With
temperatures soaring near 100 degrees the speedway staff was determined
to go racing after getting rained out last Friday night. The racing
fans that braved the heat didn’t go home disappointed.
Merv
Chandler would lead the IMCA Sport Compact feature from start to finish
and take his 8th feature win on Friday nights. Craig Stepanek finishing
2nd, Neil Nabholz was 3rd and John Gill was 4th.
O’Reilly Auto
Parts Mod Lites feature would see Mike Morrill jump to the early lead
and not look back despite a caution on lap 5. Morrill would take the win
4th win of the season at Marshalltown. Josh May came home in
2nd with Mike Kennedy, Dusty Masolini and Eric Hendrickson rounding out
the top 5.
The Big 8 Tyre Center IMCA SportMods feature it would
be Travis Peterson leading lap 1. On lap 2 it was 14 year old Sam
Wieben taking the lead but just after 3 laps the caution would fly and
this would allow Gatlin Leytham to get by on the restart. Leytham then
would lose the lead to Nick Roberts. Roberts would have to deal with
Scott Davis after a caution on lap 14 and would hold off Davis all but
the last lap as Davis would get by Roberts and take the win. Joel Rust
was 3rd, Eric Flander was 4th and Jayme Duinink was 5th.
In Toby
K’s Hideaway IMCA Hobby Stocks feature it was Brice Udelhoven taking the
early lead which he would hold on too through a caution on lap 2.
Udelhoven would then have to deal with Donavon Nunnikhoven, Kevin Fee,
Eric Larson and Scott Pippert. Larson would make the pass on Udelhoven
on lap 6 and it appeared it was Larson’s but on
the last lap Pippert would sneak by and take the win. Larson settled
for 2nd, Fee was 3rd, Udelhoven was 4th and Nunnikhoven was 5th.
The
Mike’s Hard Lemonade IMCA Stock Cars would see Derek Reimer lead the
1st lap but it was Trent Murphy getting by on lap 2. Murphy would see
the yellow come out on lap 4 for a couple of cars getting together in
turn 1 and on the restart Murphy would have to battle with his younger
brother Michael. Michael Murphy would make the pass on his brother Trent
on lap 7 and hold off several challenges to take the win. Finishing
behind the Michael and Trent Murphy was Brian Irvine, Damon Murty and
Tracy Gienger.
The final feature of the night was Meskwaki Bingo
Casino Hotel IMCA Modifieds feature saw Cayden Carter lead the first 3
laps but then a couple of cautions on lap 3. On the restart, Carter
would be passed by Luke Wanninger. Wanninger would continue to lead
through the caution on lap 6 and go on and take
the win. Wanninger running an experimental crate engine so Jimmy
Gustin, who was 2nd will get first place points. Ronn Lauritzen was 3rd,
Cayden Carter was 4th and Josh Truman was 5th.
Next Friday Night
will be Central Iowa Farm Store Night at the Races which will also be
the Central Iowa Fair Races. Hot Laps at 7:05 pm and racing at 7:30 pm.
Then
on Sunday Afternoon the Go-Karts, Quads and Motorcycles will take to
the speedway for the Motor Madness at the Central Iowa Fair with racing
starting at 1 pm.
