson wrestled the lead from David Burnell and Travis Shivers. McKasson led until lap six when he exited with mechanical issues giving the lead over to Burnell. The caution came out when Shivers stopped in turn one & two so that brought the end to the feature with Burnell taking his fifth feature win.

Jared Myers led the first two laps of the Hawkeye Auto Salvage Hobby Stocks 12 lap feature event before David Castellano took the lead away on lap three. Castellano held of the Myers and Jason Collins to take his fourth win of the season. Myers, Collins, BJ Charlson and Jesse Wood rounded out the top five.

Final feature of the night was the Front Wheel Drive 12 lap feature. Casey Trucker grabbed the early lead fending of Terry Bickford and Autumn Turner. The only caution came out on lap three when Michael Gardner was forced to exit because of leaking fuel. Tucker hung on to the lead until Bickford took it away on lap six. Bickford led the remaining laps to take his fourth win of the season. Tucker came home second, Turner in third, Alex VanClark in fourth and Daniel Claytong was fifth.
