𝐂𝐡𝐚𝐧𝐝𝐥𝐞𝐫 𝐁𝐮𝐳𝐳𝐞𝐬 𝐭𝐨 𝐖𝐢𝐧 𝐢𝐧 𝐁𝐮𝐦𝐛𝐥𝐞 𝐁𝐞𝐞 𝐍𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥𝐬 𝐢𝐧 𝐁𝐨𝐨𝐧𝐞

Let's start by saying I have been the public address announcer for Marshalltown High School softball games this season, so when I heard the Bobcats were hosting their annual Softball Classic and I didn't have to announce, I said, "I feel like I have to still go and support them in their games." Friday afternoon, I did that, taking in their first game, and then ran the scoreboard for the second game not featuring the Cats before watching the first inning of their second game, and then I had to head to the Marshalltown Speedway for work. On Saturday, though, they had games at 9:30a, 11:15a, and 1p, so I made the decision at about 9a that I would go take in all 3 games and then depart for the Boone Speedway after them. Well, by the time the races got over and back home, my day was 15 hours in total, but I think they appreciated that their PA announcer was supporting them even if he didn't have to go. I know they probably read this, so let's get on to the reason for this blog.

Saturday night at Iowa's Action Track, the Boone Speedway, was the Bumble Bee Nationals for IMCA Sport Compacts sponsored by Extreme Powder Coating; it was also the Farley's Whole Sale Smackdown for Modifieds and Stock Cars, along with being another Saturday Night Series weekly race night. Two hundred and ten cars signed in to tame the 1/3-mile dirt oval. The racing action was exciting from the drop of the first green flag at 6p until the final checkered flag at 11:05p.

The first feature of the night was the first of two IMCA Stock Car 20-lap feature events presented by Boone Moose Lodge 104. Devin Smith jumped out to the quick lead as Kyle Everts, Tyler Pickett and Mike Jansen were jockeying for position. First race caution came out on lap 11 when Mike Jansen and Matthew Meinecke got together in turn 1. Devin Smith fended off Tyler Pickett and Josh Daniels on the restart, but the caution came out again on lap 15 when Kevin Gyles rolled off the top of turn three. Devin Smith went on to capture win number four. David Smith worked his way from tenth to finish second. Josh Daniels was third, Michael Jaennette took fourth, and twenty-first place starter Hunter Smith was fifth.

Next up is the first of two Pickett Salvage IMCA Hobby Stock 15-lap features. Eric Stanton took full advantage of starting outside the front row by grabbing the top spot. Stanton pulled away until Braden Gifford moved into the runner-up spot and began to apply pressure. The only race caution came out on lap 12 when Eric Knutson, Kendal Madsen II, Daniel Pittman, Macon Robinson, and Nathan DeRagon were in turn three. Stanton held off Gifford on the restart to go on and capture win number one. Gifford finished second, Seth Butler took third, Wyatt Johnson was fourth, and Aaron Rudolph was fifth.

Normally the first feature of the night was the third feature, the IMCA STARS Mod Lites, presented by Stealth Racing. Garrison Anderson jumped out to an early lead as Jon Braathun, Bryan Zeh, Charlie Brown and Tracen Glick battled it out. The caution was waived on the lap when Colin Anderson spun in turn three and then on the restart when Glick and Garrett Barber got together in turn four. Garrison Anderson continued to lead the way until the next pair of cautions on lap nine. The first one on lap nine was for Dillion Bush spinning in turn two, and then Braathun spun on the restart, collecting Brandon Cox, Colby Oberembt, Scott Bailey and Travis Stensland. Eleventh-place starter Josh May got a great restart and took the lead away, but the caution came out one final time on lap ten when Bush and Mike Kennedy spun in turn one. May held on the final five laps to capture win number three at Boone. Bryan Zehm, Landon Elliott, Austin Grey and Grant Anderson rounded out the top five.

