A light rain shower came early in the afternoon but didn’t spoil the
Friday Night racing action at the Marshalltown Speedway during Central
Iowa Farm Store Night which also was taking part of the Central Iowa
Fair. There was great 3 and
4 wide racing all night long in heats and features.
Merv
Chandler would lead the IMCA Sport Compact feature from start to finish
for the 2nd week in a row and take his 9th feature win on Friday nights
at Marshalltown. Travis Losenicky was 2nd, Duayne Herb was 3rd, Neil
Nabholz was 4th and Josh Keller was 5th.
O’Reilly Auto Parts Mod
Lites feature would see Joel Huggins jump to the race lead but it was
Mike Morrill taking the lead on lap 2. Morrill would eventually chase
down by Josh May and May would lead on lap 13 but it was Morrill getting
back when May would slide up the hill. Morrill would take his 5th win
of the season at Marshalltown. May came home in 2nd with Dusty Masolini,
Joel Huggins and Randy Bryan rounding out the top 5.
The Big 8
Tyre Center IMCA SportMods feature it would be 14 year old Sam Wieben
leading the first 2 laps but Jake Strayer would make the move and take
the lead away on lap 3. Shortly after the caution
would come out for a couple of cars getting together in turn 3. When
the race resumed Strayer continue to lead until Racer Hulin made the
move to take the lead on lap 6. A lap later the caution came out for
Nick Giannetto in turn 4 but Hulin wouldn’t let it bother him as he
would go on and take his 2nd win of the season at Marshalltown. Strayer
was 2nd, Wieben was 3rd, Nick Roberts was 4th and Joel Rust was 5th.
In
Toby K’s Hideaway IMCA Hobby Stocks feature it was Garrett Eilander
taking the early lead before 9th place starter Scott Pippert would work
his way up to take the lead on lap 5 from Eilander. Then 2 laps later
the caution would fly for a car going off the top side of turn 3 and 4
after that the restart was waved off twice. When the race resumed it was
Scott Pippert leading the remaining laps to take his 2nd straight
feature win. Eric Larson was 2nd, Eilander was 3rd, Udelhoven was 4th
and Eric Knutson was 5th.
The Mike’s
Hard Lemonade IMCA Stock Cars would see the caution wave before a
single lap was completed once the track was clear and the line up
correct would try it again. It would be Trent Murphy taking the lead and
not looking back as he would lead all 18 laps to take the win.
Finishing behind Murphy was Steve Meyer, Damon Murty, Michael Jaennette
and Derek Reimer completing out the top 5.
The final feature of
the night was Meskwaki Bingo Casino Hotel IMCA Modifieds feature saw
David Brown lead the first lap but he would be passed by his son Kyle
Brown on lap 2. Kyle Brown would maintain the lead through the caution
lap 4 for Todd Conrad having mechanical issues and come to a stop on the
backstretch. Luke Wanninger would catch up and take the lead away on
lap 8 and lead the remaining laps to take his 2nd straight feature. Jon
Snyder would finish 2nd but also receive first place points because
Wanninger is running an IMCA crate test engine. Kyle Brown was
3rd, Jimmy Gustin was 4th and Ronn Lauritzen was 5th.
This
Sunday Afternoon the Go-Karts, Quads and Motorcycles will take to the
speedway for the Motor Madness at the Central Iowa Fair with racing
starting at 1 pm.
Next Friday Night will be Hogeland Auto Plaza
Kids Night and also $1,000 to win Modifieds and $500 to win Sport Mods
in a draw/redraw format but no track points will be awarded in those 2
classes also racing will be the Stock Cars, Hobby Stocks, Mod Lites and
Sport Compacts. Hot Laps at 7 pm and Racing to Follow at 7:30 pm.
