Pinkerton Takes Stock Car Shootout Win at Osky

With temperatures soaring close to a 100 degrees it would set up for a great final night of the World Products Stock Car Shootout Series at the Mahaska County Monster. It was the 4th of July but official 82 cars signed in to do battle on the nation's holiday and with some big money on the line in all classes and the national anthem was sang by 3 year old Addison Vanderbeek.

First feature of the night was the Autocrafters/Whalen Racing IMCA Sport Compacts 8 lap feature. Merv Chandler would lead all 8 laps in root to his 8th win of the season at Southern Iowa Speedway. Bill Whalen Jr., Larry Hopkins, Mike Nehring and Duayne Herb would round out the top 5.

Next up in the Tracy Elevator IMCA Hobby Stock feature it was Craig Brown jumped out to the early lead and appeared the win but Shannon Anderson had worked his way up to 2nd on lap 8 and started to chase down Brown. Anderson would catch Brown and make the pass for the lead on lap 13. Anderson would lead the remaining laps to take his 6th of the season at SIS. Brown would settle for 2nd, Dustin Griffiths was 3rd, Mike Hughes was 4th and Kevin Fee was 5th.

In the Pyramid Graphics and Sports IMCA SportMod feature it was Carter Vandenberg taking the lead but a caution on lap 2 that would result in a red flag when Jack Housley would get upside down in turn 4 and he would collect Cody Hillgartner and Randy Krampe, Housley would be okay but his car wouldn't look so good. When the race resumed Vandenberg would have do deal with Curtis Vandwerwal and Tony Johnson. Vanderwal would grab the lead away from Vandenberg meanwhile Sobbing would get by Johnson for 3rd. Sobbing woulg get by Vandenberg for nd on the next lap meanwhile Bryan Weyer would get by Johnson for 4th. Sobbing set his sights on trying to chase down Vanderwal and would do so and take over the lead on lap 12 and lead the remaining laps to take his 5th win of the season at Osky. Vanderwal, Weyer, Vandenberg and Jim Gillenwater completed out the top 5.

Carter's Manufacturing IMCA Stock Cars 25 lap Budweiser Stock Car Shootout feature was up next. Zack Vanderbeek would start on the outside front row and lead all the laps. Vanderbeek would win by a full straightaway over Brad Pinkerton, who came across the line in 2nd but in post-race tech inspection, Vanderbeek was disqualified for an illegal frame giving the win over to Brad Pinkerton. Jay Schmidt, Matt Greiner, Jeff Anderson and Larry Karcz Jr. would round out the top 5. Anderson would be the overall Stock Car Shootout Champion.

The final feature was the Musco Lighting IMCA Modified feature and it was Cayden Cart leading the first 3 laps before the Hartford Hustler Jacob Murray would get by and take the lead. Murray would go on and take his 5th win of the season at Osky. Carter finished 2nd, Richie Gustin was 3rd, David Murray was 4th and Scott Dickey was 5th.

Racing action continues at the Southern Iowa Speedway next week with Monte Motor Parts Dave Lowry Memorial Race and Oskaloosa Night. The following week ther Southern Iowa Fair is going on and there will be 2 racing events awarding track points on Tuesday July 17th when the JR Motorsports Hawkeye Dirt Tour appear at the Speedway and the following night will be the Southern Iowa Fair Special. Hot Laps at 7 pm and Racing at 7:30 pm every Wednesday Night.