Jason Carney grabbed the early lead in the IMCA Northern Sport Mods 18-lap feature event presented by Elmquist Towing. The caution came out for the first time on lap one when Curtis Veber went off the top of turn three. Carney led lap two before Bradyn Gustin took the top spot away on lap three. Gustin would lead until the caution came out on lap seven for Dusty Masolini and Veber in turn four. Matt Avila took the race lead away on lap nine and was only slowed down by a caution on lap 11 when Chris Webb spun; Camdan Vincent and Dennis Pittman had nowhere to go. Avila led the final seven laps to go on and take win number two. Will Wolf, Mike Smith, Gustin, and Carney were second through fifth.

It was time for some buzzing, as it was now time for the 20-lap Bumble Bee Nationals feature for the IMCA Sport Compacts presented by Extreme Powder Coating. Mitchell Bunch led the first two laps before Marshalltown winner Mithell Bielenberg took the lead away. Bielenberg and Bunch ran one and two until Brad Chandler worked his way up from tenth. Chandler got by Bunch, but Bielenberg looked strong until lap traffic started getting heavy late. On lap 16, Chandler used two lap cars to pick off Bielenberg before pulling away to take the feature win in the caution-free event. Bielenberg finished second, Bunch fell back to third, Michael Gardner was fourth, and thirteenth-place starter Cristian Grady took fifth.

Paul Nagle jumped out to the race lead early in the IMCA Modifieds 20-lap feature presented by D&E Outdoor Services. The caution came out on lap two when Brian Eppert stopped in turn one. Nagle held off Jay Noteboom and Colton Nelson on the restart. The second caution came out on lap four when Robert Moore spun in turn one. Nagle looked to be the man to beat, but Todd Shute worked his way into second and reeled him in. The caution came out again on lap 15 when Connor Verbridge spun in turn four. The final caution was on lap 17 when Nagle spun in turn one, creating a parking lot. Shute inherited the lead and led the final three laps to get win number three in Boone. Trevor Fitz, Izac Mallicoat, Cory Sauerman, and Jake McBirnie rounded out the top five.

Time for the second IMCA Stock Cars 20-lap feature event, Johnathon Logue looked to keep his hot streak for the week going after winning at Algona Thursday and Motown Friday. Logue jumped out of the race lead at the drop of Logan Kelly's green flag, but the caution came out on lap three when Josh Vanwinkle spun in turn two. On the restart, Jimmy Gustin would jump the restart and grab the lead, or so he thought, but Logue was considered the leader. The next caution came out on lap five when Kane Matlock spun in turn four and Lincoln Vansickel drove off the backside of turn three. Logue held off Bob Daniels, Buck Schafroth, and Gustin on the restart this time and appeared to be heading for the win. Another caution came out on lap 12 when Jerry Williams rolled off the top of turns three and four. The final caution was on lap 14 when Logue pushed the limits too much and spun in turn three, forcing the yellow to come out as Bob Daniels spun in turn three. That gave the lead over to Schaforth. Schafroth and Gustin battled it out the final six laps, and they would get together on the final lap, allowing Jamsion MacDonald to sneak by to capture the win. Gustin took second, Schafroth was third, eleventh-place starter Doug Smith was in fourth, and Blake Lehman was fifth.

The final feature of the night was the second Pickett Auto Salvage IMCA Hobby Stocks 15-lap feature event. Brayson Siegle led the first six laps before Shane Butler took the top spot. Butler led until three to go when "The Burglar", Andrew Burg, took it away. Burg led the remaining laps to capture the win. Butler finished second, Siegle was third, Kael Koch was in fourth, and Michael Johnson Jr was in fifth.

Next week, Saturday, July 4th, Boone Speedway will have Saturday Night Racing Series Night #13 plus fireworks. IMCA Modifieds, Stock Cars, Sport Mods, Hobby Stocks, and Mod Lites all take to the track. Pits open at 3:30p, grandstands at 4:30p, hot laps at 5p, and racing at 6p. Pit passes are $30; grandstands are $15 for adults, $5 for youth (13-17), and free for kids 12 & under.

For more information about the Boone Speedway check out BooneSpeedway.com or call (515) 822-3553 or check out the Boone Speedway Facebook Page.

I bring the camera mostly to capture pictures of the Sport Compacts in attendance for the Bumble Bee Nationals and all them are posted on Trackside Report by Foxman Facebook Page in a photo album titled Boone Bumble Bee Nationals 6-27-26.
