When the season started, I was not sure how many times I would go racing on Sundays, much less how many times I would be road tripping to Sports Park Raceway in Fort Dodge. Three of four nights scheduled have been completed, and one night got rained out after a few races. I made the trip to Sports Park Raceway on all three nights that were completed. Also, when I checked MyRacePass after the races to see how I did with my fantasy picks, what would you know? For the second time this week, I was first in fantasy picks. This week, I made the tentative decision on Thursday that I would go back for racing action in large part because of being welcomed and appreciated by track promoter Jeff Frevert and operation manager Sarah Stewart when I am able to be there.

The car count may have been down on Sunday night for the Marsh Concrete Stock Car Special, but the racing action was still exciting and intense all night long. Kudos to Brandon Toftee, Frevert and the rest of the track crews for producing a great surface, but I am sure they will wonder what they could do differently to make it even better. Hot laps were at 5pm, racing followed, and the final checkered flag waved at 8:12pm. At total of sixty cars signed in to tame Sport Park Raceway presented by Fort Dodge Ford Lincoln Toyota.

Simple: if you have been on the fence about making the trip on a Sunday night to race at Sports Park Raceway, I say load that car up and get there. You will be amazing, and if you are concerned about when they will get over it, well, Jeff, Sarah and Brandon all take pride in getting the show done at a decent time.

The first feature of the night was the Matt's Tire Service IMCA Sport Compacts 10-lap feature event. Chris Wilson and Carson Hayes led the field to the green flag, but neither one of them led a lap as Rece Hayes blew by both on the opening lap. Rece Hayes went to the race lead and never looked back, going on to take win number two at Sport Park Raceway. Brother Carson Hayes finished second after fending off several challenges from Chase Roath, who finished third. Brooke Osler took fourth, and Charles Prime was fifth.

In the Culver's of Fort Dodge and Carroll 4.6L Crown Vics 10-lap feature event, Nick Hogan outwrestled Nick Sawdy for the early lead and fended off some challenges from Nate Hogan. Nick Hogan led all ten caution-free laps to be the third different winner this season at Sport Park. Nick Hogan came home second. Jacob Everts battled with Greg Dollens; Everts took third and Dollens fourth. Fifth place went to Jim Hogan.

Cameron Kennedy led the first six laps of the Pickett Salvage Vintage Cars 10-lap feature event. Kennedy was riding the top side; meanwhile, Rex Jansonius worked the bottom side. Jansonius took the lead on lap eight, but then he and Kennedy slipped up, leaving the opportunity for Brent McClendon to get by. Brent McClendon held on to capture win number one. Jansonius was second, Josh McClendon was third, and Kennedy fell back to fourth.

Before a lap was scored in the Pickett Salvage IMCA Hobby Stocks 15-lap feature, the caution came out when Seth Butler, Wade Gilliland, and Macon Robinson got together on the front stretch. After the field got restacked and got started, it was Ethan Dirks jumping out to the race's lead. Jade Lange followed Dirks to capture second place. The race saw two more cautions, one on lap six when Braden Gifford went off the front stretch with a flat tire and then on lap 11 when Drew Barglof and Max Pogeler spun in turn four, collecting Gilliland. Dirks remained tough and went on to capture the win, becoming the third different winner this season. Lange, twelfth-place starter Jeff Fink, fourteenth-place starter Macon Robinson, and thirteenth-place starter Brian Ashburn rounded out the top five.

Kamdyn Haggard had no issues leaving off where he finished two weeks ago at Sports Park Raceway as he jumped out to the lead early in the White Transfer & Storage IMCA Sport Mods 15-lap feature. Haggard checked out and cruised to win number two of the season. Yes, I can officially confirm Kam and his dad Dustin were both smiling after going back to back. Dustin West took second, Rocky Caudle took third, Matt Grall was fourth, and George Gilliland was fifth.

Andy Tiernan jumped out to the race lead in the United Plant Service IMCA Modifieds 15-lap feature event, fending off Chase Weimer and Jason Bass. Chaz Baca worked his way into second and set his sights on chasing down Tiernan and took the top spot away on lap seven. Baca pulled away and went on to take win number three at Sport Park. Bass, Tiernan, Weimer, and Ted Gould rounded out the finish.

The final feature of the night was the featured event, the Marsh Concrete IMCA Stock Cars B&B Chassis All-Star Invitational Qualifier for 20 laps. It was "The General" Troy Jerovetz jumping out to the race lead. Jerovetz fended off challenges from Ryan Roath and Cody Frerichs early. The first race caution came out when Frerichs lost power and came to a stop at the top of turns three and four. Jerovetz held off Roath and Hunter Smith on the restart and looked like he was determined to take the win, but one more caution came out on lap nine when Calvin Lange slid off the top of turn one. Smith got a great restart and got by Jerovetz on the restart and cruised away. Smith became the third different winner and pocketed $1,000 in the effort. Jerovetz hung on to finish second; Jarid Ratzke was third; Kyle Rose was fourth; and Tyler Pickett got as high as third before falling back to fifth.

Racing action is back again next week at the Sports Park Raceway presented by Fort Dodge Ford Lincoln and features the Culver's of Fort Dodge & Carroll 4.6L Crown Vics Special, paying $1,000 to win. IMCA Mod Lites are back for their second of five visits. IMCA-sanctioned Modifieds, Stock Cars, Sport Mods, Hobby Stocks, and Sport Compacts, plus the Vintage Cars, round out the card. Grandstands are $12 for adults, $10 for seniors/military/kids (7-12), and free for kids 6 and under. Pit passes are $35 for ages 14 & over and $25 for ages 13 & under. Pits open at 3p, grandstands at 4p, drivers meeting at 4:45p, hot laps at 5p, and racing to follow.

Other upcoming major events at Sports Park Raceway are the following: the White Transfer & Storage IMCA Northern Sport Mods will have a $1,000-to-win special + the rescheduled United Plant Services IMCA Modifieds Fast Shaft All-Star Invitational Qualifier on July 12th; the Pickett Salvage IMCA Hobby Stocks will feature a $1,000-to-win special on July 26th; and Kids Night, sponsored by Kemna Auto of Fort Dodge, will take place on August 2nd.
